1 C uando Atalía, la madre de Ocozías, vio muerto a su hijo, se dispuso a poner fin a la familia real.

And Athaliah mother of Ahaziah, and she hath seen that her son dead, and she riseth, and destroyeth all the seed of the kingdom;

2 P ero Yoseba, que era hija del rey Jorán y hermana de Ocozías, se llevó a Joás hijo de Ocozías y, sin que nadie la viera, lo escondió de Atalía en una alcoba, junto con su nodriza. Así lo libró de que lo mataran junto con los otros hijos del rey.

and Jehosheba daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, taketh Joash son of Ahaziah, and stealeth him out of the midst of the sons of the king who are put to death, him and his nurse, in the inner part of the bed-chambers, and they hide him from the presence of Athaliah, and he hath not been put to death,

3 Y Ocozías estuvo escondido seis años en el templo del Señor, junto con su nodriza, mientras Atalía era la reina del país.

and he is with her, in the house of Jehovah, hiding himself, six years, and Athaliah is reigning over the land.

4 P ero en el séptimo año Joyadá convocó a los jefes de centenas y a los capitanes, y a la gente de la guardia, y los llevó al templo del Señor, donde bajo juramento hizo alianza con ellos, después de lo cual les mostró al hijo del rey

And in the seventh year hath Jehoiada sent and taketh the heads of the hundreds, of the executioners and of the runners, and bringeth them in unto him, to the house of Jehovah, and maketh with them a covenant, and causeth them to swear in the house of Jehovah, and sheweth them the son of the king,

5 y les ordenó: «Ustedes van a hacer lo siguiente: en el día de reposo una tercera parte de ustedes tendrá a su cargo la vigilancia del palacio del rey.

and commandeth them, saying, `This the thing that ye do; The third of you going in on the sabbath, and keepers of the charge of the house of the king,

6 O tra tercera parte se apostará a la entrada de Shur, y la otra tercera parte se apostará a la entrada del postigo de la guardia. Así cuidarán de que el palacio no sea allanado.

and the third at the gate of Sur, and the third at the gate behind the runners, and ye have kept the charge of the house pulled down;

7 L as dos terceras partes de ustedes que están libres el día de reposo tendrán a su cargo la vigilancia del templo del Señor y del rey.

and two parts of you, all going out on the sabbath -- they have kept the charge of the house of Jehovah about the king,

8 E starán pendientes del rey por todos los flancos, cada uno con sus armas en la mano. Al que se acerque demasiado, mátenlo. Ustedes deberán vigilar cada paso del rey.»

and ye have compassed the king round about, each with his weapons in his hand, and he who is coming unto the ranges is put to death; and be ye with the king in his going out and in his coming in.'

9 L os jefes de centenas se reunieron con el sacerdote Joyadá e hicieron todo lo que el sacerdote Joyadá les ordenó; cada uno de ellos reunió a su gente, es decir, tanto a los que estaban de servicio en día de reposo como a los que estaban libres en día de reposo.

And the heads of the hundreds do according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded, and take each his men going in on the sabbath, with those going out on the sabbath, and come in unto Jehoiada the priest,

10 E l sacerdote entregó a los jefes de centenas las lanzas y los escudos que habían sido del rey David, y que estaban en el templo del Señor.

and the priest giveth to the heads of the hundreds the spears and the shields that king David had, that in the house of Jehovah.

11 L os de la guardia se formaron, desde el lado derecho hasta el lado izquierdo del templo, y junto al altar y el templo, y en derredor del rey. Cada uno tenía en sus manos sus armas.

And the runners stand, each with his weapons in his hand, from the right shoulder of the house unto the left shoulder of the house, by the altar and by the house, by the king round about;

12 L uego Joyadá sacó al hijo del rey, le puso la corona y el testimonio, lo ungieron y lo proclamaron rey. Aplaudían y gritaban: «¡Viva el rey!»

and he bringeth out the son of the king, and putteth on him the crown, and the testimony, and they make him king, and anoint him, and smite the hand, and say, `Let the king live.'

13 C uando Atalía oyó el bullicio de la gente que corría, entró al templo del Señor y se hizo presente.

And Athaliah heareth the voice of the runners of the people, and she cometh in unto the people, to the house of Jehovah,

14 C uando vio que el rey estaba junto a la columna, como era la costumbre, y que los príncipes y los trompeteros estaban junto al rey, y que todo el pueblo del país se regocijaba y tocaba las trompetas, se rasgó las vestiduras y a voz en cuello gritó: «¡Traición, traición!»

and looketh, and lo, the king is standing by the pillar, according to the ordinance, and the heads, and the trumpets, by the king, and all the people of the land are rejoicing, and blowing with trumpets, and Athaliah rendeth her garments, and calleth, `Conspiracy! conspiracy!'

15 P ero el sacerdote Joyadá dio órdenes a los jefes de centenas que gobernaban el ejército, y les dijo: «¡Échenla fuera del recinto del templo! A quien la siga, ¡mátenlo a filo de espada.» Y es que el sacerdote había ordenado que no la mataran en el templo del Señor.

And Jehoiada the priest commandeth the heads of the hundreds, inspectors of the force, and saith unto them, `Bring her out unto the outside of the ranges, and him who is going after her, put to death by the sword:' for the priest had said, `Let her not be put to death in the house of Jehovah.'

16 P or eso le abrieron paso, y la mataron en el camino por donde la gente de a caballo entra al palacio del rey.

And they make for her sides, and she entereth the way of the entering in of the horses to the house of the king, and is put to death there.

17 E l sacerdote Joyadá hizo un pacto entre el Señor, por una parte, y entre el rey y el pueblo, por la otra, y juraron que serían el pueblo del Señor. También se hizo un pacto entre el rey y el pueblo.

And Jehoiada maketh the covenant between Jehovah and the king and the people, to be for a people to Jehovah, and between the king and the people.

18 Y toda la gente del país entró en el templo de Baal, y lo derribaron; también destruyeron del todo sus altares y sus imágenes, y delante de los altares mataron a Matán, que era sacerdote de Baal. Luego, el sacerdote apostó una guarnición en el templo del Señor.

And all the people of the land go in to the house of Baal, and break it down, its altars and its images they have thoroughly broken, and Mattan priest of Baal they have slain before the altars; and the priest setteth inspectors over the house of Jehovah,

19 D espués tomó a los jefes de centenas, a los capitanes y a la guardia, y a todo el pueblo del país, y llevaron al rey desde el templo del Señor, siguiendo el camino que va de la puerta de la guardia al palacio del rey, y el rey se sentó en el trono real.

and taketh the heads of the hundreds, and the executioners, and the runners, and all the people of the land, and they bring down the king from the house of Jehovah, and come by the way of the gate of the runners, to the house of the king, and he sitteth on the throne of the kings.

20 Y todo el pueblo del país se regocijó, y la ciudad se quedó tranquila, pues Atalía había muerto a filo de espada junto al palacio del rey.

And all the people of the land rejoice, and the city quiet, and Athaliah they have put to death by the sword in the house of the king;

21 J oás tenía siete años cuando comenzó a reinar.

a son of seven years is Jehoash in his reigning.
