1 T he Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the South, heard that Israel came by the way of Atharim. He fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.

Cuando el cananeo, el rey de Arad, que habitaba en el Neguev, oyó que venía Israel por el camino de Atarim, peleó contra Israel y le tomó algunos prisioneros.

2 I srael vowed a vow to Yahweh, and said, “If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.”

Entonces Israel hizo este voto a Jehová: «Si en efecto entregas este pueblo en mis manos, yo destruiré sus ciudades.»

3 Y ahweh listened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities. The name of the place was called Hormah.

Jehová escuchó la voz de Israel y le entregó al cananeo, y los destruyó a ellos y a sus ciudades. Por eso recibió aquel lugar el nombre de Horma. La serpiente de bronce

4 T hey traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom The soul of the people was very discouraged because of the journey.

Después partieron del monte Hor, camino del Mar Rojo, para rodear la tierra de Edom. Pero se desanimó el pueblo por el camino

5 T he people spoke against God, and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loathes this light bread.”

y comenzó a hablar contra Dios y contra Moisés: «¿Por qué nos hiciste subir de Egipto para que muramos en este desierto? Pues no hay pan ni agua, y estamos cansados de este pan tan liviano.»

6 Y ahweh sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people. Many people of Israel died.

Entonces Jehová envió contra el pueblo unas serpientes venenosas que mordían al pueblo, y así murió mucha gente de Israel.

7 T he people came to Moses, and said, “We have sinned, because we have spoken against Yahweh, and against you. Pray to Yahweh, that he take away the serpents from us.” Moses prayed for the people.

Entonces el pueblo acudió a Moisés y le dijo: «Hemos pecado por haber hablado contra Jehová y contra ti; ruega a Jehová para que aleje de nosotros estas serpientes.» Moisés oró por el pueblo,

8 Y ahweh said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole. It shall happen, that everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.”

y Jehová le respondió: «Hazte una serpiente ardiente y ponla sobre una asta; cualquiera que sea mordido y la mire, vivirá.»

9 M oses made a serpent of brass, and set it on the pole. If a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked at the serpent of brass, he lived.

Hizo Moisés una serpiente de bronce, y la puso sobre una asta. Y cuando alguna serpiente mordía a alguien, este miraba a la serpiente de bronce y vivía. Los israelitas rodean la tierra de Moab

10 T he children of Israel traveled, and encamped in Oboth.

Después partieron los hijos de Israel y acamparon en Obot.

11 T hey traveled from Oboth, and encamped at Iyeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrise.

Luego partieron de Obot y acamparon en Ije-abarim, en el desierto que está enfrente de Moab, hacia el nacimiento del sol.

12 F rom there they traveled, and encamped in the valley of Zered.

Partieron de allí y acamparon en el valle de Zered.

13 F rom there they traveled, and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness, that comes out of the border of the Amorites: for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.

De allí partieron y acamparon al otro lado del Arnón, que está en el desierto y que sale del territorio del amorreo, pues el Arnón sirve de límite entre Moab y el amorreo.

14 T herefore it is said in the book of the Wars of Yahweh, “Vaheb in Suphah, the valleys of the Arnon,

Por eso se dice en el libro de las batallas de Jehová: «Lo que hizo en el Mar Rojo y en los arroyos del Arnón;

15 t he slope of the valleys that incline toward the dwelling of Ar, leans on the border of Moab.”

y a la corriente de los arroyos que va a parar en Ar y descansa en el límite de Moab.»

16 F rom there they traveled to Beer; that is the well of which Yahweh said to Moses, “Gather the people together, and I will give them water.”

De allí pasaron a Beer: éste es el pozo del cual Jehová dijo a Moisés: «Reúne al pueblo, y les daré agua.»

17 T hen Israel sang this song: “Spring up, well! Sing to it,

Entonces, entonó Israel este cántico: «¡Sube, pozo! ¡A él cantad!

