1 A sí ha dicho el Señor: «Ve ahora al palacio del rey de Judá, y pronuncia allí estas palabras

Thus says the Lord: Go down to the house of the king of Judah and speak there this word:

2 a nte el rey de Judá: “Oigan la palabra del Señor, lo mismo tú que reinas sobre el trono de David, que tus siervos y el pueblo que entra por estas puertas.

Hear the word of the Lord, O king of Judah, you who sit upon the throne of David—you and your servants and your people who enter by these gates.

3 Y o, el Señor, he dicho: Practiquen la justicia y el derecho. Libren de sus opresores a los oprimidos. No engañen ni roben al extranjero, ni al huérfano ni a la viuda. No derramen sangre inocente en este lugar.

Thus says the Lord: Execute justice and righteousness, and deliver out of the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed. And do no wrong; do no violence to the stranger or temporary resident, the fatherless, or the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place.

4 S i en verdad obedecen mi palabra, los reyes que ahora ocupan el trono de David entrarán por las puertas de este palacio montados en carros y en caballos, junto con sus criados y su ejército.

For if you will indeed obey this word, then will there enter in through the gates of this house kings sitting upon David’s throne, riding in chariots and on horses—they and their servants and their people.

5 P ero, si no obedecen mi palabra, juro por mí mismo que este palacio quedará en ruinas.”» —Palabra del Señor.

But if you will not hear these words, I swear by Myself, says the Lord, that this house will become a desolation.

6 A sí ha dicho el Señor acerca del palacio del rey de Judá: «Este palacio me parece tan bello como la región de Galaad y como la cumbre del monte Líbano. Sin embargo, lo convertiré en un desierto rodeado de ciudades deshabitadas.

For thus says the Lord concerning the house of the king of Judah: you are to Me as Gilead or as the summit of Lebanon, yet surely I will make you a wilderness and uninhabited cities.

7 D ispondré contra él un ejército, y cada uno de sus soldados lo destruirá con sus armas. ¡Derribarán sus bellas columnas de cedro, y las echarán en el fuego!

And I will prepare, solemnly set apart, and appoint destroyers, each with his weapons, and they will cut down your choicest cedars and cast them into the fire.

8 M ucha gente pasará junto a esta ciudad, y unos a otros se dirán: “¿Por qué hizo esto el Señor con tan imponente ciudad?”

And many nations will pass by this city, and every man will say to his neighbor, Why has the Lord done this to this great city?

9 Y la respuesta será: “Porque se apartaron del pacto del Señor su Dios, y adoraron y sirvieron a dioses ajenos.”»

Then they will answer, Because forsook the covenant or solemn pledge with the Lord their God and worshiped other gods and served them.

10 N o lloren al muerto, ni se compadezcan de él. Más bien, lloren amargamente por el que se va, porque jamás volverá a ver la tierra en que nació.

Weep not for him who is dead nor bemoan him; but weep bitterly for him who goes away, for he shall return no more nor see his native country.

11 E n efecto, el Señor ha dicho acerca de Salún hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, que sucedió en el trono a su padre Josías: «Has sido expulsado de aquí, y nunca más volverás aquí.

For thus says the Lord concerning Shallum son of Josiah king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father and who went forth out of this place: shall not return here any more;

12 M orirás en el país al que fuiste llevado cautivo, y nunca más volverás a ver esta tierra.

But he shall die in the place where they have led him captive, and he shall see this land no more.

13 » ¡Ay de ti, que eriges tu palacio sin justicia, y tus salas sin equidad! ¡Ay de ti, que explotas a tu prójimo y no le pagas el salario de su trabajo!

Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness and his chambers by injustice, who uses his neighbor’s service without wages and does not give him his pay,

14 ¡ Ay de ti, que dices: “Voy a construirme un palacio espacioso, con amplias salas”, y le abres ventanas, lo recubres de cedro y lo pintas de bermellón!

Who says, I will build myself a wide house with large rooms, and he cuts himself out windows, and it is ceiled or paneled with cedar and painted with vermilion.

15 ¿ Acaso el verte rodeado de cedro te convierte en rey? ¿Acaso a tu padre le faltó comida y bebida? ¡A él le fue bien porque practicó la justicia y el derecho!

Do you think that being a king means vying and striving to excel in cedar ? Did not your father, as he ate and drank, do justice and righteousness ? Then it was well with him.

