1 T res años transcurrieron sin que Siria e Israel estuvieran en guerra.

Three years passed without war between Aram and Israel.

2 P ero al tercer año el rey Josafat de Judá fue a visitar al rey Ajab de Israel,

In the third year Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.

3 y éste dijo a sus oficiales: «¿Ya no se acuerdan que Ramot de Galaad nos pertenece? Está en poder del rey de Siria, ¡y nosotros no hemos hecho nada para recuperarla!»

Now the king of Israel said to his servants, “Do you know that Ramoth-gilead belongs to us, and we are still doing nothing to take it out of the hand of the king of Aram?”

4 A Josafat le preguntó: «¿Quieres acompañarme a recuperar Ramot de Galaad?» Y Josafat le respondió: «Tú y yo somos hermanos, nuestros pueblos también lo son, y tu caballería y la mía es una sola.

And he said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle at Ramoth-gilead?” And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “ I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”

5 P ero te sugiero que antes consultes que dice el Señor al respecto.»

Moreover, Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for the word of the Lord.”

6 E ntonces el rey de Israel reunió a los cuatrocientos profetas con que contaba, y les preguntó: «¿Debo atacar a Ramot de Galaad, o no?» Los profetas le dijeron: «Vaya Su Majestad, porque el Señor entregará la ciudad en sus manos.»

Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle or shall I refrain?” And they said, “Go up, for the Lord will give it into the hand of the king.”

7 P ero Josafat insistió: «¿Queda aún algún profeta del Señor, a quien podamos consultar?»

But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not yet a prophet of the Lord here that we may inquire of him?”

8 Y Ajab le respondió: «Sí, aún queda otro profeta por medio del cual podríamos consultar al Señor. Se trata de Micaías hijo de Imla, pero me cae muy mal porque nunca me da palabras de aliento, sino que siempre me desanima.» Como Josafat le recomendó que no hablara así,

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord, but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” But Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say so.”

9 A jab llamó entonces a uno de sus oficiales y le ordenó que fuera a buscar a Micaías hijo de Imla y lo llevara ante él.

Then the king of Israel called an officer and said, “ Bring quickly Micaiah son of Imlah.”

10 M ientras tanto, los dos reyes se quedaron en la plaza que está junto a la puerta de Samaria, sentados en sus tronos y ataviados con sus mantos reales. Delante de ellos, los profetas les prodigaban buenos augurios.

Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, at the threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.

11 U no de ellos, Sedequías hijo de Quenaná, se acercó y les mostró unos cuernos de hierro que había hecho, y dijo: «Así ha dicho el Señor: “Con estos cuernos cornearás a los sirios hasta acabar con ellos.”»

Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made horns of iron for himself and said, “Thus says the Lord, ‘ With these you will gore the Arameans until they are consumed.’”

12 L os demás profetas también animaban al rey, y le decían: «Vaya Su Majestad a Ramot de Galaad, y atáquela. El Señor le dará la victoria y entregará la ciudad a Su Majestad.»

All the prophets were prophesying thus, saying, “Go up to Ramoth-gilead and prosper, for the Lord will give it into the hand of the king.” Micaiah Predicts Defeat

13 E l mensajero que el rey mandó por Micaías, lo halló y le dijo: «Todos los profetas auguran éxito a Su Majestad. Une tu voz a la de ellos, y augúrale mucho éxito.»

Then the messenger who went to summon Micaiah spoke to him saying, “Behold now, the words of the prophets are uniformly favorable to the king. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak favorably.”

14 P ero Micaías respondió: «Juro por el Señor, que sólo diré lo que el Señor me ordene decir.»

But Micaiah said, “ As the Lord lives, what the Lord says to me, that I shall speak.”

15 C uando Micaías se presentó ante el rey, éste le preguntó: «Dime, Micaías; ¿debemos ir y atacar a Ramot de Galaad, o la dejaremos en paz?» Y Micaías le respondió: «Ve y atácala, que saldrás victorioso. El Señor te la va a entregar.»

When he came to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we refrain?” And he answered him, “ Go up and succeed, and the Lord will give it into the hand of the king.”

16 P ero el rey le dijo: «¿Cuántas veces tengo que decirte, en el nombre del Señor, que me digas sólo la verdad?»

Then the king said to him, “How many times must I adjure you to speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord ?”

