1 E n la tierra todos tenían entonces una sola lengua y unas mismas palabras,

And the whole earth is of one pronunciation, and of the same words,

2 p ero sucedió que, cuando salieron de oriente, hallaron una llanura en la tierra de Sinar y se establecieron allí.

and it cometh to pass, in their journeying from the east, that they find a valley in the land of Shinar, and dwell there;

3 Y se dijeron unos a otros: «Vamos a hacer ladrillos y a cocerlos en el fuego.» Y los ladrillos les sirvieron como piedras, y el asfalto les sirvió de mezcla,

and they say each one to his neighbour, `Give help, let us make bricks, and burn thoroughly:' and the brick is to them for stone, and the bitumen hath been to them for mortar.

4 y dijeron: «Vamos a edificar una ciudad, y una torre cuya cúspide llegue hasta el cielo. Hagámonos de renombre, por si llegamos a esparcirnos por toda la tierra.»

And they say, `Give help, let us build for ourselves a city and tower, and its head in the heavens, and make for ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of all the earth.'

5 P ero el Señor descendió para ver la ciudad y la torre que los hijos de los hombres estaban edificando,

And Jehovah cometh down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men have builded;

6 y dijo: «Esta gente es una sola, y todos ellos tienen un solo lenguaje. Ya han comenzado su obra, y ahora nada los hará desistir de lo que han pensado hacer.

and Jehovah saith, `Lo, the people one, and one pronunciation to them all, and this it hath dreamed of doing; and now, nothing is restrained from them of that which they have purposed to do.

7 A sí que descendamos allá y confundamos su lengua, para que ninguno entienda la lengua de su compañero.»

Give help, let us go down, and mingle there their pronunciation, so that a man doth not understand the pronunciation of his companion.'

8 A sí fue como el Señor los esparció por toda la tierra, y como dejaron de edificar la ciudad.

And Jehovah doth scatter them from thence over the face of all the earth, and they cease to build the city;

9 P or eso la ciudad se llamó Babel, porque allí el Señor confundió el lenguaje de toda la tierra, y desde allí los esparció por toda la superficie de la tierra. Los descendientes de Sem

therefore hath called its name Babel, for there hath Jehovah mingled the pronunciation of all the earth, and from thence hath Jehovah scattered them over the face of all the earth.

10 É stos son los descendientes de Sem: Dos años después del diluvio, Sem engendró a Arfaxad. Tenía entonces cien años de edad.

These births of Shem: Shem a son of an hundred years, and begetteth Arphaxad two years after the deluge.

11 D espués de engendrar a Arfaxad, Sem vivió quinientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Shem liveth after his begetting Arphaxad five hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

12 A rfaxad vivió treinta y cinco años, y engendró a Selaj.

And Arphaxad hath lived five and thirty years, and begetteth Salah.

13 D espués de engendrar a Selaj, Arfaxad vivió cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Arphaxad liveth after his begetting Salah four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

14 S elaj vivió treinta años, y engendró a Éber.

And Salah hath lived thirty years, and begetteth Eber.

15 D espués de engendrar a Éber, Selaj vivió cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Salah liveth after his begetting Eber four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

16 É ber vivió treinta y cuatro años, y engendró a Peleg.

And Eber liveth four and thirty years, and begetteth Peleg.

17 D espués de engendrar a Peleg, Éber vivió cuatrocientos treinta años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Eber liveth after his begetting Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

18 P eleg vivió treinta años, y engendró a Reu.

And Peleg liveth thirty years, and begetteth Reu.

19 D espués de engendrar a Reu, Peleg vivió doscientos nueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Peleg liveth after his begetting Reu two hundred and nine years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

20 R eu vivió treinta y dos años, y engendró a Serug.

And Reu liveth two and thirty years, and begetteth Serug.

21 D espués de engendrar a Serug, Reu vivió doscientos siete años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Reu liveth after his begetting Serug two hundred and seven years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

22 S erug vivió treinta años, y engendró a Najor.

And Serug liveth thirty years, and begetteth Nahor.

23 D espués de engendrar a Najor, Serug vivió doscientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Serug liveth after his begetting Nahor two hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

24 N ajor vivió veintinueve años, y engendró a Téraj.

And Nahor liveth nine and twenty years, and begetteth Terah.

25 D espués de engendrar a Téraj, Najor vivió ciento diecinueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Nahor liveth after his begetting Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

26 T éraj vivió setenta años, y engendró a Abrán, a Najor y a Harán. Los descendientes de Téraj

And Terah liveth seventy years, and begetteth Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

27 É stos son los descendientes de Téraj: Téraj engendró a Abrán, a Najor y a Harán; y Harán engendró a Lot.

And these births of Terah: Terah hath begotten Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran hath begotten Lot;

28 H arán murió antes que su padre Téraj, en Ur de los caldeos, que era la tierra donde nació.

and Haran dieth in the presence of Terah his father, in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees.

29 A brán y Najor tomaron mujeres para ellos. La mujer de Abrán se llamaba Saraí, y la mujer de Najor se llamaba Milca, que era hija de Harán, el padre de Milca y de Isca.

And Abram and Nahor take to themselves wives; the name of Abram's wife Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife Milcah, daughter of Haran, father of Milcah, and father of Iscah.

30 P ero Saraí era estéril; no tenía ningún hijo.

And Sarai is barren -- she hath no child.

31 Y Téraj tomó a su hijo Abrán y a su nuera Saraí, y a su nieto Lot, hijo de Harán, y salió con ellos de Ur de los caldeos para ir a la tierra de Canaán, pero cuando llegaron a Jarán se quedaron allí.

And Terah taketh Abram his son, and Lot, son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, wife of Abram his son, and they go out with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go towards the land of Canaan; and they come unto Charan, and dwell there.

32 Y fueron los días de Téraj doscientos cinco años; y murió Téraj en Jarán.

And the days of Terah are two hundred and five years, and Terah dieth in Charan.
