1 D ies ist das Wort, so der Prophet Jeremia redete zu Baruch, dem Sohn Nerias, da er diese Reden in ein Buch schrieb aus dem Munde Jeremia's im vierten Jahr Jojakims, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs in Juda, und sprach:

The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the dictation of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

2 S o spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels, von dir Baruch:

Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, unto you, O Baruch:

3 D u sprichst: Weh mir, wie hat mir der HERR Jammer zu meinem Schmerz hinzugefügt! Ich seufze mich müde und finde keine Ruhe.

You said, Woe is me now! For the Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am weary with my groaning and sighing and I find no rest.

4 S age ihm also: So spricht der HERR: Siehe, was ich gebaut habe, das breche ich ab; und was ich gepflanzt habe, das reute ich aus nämlich dies mein ganzes Land.

Say this to him: The Lord speaks thus: Behold, what I have built I will break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up—and this means the whole land.

5 U nd du begehrst dir große Dinge? Begehre es nicht! Denn siehe, ich will Unglück kommen lassen über alles Fleisch, spricht der HERR; aber deine Seele will ich dir zur Beute geben, an welchen Ort du ziehst.

And should you seek great things for yourself? Seek them not; for behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, says the Lord, but your life I will give to you as a prize of war wherever you go.