17 E ntonces Micaías dijo: «Tuve una visión, y en ella vi al pueblo de Israel disperso por los montes, como ovejas sin pastor. Entonces el Señor dijo: “Esta gente no tiene quién la guíe. Es mejor que todos se regresen a su casa en paz.”»

So he said, “I saw all Israel Scattered on the mountains, Like sheep which have no shepherd. And the Lord said, ‘These have no master. Let each of them return to his house in peace.’”

18 E l rey de Israel se volvió a Josafat, y le dijo: «¿No te lo había dicho ya? Micaías nunca me anuncia nada bueno. Sólo me anuncia calamidades.»

Then the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “ Did I not tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”

19 P ero Micaías replicó: «¡Ahora vas a oír la palabra del Señor! Yo vi al Señor en su trono, rodeado de todos los ejércitos del cielo.

Micaiah said, “Therefore, hear the word of the Lord. I saw the Lord sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His left.

20 Y el Señor preguntó: “¿Quién incitará a Ajab para que ataque a Ramot de Galaad y sea derrotado?” Las opiniones estaban divididas.

The Lord said, ‘Who will entice Ahab to go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ And one said this while another said that.

21 P ero un espíritu se presentó ante el Señor y dijo que él lo incitaría. Cuando el Señor le preguntó cómo lo haría,

Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord and said, ‘I will entice him.’

22 e l espíritu dijo: “Voy a mezclarme entre los profetas, y los haré decir mentiras.” Entonces el Señor le dijo: “Pues ve y hazlo pronto. Indúcelos a que hagan lo que dices.”

The Lord said to him, ‘How?’ And he said, ‘I will go out and be a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ Then He said, ‘You are to entice him and also prevail. Go and do so.’

23 A sí que el Señor ha puesto en labios de tus profetas un espíritu que los hace decir mentiras. Y el Señor ha determinado que te sobrevenga la calamidad.»

Now therefore, behold, the Lord has put a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and the Lord has proclaimed disaster against you.”

24 E n ese momento el profeta Sedequías hijo de Quenaná se acercó a Micaías y le dio una bofetada, al tiempo que le decía: «¿En qué momento el espíritu del Señor me abandonó, para hablarte a ti?»

Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, “ How did the Spirit of the Lord pass from me to speak to you?”

25 M icaías le respondió: «Lo sabrás cuando andes huyendo y escondiéndote de casa en casa.»

Micaiah said, “Behold, you shall see on that day when you enter an inner room to hide yourself.”

26 E ntonces el rey de Israel dijo: «Tomen preso a Micaías, y llévenlo ante Amón, el gobernador de la ciudad, y ante Joás, mi hijo.

Then the king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son;

27 D íganles que yo, el rey de Israel, he dicho: “Metan a la cárcel a este hombre. En vez de pan y agua, manténganlo angustiado y afligido hasta que yo regrese en paz.”»

and say, ‘Thus says the king, “ Put this man in prison and feed him sparingly with bread and water until I return safely.”’”

28 P ero al instante Micaías añadió: «Si acaso regresas en paz, entonces el Señor no ha hablado por medio de mí. ¡Escúchenlo bien, pueblos todos!»

Micaiah said, “ If you indeed return safely the Lord has not spoken by me.” And he said, “ Listen, all you people.” Defeat and Death of Ahab

29 E l rey de Israel y el rey de Judá salieron juntos contra Ramot de Galaad.

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up against Ramoth-gilead.

30 Y el rey de Israel le dijo a Josafat: «Voy a entrar en batalla disfrazado, pero tú puedes usar tu misma ropa.» Y el rey de Israel entró en batalla disfrazado.

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “ I will disguise myself and go into the battle, but you put on your robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle.

31 P ero no sabía que el rey de Siria había ordenado a los treinta y dos capitanes de sus carros de combate no pelear contra ningún soldado israelita, grande o chico, sino buscar y atacar sólo al rey de Israel.

Now the king of Aram had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, “Do not fight with small or great, but with the king of Israel alone.”

32 A sí que, cuando los capitanes vieron a Josafat, dijeron: «¡Miren, allí está el rey de Israel!» Entonces el rey Josafat gritó con fuerza,

So when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “Surely it is the king of Israel,” and they turned aside to fight against him, and Jehoshaphat cried out.

33 y al ver los capitanes de los carros que no era el rey de Israel, se alejaron de él.

When the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.