16 ¡ Le fue bien porque les hizo justicia a los pobres y menesterosos! ¡A eso le llamo conocerme! —Palabra del Señor.

He judged and defended the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Was not this to know and recognize Me? says the Lord.

17 » Tú, en cambio, sólo ves lo que te conviene; sólo piensas en saciar tu avaricia, en derramar sangre inocente y en oprimir y agraviar a otros.»

But your eyes and your heart are only for your covetousness and dishonest gain, for shedding innocent blood, for oppression and doing violence.

18 P or lo tanto, así ha dicho el Señor acerca de Joacín hijo de Josías, rey de Judá: «Nadie te llorará. Nadie dirá: “¡Ay, hermano mío!”, ni “¡Ay, hermana mía!” Nadie lamentará tu muerte, ni te dirá: “¡Ay, señor! ¡Ay, Su Majestad!”

Therefore thus says the Lord concerning Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah: shall not lament for him, saying, Ah, my brother! or, Ah, sister, shall not lament for him saying, Ah, lord! or Ah, his majesty! or Ah, his glory!

19 A l contrario, te arrastrarán hasta fuera de la ciudad de Jerusalén, y te enterrarán como si fueras un asno.

he shall be buried with the burial of a donkey—dragged out and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

20 » ¡Sube al monte Líbano y grita! ¡Ve a Basán y deja oír tu voz! ¡Grita desde Abarín! Porque todos tus aliados van a ser destruidos.

Go up to Lebanon and cry out, and raise your voice in of Bashan, and cry out from Abarim, for all your lovers (the king’s chosen allies) are destroyed.

21 T e hablé cuando gozabas de prosperidad, pero dijiste: “No quiero escuchar.” Y desde que eras joven te has portado así. Nunca has querido hacerme caso.

I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, I will not listen! This has been your attitude from your youth; you have not obeyed My voice.

22 P or eso todos tus dirigentes serán arrastrados por el viento, y todos tus aliados serán llevados al cautiverio. Entonces tu ciudad quedará en vergüenza y confundida por causa de toda tu maldad.

The wind shall pasture upon and consume all your shepherds (your princes and statesmen), and your lovers (allies) shall go into captivity. Surely then shall you be ashamed and confounded and dismayed because of all your wickedness.

23 A hora habitas en el nido que te hiciste con los cedros del Líbano; pero ya te vendrán dolores, como de parturienta, ¡y entonces gemirás!

O inhabitant of Lebanon, you who make your nest among the cedars, how you will groan and how pitiable you will be when pangs come upon you, pain like that of a woman in childbirth!

24 » Conías, hijo de Joacín y rey de Judá, yo te juro que voy a deshacerme de ti, aun cuando seas como un anillo en mi diestra. —Palabra del Señor.

As I live, says the Lord, though Coniah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon My right hand, yet would I tear you off.

25 » Voy a entregarte en manos de los que quieren matarte; en manos de aquellos que al verlos te hacen temblar. ¡Sí, voy a ponerte en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y en manos de los caldeos!

And I will give you into the hands of those who seek your life and into the hand of those of whom you are afraid, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and into the hands of the Chaldeans.

26 V oy a hacer que a tu madre y a ti se los lleven cautivos, a un país extraño en donde no nacieron. ¡Allí morirán!

And I will hurl you and the mother who bore you into another country, where you were not born, and there you will die.

27 C on toda el alma querrán ustedes volver a su propio país, pero jamás volverán.»

But to the land to which they will yearn to return, there they will not return.

28 Y este Conías, ¿es acaso una vasija rota y despreciada? ¿Es acaso un trasto que a nadie le importa? ¿Por qué fueron expulsados él y los suyos a un país que nunca antes conocieron?

Is this man Coniah a despised, broken pot? Is he a vessel in which no one takes pleasure? Why are they hurled out, he and his royal offspring, and cast into a land which they do not know, understand, or recognize?

29 ¡ Tierra, tierra, tierra!, ¡oye la palabra del Señor!

O land, land, land, hear the word of the Lord!

30 A sí ha dicho el Señor: «Pongan por escrito que este hombre se quedó sin hijos, y que nada próspero le espera por el resto de su vida. Porque ninguno de sus hijos llegará a ocupar el trono de David, ni reinará sobre Judá.»

Thus says the Lord: Write this man down as childless, a man who shall not prosper in his days, for no man of his offspring shall succeed in sitting upon the throne of David and ruling any more in Judah.
