1 F iglio mio, se ricevi le mie parole e fai tesoro dei miei comandamenti,

My son, if you will receive my words and treasure up my commandments within you,

2 p restando orecchio alla sapienza e inclinando il cuore all'intendimento;

Making your ear attentive to skillful and godly Wisdom and inclining and directing your heart and mind to understanding;

3 s í se chiedi con forza il discernimento e alzi la tua voce per ottenere intendimento,

Yes, if you cry out for insight and raise your voice for understanding,

4 s e lo cerchi come l'argento e ti dai a scavarlo come un tesoro nascosto,

If you seek as for silver and search for skillful and godly Wisdom as for hidden treasures,

5 a llora intenderai il timore dell'Eterno, e troverai la conoscenza di DIO.

Then you will understand the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

6 P oiché l'Eterno dà la sapienza; dalla sua bocca procedono la conoscenza e l'intendimento.

For the Lord gives skillful and godly Wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

7 E gli tiene in serbo per gli uomini retti un aiuto potente, uno scudo per quelli che camminano rettamente,

He hides away sound and godly Wisdom and stores it for the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with Him); He is a shield to those who walk uprightly and in integrity,

8 p er proteggere i sentieri della equità e custodire la via dei suoi santi.

That He may guard the paths of justice; yes, He preserves the way of His saints.

9 A llora intenderai la giustizia, l'equità, la rettitudine e tutte le vie del bene.

Then you will understand righteousness, justice, and fair dealing; yes, you will understand every good path.

10 Q uando la sapienza entrerà nel tuo cuore e la conoscenza sarà gradevole alla tua anima,

For skillful and godly Wisdom shall enter into your heart, and knowledge shall be pleasant to you.

11 l a riflessione veglierà su di te e l'intendimento ti proteggerà,

Discretion shall watch over you, understanding shall keep you,

12 p er liberarti dalla via malvagia, dalla gente che parla di cose perverse,

To deliver you from the way of evil and the evil men, from men who speak perverse things and are liars,

13 d a quelli che lasciano i sentieri della rettitudine per camminare nelle vie delle tenebre,

Men who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness,

14 c he godono a fare il male e provano piacere nelle perversità del malvagio,

Who rejoice to do evil and delight in the perverseness of evil,

15 i cui sentieri sono storti e le cui vie sono tortuose,

Who are crooked in their ways, wayward and devious in their paths.

16 p er scamparti dalla donna adultera, dalla straniera che usa parole lusinghevoli,

to deliver you from the alien woman, from the outsider with her flattering words,

17 c he ha abbandonato il compagno della sua giovinezza e ha dimenticato il patto del suo DIO.

Who forsakes the husband and guide of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God.

18 P oiché la sua casa scende verso la morte e i suoi sentieri verso i defunti.

For her house sinks down to death and her paths to the spirits.

19 N essuno di quelli che vanno da lei ritorna, nessuno raggiunge i sentieri della vita.

None who go to her return again, neither do they attain or regain the paths of life.

20 C osí potrai camminare per la via dei buoni e rimarrai nei sentieri dei giusti.

So may you walk in the way of good men, and keep to the paths of the righteous (the upright, in right standing with God).

21 P oiché gli uomini retti abiteranno la terra e quelli integri vi rimarranno;

For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the men of integrity, blameless and complete, shall remain in it;

22 m a gli empi saranno sterminati dalla terra e i trasgressori saranno da essa strappati.

But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the treacherous shall be rooted out of it.
