1 I m vierten Jahr Jojakims, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs in Juda, geschah dies Wort zu Jeremia vom HERRN und sprach:

In the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord:

2 N imm ein Buch und schreibe darein alle Reden, die ich zu dir geredet habe über Israel, über Juda und alle Völker von der Zeit an, da ich zu dir geredet habe, nämlich von der Zeit Josias an bis auf diesen Tag;

Take a scroll for a book and write on it all the words I have spoken to you against Israel and Judah and all the nations from the day I spoke to you in the days of Josiah until this day.

3 o b vielleicht die vom Hause Juda, wo sie hören all das Unglück, das ich ihnen gedenke zu tun, sich bekehren wollten, ein jeglicher von seinem bösen Wesen, damit ich ihnen ihre Missetat und Sünde vergeben könnte.

It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them, so that each one may turn from his evil way, that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

4 D a rief Jeremia Baruch, den Sohn Nerias. Derselbe Baruch schrieb in ein Buch aus dem Munde Jeremia's alle Reden des HERRN, die er zu ihm geredet hatte.

Then Jeremiah called Baruch son of Neriah, and Baruch wrote upon the scroll of the book all the words which Jeremiah dictated, that the Lord had spoken to him.

5 U nd Jeremia gebot Baruch und sprach: Ich bin gefangen, daß ich nicht kann in des HERRN Haus gehen.

And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am restrained and shut up; I cannot go into the house of the Lord.

6 D u aber gehe hinein und lies das Buch, darein du des HERRN Reden aus meinem Munde geschrieben hast, vor dem Volk im Hause des HERRN am Fasttage, und sollst sie auch lesen vor den Ohren des ganzen Juda, die aus ihren Städten hereinkommen;

Therefore you go, and on a day of fasting, in the hearing of all the people in the Lord’s house, you shall read the words of the Lord which you have written on the scroll at my dictation. Also you shall read them in the hearing of all who come out of the cities of Judah.

7 o b sie vielleicht sich mit Beten vor dem HERRN demütigen wollen und sich bekehren, ein jeglicher von seinem bösen Wesen; denn der Zorn und Grimm ist groß, davon der HERR wider dies Volk geredet hat.

It may be that they will make their supplication before the Lord, and each one will turn back from his evil way, for great is the anger and the wrath that the Lord has pronounced against this people.

8 U nd Baruch, der Sohn Nerias, tat alles, wie ihm der Prophet Jeremia befohlen hatte, daß er die Reden des HERRN aus dem Buche läse im Hause des HERRN.

And Baruch son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading from book the words of the Lord in the Lord’s house.

9 E s begab sich aber im fünften Jahr Jojakims, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs Juda's, im neunten Monat, daß man ein Fasten verkündigte vor dem HERRN allem Volk zu Jerusalem und allem Volk, das aus den Städten Juda's gen Jerusalem kommt.

And in the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, a fast was proclaimed before the Lord for all the people in Jerusalem and all the people who came to Jerusalem from the cities of Judah.

10 U nd Baruch las aus dem Buche die Reden Jeremia's im Hause des HERRN, in der Kapelle Gemarjas, des Sohnes Saphans, des Kanzlers, im obern Vorhof, vor dem neuen Tor am Hause des HERRN, vor dem ganzen Volk.

Then Baruch read in the hearing of all the people the words of Jeremiah from the scroll of the book in the house of the Lord, in the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the scribe, in the upper court at the entry of the New Gate of the Lord’s house.

11 D a nun Michaja, der Sohn Gemarjas, des Sohnes Saphans, alle Reden des HERRN gehört hatte aus dem Buche,

When Micaiah son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the Lord,

12 g ing er hinab in des Königs Haus, in die Kanzlei. Und siehe, daselbst saßen alle Fürsten: Elisama, der Kanzler, Delaja, der Sohn Semajas, Elnathan, der Sohn Achbors, Gemarja, der Sohn Saphans, und Zedekia, der Sohn Hananjas, samt allen Fürsten.

He went down to the king’s house into the scribe’s chamber, and behold, all the princes were sitting there: Elishama the scribe, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan son of Achbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan, Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

13 U nd Michaja zeigte ihnen an alle Reden, die er gehört hatte, da Baruch las aus dem Buche vor den Ohren des Volks.

Then Micaiah declared to them all the words that he had heard when Baruch read the book in the hearing of the people.

14 D a sandten alle Fürsten Judi, den Sohn Nethanjas, des Sohnes Selemjas, des Sohnes Chusis, nach Baruch und ließen ihm sagen: Nimm das Buch daraus du vor dem Volk gelesen hast, mit dir und komme! Und Baruch, der Sohn Nerias, nahm das Buch mit sich und kam zu ihnen.

Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, Take in your hand the scroll from which you have read in the hearing of the people and come. So Baruch son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand and came to them.

15 U nd sie sprachen zu ihm: Setze dich und lies, daß wir es hören! Und Baruch las ihnen vor ihren Ohren.

And they said to him, Sit down now and read it in our hearing. So Baruch read it in their hearing.

