Words of Lemuel a king, a declaration that his mother taught him:

2 ¿ Qué puedo decirte, hijo mío? ¿Qué puedo decirte, hijo de mis entrañas? ¿Qué puedo decirte, respuesta a mis oraciones?

`What, my son? and what, son of my womb? And what, son of my vows?

3 Q ue no entregues tu vigor a las mujeres, ni vayas por caminos que destruyen a los reyes.

Give not to women thy strength, And thy ways to wiping away of kings.

4 L emuel, hijo mío, no está bien que los reyes beban vino, ni que los príncipes beban sidra;

Not for kings, O Lemuel, Not for kings, to drink wine, And for princes a desire of strong drink.

5 n o sea que por beber se olviden de la ley, y tuerzan el derecho de todos los afligidos.

Lest he drink, and forget the decree, And change the judgment of any of the sons of affliction.

6 S ea la sidra para el que desfallece, y el vino para los de ánimo amargado.

Give strong drink to the perishing, And wine to the bitter in soul,

7 ¡ Que beban y se olviden de sus carencias! ¡Que no se acuerden más de su miseria!

He drinketh, and forgetteth his poverty, And his misery he remembereth not again.

8 H abla en lugar de los que no pueden hablar; ¡defiende a todos los desvalidos!

Open thy mouth for the dumb, For the right of all sons of change.

9 H abla en su lugar, y hazles justicia; ¡defiende a los pobres y menesterosos! Elogio a la esposa ejemplar

Open thy mouth, judge righteously, Both the cause of the poor and needy!'

10 M ujer ejemplar, ¿quién dará con ella? Su valor excede al de las piedras preciosas.

A woman of worth who doth find? Yea, far above rubies her price.

11 S u esposo confía en ella de todo corazón, y por ella no carece de ganancias.

The heart of her husband hath trusted in her, And spoil he lacketh not.

12 S iempre lo trata bien, nunca mal, todos los días de su vida.

She hath done him good, and not evil, All days of her life.

13 S ale en busca de lana y de lino, y afanosa los trabaja con sus manos.

She hath sought wool and flax, And with delight she worketh her hands.

14 S e asemeja a una nave de mercaderes, que de muy lejos trae sus provisiones.

She hath been as ships of the merchant, From afar she bringeth in her bread.

15 A un durante la noche se levanta para dar de comer a su familia y asignar a las criadas sus deberes.

Yea, she riseth while yet night, And giveth food to her household, And a portion to her damsels.

16 P ondera el valor de un terreno, y lo compra, y con lo que gana planta un viñedo.

She hath considered a field, and taketh it, From the fruit of her hands she hath planted a vineyard.

17 S aca fuerzas de flaqueza, y con ahínco se dispone a trabajar.

She hath girded with might her loins, And doth strengthen her arms.

18 E stá atenta a la buena marcha de su negocio, y por la noche mantiene su lámpara encendida.

She hath perceived when her merchandise good, Her lamp is not extinguished in the night.

19 S abe cómo manejar el huso, y no le es ajeno manejar la rueca.

Her hands she hath sent forth on a spindle, And her hands have held a distaff.

20 S abe ayudar a los pobres, y tender la mano a los menesterosos.

Her hand she hath spread forth to the poor, Yea, her hands she sent forth to the needy.

21 C uando nieva, no teme por su familia, pues todos ellos visten ropas dobles.

She is not afraid of her household from snow, For all her household are clothed scarlet.

22 E lla misma se hace tapices, y se viste de lino fino y de púrpura.

Ornamental coverings she hath made for herself, Silk and purple her clothing.

23 S u esposo es bien conocido en la ciudad, y es parte del consejo local de ancianos.

Known in the gates is her husband, In his sitting with elders of the land.

24 L as telas que hace, las vende, y provee a los comerciantes con cinturones.

Linen garments she hath made, and selleth, And a girdle she hath given to the merchant.

25 S e reviste de fuerza y de honra, y no le preocupa lo que pueda venir.

Strength and honour her clothing, And she rejoiceth at a latter day.

26 H abla siempre con sabiduría, y su lengua se rige por la ley del amor.

Her mouth she hath opened in wisdom, And the law of kindness on her tongue.

27 S iempre atenta a la marcha de su hogar, nunca come un pan que no se haya ganado.

She watching the ways of her household, And bread of sloth she eateth not.

28 S us hijos se levantan y la llaman dichosa; también su esposo la congratula:

Her sons have risen up, and pronounce her happy, Her husband, and he praiseth her,

29 « Muchas mujeres han hecho el bien, pero tú las sobrepasas a todas.»

`Many the daughters who have done worthily, Thou hast gone up above them all.'

30 L a belleza es engañosa, y hueca la hermosura, pero la mujer que teme al Señor será alabada.

The grace false, and the beauty vain, A woman fearing Jehovah, she may boast herself.

31 ¡ Reconózcase lo que ha hecho con sus manos! ¡Sea alabada ante todos por sus logros!

Give ye to her of the fruit of her hands, And her works do praise her in the gates!