18 t he well, which the princes dug, which the nobles of the people dug, with the scepter, and with their poles.” From the wilderness they traveled to Mattanah;

Pozo que cavaron los señores, que cavaron los príncipes del pueblo, con sus cetros, con sus bastones.» Del desierto fueron a Matana,

19 a nd from Mattanah to Nahaliel; and from Nahaliel to Bamoth;

de Matana a Nahaliel, de Nahaliel a Bamot,

20 a nd from Bamoth to the valley that is in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looks down on the desert.

y de Bamot al valle que está en los campos de Moab, y a la cumbre del Pisga, que mira hacia el desierto. Derrota de Sehón, rey amorreo

21 I srael sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,

Entonces envió Israel embajadores a Sehón, rey de los amorreos, con este mensaje:

22 “ Let me pass through your land. We will not turn aside into field, or into vineyard. We will not drink of the water of the wells. We will go by the king’s highway, until we have passed your border.”

«Pasaré por tu tierra; no nos iremos por los sembrados ni por las viñas, ni beberemos las aguas de los pozos. Por el camino real iremos, hasta que atravesemos tu territorio.»

23 S ihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border, but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz. He fought against Israel.

Pero Sehón no dejó pasar a Israel por su territorio, sino que juntó Sehón todo su pueblo y salió contra Israel en el desierto, llegó a Jahaza y allí peleó contra Israel.

24 I srael struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.

Israel lo hirió a filo de espada y se apoderó de su tierra desde el Arnón hasta el Jaboc, hasta los límites de los hijos de Amón, porque la frontera de los hijos de Amón estaba fortificada.

25 I srael took all these cities. Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its towns.

Tomó Israel todas estas ciudades, y habitó Israel en todas las ciudades del amorreo, en Hesbón y en todas sus aldeas.

26 F or Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even to the Arnon.

Porque Hesbón era la ciudad de Sehón, rey de los amorreos, el cual había estado en guerra antes con el rey de Moab, y le había quitado todo su territorio hasta el Arnón.

27 T herefore those who speak in proverbs say, “Come to Heshbon. Let the city of Sihon be built and established;

Por eso dicen los proverbistas: «¡Venid a Hesbón! ¡Que sea reedificada! Que sea restaurada la ciudad de Sehón.

28 f or a fire has gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It has devoured Ar of Moab, The lords of the high places of the Arnon.

Porque fuego ha salido de Hesbón, y llama de la ciudad de Sehón, que consumió a Ar de Moab, a los señores de las alturas del Arnón.

29 W oe to you, Moab! You are undone, people of Chemosh! He has given his sons as fugitives, and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites.

¡Ay de ti, Moab! ¡Pereciste, pueblo de Quemos! Fueron puestos en fuga sus hijos, y sus hijas en cautividad, por Sehón, rey de los amorreos.

30 W e have shot at them. Heshbon has perished even to Dibon. We have laid waste even to Nophah, Which reaches to Medeba.”

Mas devastamos su reino; pereció Hesbón hasta Dibón, y destruimos hasta Nofa y Medeba.» Israel derrota a Og, rey de Basán

31 T hus Israel lived in the land of the Amorites.

Así habitó Israel en la tierra del amorreo.

32 M oses sent to spy out Jazer. They took its towns, and drove out the Amorites who were there.

También envió Moisés a reconocer a Jazer; y tomaron sus aldeas y echaron al amorreo que estaba allí.

33 T hey turned and went up by the way of Bashan. Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.

Después volvieron y subieron camino de Basán. Salió contra ellos Og, rey de Basán, junto con toda su gente, para pelear en Edrei.

34 Y ahweh said to Moses, “Don’t fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, with all his people, and his land. You shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.”

Entonces Jehová dijo a Moisés: «No le tengas miedo, porque en tus manos lo he entregado, a él con todo su pueblo y su tierra. Harás con él como hiciste con Sehón, rey de los amorreos, que habitaba en Hesbón.»

35 S o they struck him, with his sons and all his people, until there were no survivors; and they possessed his land.

Así lo hirieron a él, a sus hijos y a toda su gente, sin que quedara uno con vida, y se apoderaron de su tierra.
