1 T hen all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, came near,

Vinieron todos los capitanes de la gente de guerra, junto con Johanán hijo de Carea, Jezanías hijo de Osaías y todo el pueblo, desde el menor hasta el mayor,

2 a nd said to Jeremiah the prophet, Please let our supplication be presented before you, and pray for us to Yahweh your God, even for all this remnant; for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes do see us:

y dijeron al profeta Jeremías: —Acepta ahora nuestra súplica delante de ti y ruega por nosotros a Jehová, tu Dios, por todo este resto (pues de muchos que éramos hemos quedado unos pocos, como ya ves por tus propios ojos),

3 t hat Yahweh your God may show us the way in which we should walk, and the thing that we should do.

para que Jehová, tu Dios, nos indique el camino por donde debemos ir y lo que debemos hacer.

4 T hen Jeremiah the prophet said to them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray to Yahweh your God according to your words; and it shall happen that whatever thing Yahweh shall answer you, I will declare it to you; I will keep nothing back from you.

El profeta Jeremías les dijo: —Os he oído. Y he aquí que voy a rogar a Jehová, vuestro Dios, como habéis dicho, y todo lo que Jehová os responda, os lo haré saber. No os ocultaré palabra alguna.

5 T hen they said to Jeremiah, Yahweh be a true and faithful witness among us, if we don’t do according to all the word with which Yahweh your God shall send you to us.

Ellos dijeron a Jeremías: —Jehová sea entre nosotros testigo de la verdad y de la lealtad, si no hacemos conforme a todo aquello para lo cual Jehová, tu Dios, te envíe a nosotros.

6 W hether it is good, or whether it is bad, we will obey the voice of Yahweh our God, to whom we send you; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of Yahweh our God.

Sea bueno, sea malo, a la voz de Jehová, nuestro Dios, al cual te enviamos, obedeceremos, para que, obedeciendo a la voz de Jehová, nuestro Dios, nos vaya bien.

7 A fter ten days, Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah.

Aconteció que al cabo de diez días vino palabra de Jehová a Jeremías.

8 T hen called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

Y llamó a Johanán hijo de Carea y a todos los capitanes de la gente de guerra que con él estaban, y a todo el pueblo, desde el menor hasta el mayor,

9 a nd said to them, Yahweh, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before him, says:

y les dijo: «Así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel, ante quien me enviasteis para presentar vuestros ruegos en su presencia:

10 I f you will still live in this land, then I will build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I grieve over the distress that I have brought on you.

Si permanecéis quietos en esta tierra, os edificaré y no os destruiré; os plantaré y no os arrancaré, porque estoy arrepentido del mal que os he hecho.

11 D on’t be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid; don’t be afraid of him, says Yahweh: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

No temáis de la presencia del rey de Babilonia, al cual tenéis miedo; no temáis de su presencia, ha dicho Jehová, porque con vosotros estoy yo para salvaros y libraros de su mano.

12 I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy on you, and cause you to return to your own land.

Tendré compasión de vosotros, y él se compadecerá de vosotros y os hará regresar a vuestra tierra.

13 B ut if you say, We will not dwell in this land; so that you don’t obey Yahweh your God’s voice,

Pero si decís: “No habitaremos en esta tierra”, desobedeciendo así la voz de Jehová, vuestro Dios,

14 s aying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:

y afirmando: “No, sino que entraremos en la tierra de Egipto, en la cual no veremos guerra, ni oiremos sonido de trompeta, ni padeceremos hambre, y allá habitaremos”,

15 n ow therefore hear Yahweh’s word, O remnant of Judah: Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, If you indeed set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to live there;

pues, por eso, oíd la palabra de Jehová, resto de Judá, porque así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Si vosotros volvéis vuestros rostros para entrar en Egipto, y entráis para habitar allá,

16 t hen it shall happen, that the sword, which you fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, about which you are afraid, shall follow close behind you there in Egypt; and there you shall die.

sucederá que la espada que teméis os alcanzará allí, en la tierra de Egipto, y el hambre que os asusta os perseguirá allá en Egipto, y allí moriréis.

17 S o shall it be with all the men who set their faces to go into Egypt to live there: they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring on them.

Todos los hombres que vuelvan su rostro para entrar en Egipto y habitar allí, morirán a espada, de hambre y de peste; no habrá de ellos quien quede vivo ni quien escape del mal que yo traeré sobre ellos.

18 F or Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: As my anger and my wrath has been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my wrath be poured out on you, when you shall enter into Egypt; and you shall be an object of horror, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and you shall see this place no more.

»Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Como se derramó mi enojo y mi ira sobre los habitantes de Jerusalén, así se derramará mi ira sobre vosotros cuando entréis en Egipto; y seréis objeto de aversión, de espanto, de maldición y de afrenta; y no veréis más este lugar.

19 Y ahweh has spoken concerning you, remnant of Judah, Don’t you go into Egypt: know certainly that I have testified to you today.

Jehová os dijo a vosotros, resto de Judá: No vayáis a Egipto. Sabed ciertamente que os lo advierto hoy.

20 F or you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me to Yahweh your God, saying, Pray for us to Yahweh our God; and according to all that Yahweh our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it:

¿Por qué hicisteis errar vuestras almas? Pues vosotros me enviasteis ante Jehová, vuestro Dios, diciendo: “Ruega por nosotros a Jehová, nuestro Dios, y haznos saber todas las cosas que diga Jehová, nuestro Dios, y lo haremos.”

21 a nd I have declared it to you today; but you have not obeyed Yahweh your God’s voice in anything for which he has sent me to you.

Esto os lo he declarado hoy, pero no habéis obedecido a la voz de Jehová, vuestro Dios, ni a ninguna de las cosas por las cuales me envió a vosotros.

22 N ow therefore know certainly that you shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place where you desire to go to live there.

Ahora, pues, sabed de cierto que moriréis a espada, de hambre y de peste en el lugar donde deseasteis entrar para habitar allí.»