16 U nd da sie alle die Reden hörten, entsetzten sie sich einer gegen den andern und sprachen zu Baruch: Wir wollen alle diese Reden dem König anzeigen.

Now when they had heard all the words, they turned one to another in fear and said to Baruch, We must surely tell the king of all these words.

17 U nd sie fragten Baruch: Sage uns, wie hast du alle diese Reden aus seinem Munde geschrieben?

And they asked Baruch, Tell us now, how did you write all these words? At dictation?

18 B aruch sprach zu ihnen: Er sagte vor mir alle diese Reden aus seinem Munde, und ich schrieb sie mit Tinte ins Buch.

Then Baruch answered them, He dictated all these words to me, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

19 D a sprachen die Fürsten zu Baruch: Gehe hin und verbirg dich mit Jeremia, daß niemand wisse, wo ihr seid.

Then the princes said to Baruch, Go and hide, you and Jeremiah, and let no one know where you are.

20 S ie aber gingen hin zum König in den Vorhof und ließen das Buch behalten in der Kammer Elisamas, des Kanzlers, und sagten vor dem König an alle diese Reden.

Then they went into the court to the king, but they put the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; then they reported all the words to the king.

21 D a sandte der König den Judi, das Buch zu holen. Der nahm es aus der Kammer Elisamas, des Kanzlers. Und Judi las vor dem König und allen Fürsten, die bei dem König standen.

So the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it in the hearing of the king and of all the princes who stood beside the king.

22 D er König aber saß im Winterhause, im neunten Monat, vor dem Kamin.

Now it was the ninth month, and the king was sitting in the winter house, and a fire was burning there before him in the brazier.

23 W enn aber Judi drei oder vier Blatt gelesen hatte, zerschnitt er es mit einem Schreibmesser und warf es ins Feuer, das im Kaminherde war, bis das Buch ganz verbrannte im Feuer,

And when Jehudi had read three or four columns, he would cut them off with a penknife and cast them into the fire that was in the brazier, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

24 u nd niemand entsetzte sich noch zerriß seine Kleider, weder der König noch seine Knechte, so doch alle diese Reden gehört hatten,

Yet they were not afraid, nor did they rend their garments—neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words.

25 u nd wiewohl Elnathan, Delaja und Gemarja den König baten, er wolle das Buch nicht verbrennen, gehorchte er ihnen doch nicht.

Even though Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah tried to persuade the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them.

26 D azu gebot noch der König Jerahmeel, dem Königssohn, und Seraja, dem Sohn Asriels, und Selemja, dem Sohn Abdeels, sie sollten Baruch, den Schreiber, und Jeremia, den Propheten, greifen. Aber der HERR hatte sie verborgen.

And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son and Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to seize Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet, but the Lord hid them.

27 D a geschah des HERRN Wort zu Jeremia, nachdem der König das Buch und die Reden, so Baruch geschrieben aus dem Munde Jeremia's, verbrannt hatte, und sprach:

Now the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah after the king had burned the scroll with the words which Baruch wrote at the dictation of Jeremiah, said:

28 N imm dir wiederum ein anderes Buch und schreib alle vorigen Reden darein, die im ersten Buche standen, welches Jojakim, der König Juda's, verbrannt hat,

Take another scroll and write on it all the former words that were on the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah burned.

29 u nd sage von Jojakim, dem König Juda's: So spricht der HERR: Du hast dies Buch verbrannt und gesagt: Warum hast du darein geschrieben, daß der König von Babel werde kommen und dies Land verderben und machen, daß weder Leute noch Vieh darin mehr sein werden?

And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, Thus says the Lord: You have burned this scroll, saying, Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon shall surely come and destroy this land and shall cut off man and beast from it?

30 D arum spricht der HERR von Jojakim, dem König Juda's: Es soll keiner von den Seinen auf dem Stuhl Davids sitzen, und sein Leichnam soll hingeworfen des Tages in der Hitze und des Nachts im Frost liegen;

Therefore thus says the Lord concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have no to sit upon the throne of David, and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat by day and to the frost by night.

31 u nd ich will ihn und seinen Samen und seine Knechte heimsuchen um ihrer Missetat willen; und ich will über sie und über die Bürger zu Jerusalem und über die in Juda kommen lassen all das Unglück, davon ich ihnen geredet habe, und sie gehorchten doch nicht.

And I will punish him and his offspring and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the men of Judah all the evil that I have pronounced against them—but they would not hear.

32 D a nahm Jeremia ein anderes Buch und gab's Baruch, dem Sohn Nerias, dem Schreiber. Der schrieb darein aus dem Munde Jeremia's alle die Reden, so in dem Buch standen, das Jojakim, der König Juda's, hatte mit Feuer verbrennen lassen; und zu denselben wurden dergleichen Reden noch viele hinzugetan.

Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote on it at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and besides them many similar words were added.