34 P ero un arquero lanzó una flecha al aire, y la flecha alcanzó al rey Ajab y le penetró entre las junturas de su armadura. Al sentirse herido, el rey le ordenó al cochero darse la vuelta y sacarlo del campo de batalla, porque estaba herido.

Now a certain man drew his bow at random and struck the king of Israel in a joint of the armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around and take me out of the fight; for I am severely wounded.”

35 P ero la batalla arreció y el rey tuvo que quedarse en su carro y hacerle frente al ejército sirio, pero la sangre corría por el fondo del carro y al caer la tarde murió.

The battle raged that day, and the king was propped up in his chariot in front of the Arameans, and died at evening, and the blood from the wound ran into the bottom of the chariot.

36 A l ponerse el sol, un pregonero clamó: «¡Regresen todos a su ciudad y a su tierra!»

Then a cry passed throughout the army close to sunset, saying, “Every man to his city and every man to his country.”

37 A sí fue como el rey Ajab murió y fue llevado a Samaria, donde lo sepultaron.

So the king died and was brought to Samaria, and they buried the king in Samaria.

38 L uego llevaron su carro al estanque de Samaria para lavarlo, y los perros lamieron la sangre del rey. (En ese mismo estanque se lavaban también las prostitutas.) Así se cumplió lo que el Señor había dicho acerca de Ajab.

They washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood (now the harlots bathed themselves there ), according to the word of the Lord which He spoke.

39 T odos los hechos de Ajab, y la construcción de su palacio de marfil, y todas las ciudades que mandó edificar, se hallan registrados en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel.

Now the rest of the acts of Ahab and all that he did and the ivory house which he built and all the cities which he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

40 Y Ajab murió y fue a reunirse con sus antepasados. En su lugar reinó su hijo Ocozías. Reinado de Josafat

So Ahab slept with his fathers, and Ahaziah his son became king in his place. The New Rulers

41 J osafat hijo de Asa comenzó a reinar sobre Judá cuando Ajab llevaba cuatro años de reinar sobre Israel.

Now Jehoshaphat the son of Asa became king over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

42 J osafat tenía treinta y cinco años cuando subió al trono, y reinó veinticinco años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Azura, y era hija de Siljí.

Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

43 Y Josafat siguió siempre el buen ejemplo de Asa, su padre, e hizo lo recto a los ojos del Señor. Sin embargo, no se quitaron los altares de los montes, sino que el pueblo siguió ofreciendo en ellos sacrificios y quemando incienso.

He walked in all the way of Asa his father; he did not turn aside from it, doing right in the sight of the Lord. However, the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense on the high places.

44 P ero Josafat hizo la paz con el rey de Israel.

Jehoshaphat also made peace with the king of Israel.

45 T odos los hechos y las hazañas de Josafat, y las guerras que libró, se hallan en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might which he showed and how he warred, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

46 J osafat eliminó a los hombres que practicaban la prostitución en los templos paganos, costumbre que todavía quedaba del reinado de su padre Asa.

The remnant of the sodomites who remained in the days of his father Asa, he expelled from the land.

47 C omo Edom no tenía rey, había un gobernador que fungía como rey.

Now there was no king in Edom; a deputy was king.

48 J osafat había mandado construir naves como las de Tarsis para traer oro de Ofir, pero las naves no llegaron allá porque naufragaron en Ezión Guéber.

Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they did not go for the ships were broken at Ezion-geber.

49 E l rey Ocozías le propuso a Josafat enviar a sus marinos con los de Josafat, pero éste no aceptó.

Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships.” But Jehoshaphat was not willing.

50 Y murió Josafat y se reunió con sus antepasados, y lo sepultaron con ellos en la ciudad de su antepasado David. En su lugar reinó Jorán, su hijo. Reinado de Ocozías de Israel

And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of his father David, and Jehoram his son became king in his place.

51 O cozías hijo de Ajab comenzó a reinar sobre Israel en Samaria cuando Josafat llevaba diecisiete años de reinar en Judá.

Ahaziah the son of Ahab became king over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel.

52 P ero Ocozías siguió el mal ejemplo de su padre, de su madre y de Jeroboán hijo de Nabat, e hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor, haciendo pecar al pueblo de Israel.

He did evil in the sight of the Lord and walked in the way of his father and in the way of his mother and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.

53 S irvió y adoró a Baal, como antes lo había hecho su padre, y esto provocó la ira del Señor, Dios de Israel.

So he served Baal and worshiped him and provoked the Lord God of Israel to anger, according to all that his father had done.
