1 D avide, ormai vecchio e sazio di giorni, costituí re su Israele suo figlio Salomone.

Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

2 E gli radunò tutti i capi d'Israele assieme ai sacerdoti e ai Leviti.

And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

3 S i contarono i Leviti da trent'anni in su; e il numero degli individui maschi fu di trentottomila.

And the Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.

4 D i questi ventiquattromila furono preposti a dirigere il lavoro della casa dell'Eterno, seimila erano magistrati e giudici,

Of these, twenty and four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of Jehovah; and six thousand were officers and judges;

5 q uattromila erano portinai e quattromila dovevano lodare l'Eterno con gli strumenti che Davide aveva fatto per celebrarlo.

and four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised Jehovah with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith.

6 D avide li divise in classi, secondo i figli di Levi: Ghershom, Kehath e Merari.

And David divided them into courses according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7 D ei Ghershoniti: Ladan e Scimei.

Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.

8 F igli di Ladan: Jeiel, il capo, Zetham e Joel; tre in tutto.

The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

9 F igli di Scimei: Scelomith, Haziel e Haran, tre in tutto. Questi erano i capi delle famiglie paterne di Ladan.

The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers' houses of Ladan.

10 F igli di Scimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush e Beriah. Questi erano i quattro figli di Scimei.

And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

11 J ahath era il capo, Zina, il secondo; Jeush e Beriah non ebbero molti figli perciò nel censimento formarono una sola casa paterna.

And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they became a fathers' house in one reckoning.

12 F igli di Kehath: Amram, Itshar, Hebron e Uzziel; quattro in tutto.

The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

13 F igli di Amram: Aaronne e Mosè Aaronne fu appartato per consacrare le cose sacrosante, lui e i suoi figli per sempre, per bruciare incenso, davanti all'Eterno, per servirlo e per benedire il suo nome per sempre.

The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, for ever, to burn incense before Jehovah, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, for ever.

14 Q uanto a Mosè, l'uomo di DIO, i suoi figli furono calcolati nella tribú di Levi.

But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.

15 I figli di Mosè furono Gershom e Eliezer.

The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.

16 D ei figli di Ghershom, Scebuel fu il capo.

The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.

17 D ei figli di Eliezer, Rehabiah fu il capo. Eliezer non ebbe altri figli, ma i figli di Rehabiah furono numerosissimi.

And the sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

18 D ei figli di Itshar. Scelomith fu il capo.

The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.

19 D ei figli di Hebron Jerijah fu il capo, Amariah il secondo, Jahaziel il terzo e Jekameam il quarto.

The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

20 D ei figli di Uzziel, Mikah fu il capo e Ishshiah il secondo.

The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.

21 I figli di Merari furono Mahli e Musci. I figli di Mahli furono Eleazar e Kish.

The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.

22 E leazar morí e non ebbe figli, ma solo figlie le quali sposarono i figli di Kish, loro fratelli.

And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them to wife.

23 I figli di Musci furono Mahli, Eder e Jeremoth; tre in tutto.

The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

24 Q uesti furono i figli di Levi secondo le loro case paterne, i capi delle case paterne secondo il censimento, fatto contando i nomi uno per uno. Essi erano incaricati del servizio della casa dell'Eterno dai vent'anni in su.

These were the sons of Levi after their fathers' houses, even the heads of the fathers' houses of those of them that were counted, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the house of Jehovah, from twenty years old and upward.

25 P oiché Davide aveva detto: «L'Eterno, DIO d'Israele, ha dato riposo al suo popolo, perché egli potesse dimorare in Gerusalemme per sempre.

For David said, Jehovah, the God of Israel, hath given rest unto his people; and he dwelleth in Jerusalem for ever:

26 C osí i Leviti, non avranno piú da trasportare il tabernacolo, e tutti gli oggetti per il suo servizio».

and also the Levites shall no more have need to carry the tabernacle and all the vessels of it for the service thereof.

27 S econdo le ultime disposizioni di Davide si fece il censimento dei figli di Levi dai vent'anni in su.

For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and upward.

28 P oiché il loro compito era quello di aiutare i figli di Aaronne nel servizio della casa dell'Eterno nei cortili, nelle camere, nella purificazione di tutte le cose sacre, nel lavoro di servizio della casa di DIO.

For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of Jehovah, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God;

29 c on i pani della presentazione, con il fior di farina per l'offerta di cibo, con le focacce non lievitate, con le cose da cuocere nella padella, con ciò che era mescolato con olio e con tutte le misure, e dimensioni.

for the showbread also, and for the fine flour for a meal-offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all manner of measure and size;

30 E ssi dovevano inoltre presentarsi ogni mattina per celebrare e lodare l'Eterno, e cosí pure ogni sera

and to stand every morning to thank and praise Jehovah, and likewise at even;

31 e per offrire del continuo davanti all'Eterno tutti gli olocausti, secondo il numero che la legge imponeva loro nei sabati, nei noviluni e nelle feste solenni.

and to offer all burnt-offerings unto Jehovah, on the sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before Jehovah;

32 E ssi dovevano inoltre eseguire i compiti riguardanti la tenda di convegno e il santuario, e assistere i figli di Aaronne loro fratelli nel servizio della casa dell'Eterno.

and that they should keep the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, for the service of the house of Jehovah.
