1 O r avvenne che Davide dopo che si era stabilito nella sua casa disse al profeta Nathan: «Ecco, io abito in una casa di cedro mentre l'arca del patto dell'Eterno si trova sotto una tenda».

And it came to pass, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of Jehovah dwelleth under curtains.

2 N athan rispose a Davide: «Fa' tutto ciò che hai in cuore, perché Dio è con te».

And Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thy heart; for God is with thee.

3 M a quella stessa notte la parola di DIO fu rivolta a Nathan, dicendo:

And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

4 « Va' a dire al mio servo Davide "Cosí dice l'Eterno: Non sarai tu a costruirmi una casa in cui possa dimorare.

Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith Jehovah, Thou shalt not build me a house to dwell in:

5 I nfatti non ho mai abitato in una casa dal giorno in cui feci uscire Israele dall'Egitto fino ad oggi; ma sono andato di tenda in tenda e da una dimora all'altra.

for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel, unto this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

6 D ovunque sono andato con tutto Israele, ho io mai parlato ad alcuno dei giudici d'Israele, ai quali avevo comandato di pascere il mio popolo, dicendo: "Perché non mi costruite una casa di cedro?".

In all places wherein I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people, saying, Why have ye not built me a house of cedar?

7 O ra dunque parlerai cosí al mio servo Davide: "Cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: lo ti presi dall'ovile, mentre seguivi le pecore, per costituirti principe sul mio popolo Israele.

Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people Israel:

8 S ono stato con te dovunque sei andato, ho sterminato davanti a te tutti i tuoi nemici e ho reso il tuo nome come quello dei grandi che sono sulla terra.

and I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast gone, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth.

9 I noltre assegnerò un posto al mio popolo Israele e lo pianterò perché abiti in casa sua e non sia piú sballottato, e i malvagi non continuino a devastarlo come prima,

And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the first,

10 f in da quando ho stabilito i giudici sul mio popolo Israele, Umilierò pure tutti i tuoi nemici. Inoltre ti annunzio che l'Eterno ti costruirà una casa.

and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will subdue all thine enemies. Moreover I tell thee that Jehovah will build thee a house.

11 Q uando i tuoi giorni si compiranno e tu andrai a raggiungere i tuoi padri, io farò sorgere un tuo discendente, che sarà uno dei tuoi figli, e consoliderò il suo regno.

And it shall come to pass, when thy days are fulfilled that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will set up thy seed after thee, who shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

12 E gli mi costruirà una casa e io renderò saldo il suo trono per sempre.

He shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne for ever.

13 l o sarò per lui un padre ed egli sarà per me un figlio; e non ritirerò da lui il mio favore come l'ho ritirato da colui che ti ha preceduto.

I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my lovingkindness away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee;

14 I o lo renderò saldo per sempre nella mia casa e nel mio regno, e il suo trono sarà reso stabile per sempre"».

but I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom for ever; and his throne shall be established for ever.

15 N athan parlò a Davide, secondo tutte queste parole e secondo tutta questa visione.

According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

16 A llora il re Davide entrò, si sedette davanti all'Eterno e disse: «Chi sono io, o Eterno DIO, che cosa è la mia casa, perché tu mi abbia fatto arrivare fino qui?

Then David the king went in, and sat before Jehovah; and he said, Who am I, O Jehovah God, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far?

17 E ppure questo è parso poca cosa ai tuoi occhi, o DIO; tu hai pure parlato della casa del tuo servo per un lontano avvenire e mi hai riguardato come se fossi un uomo di alto rango, o Eterno DIO.

And this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; but thou hast spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O Jehovah God.

18 C he cosa potrebbe ancora dirti Davide per l'onore fatto al tuo servo? Tu che conosci infatti il tuo servo.

What can David say yet more unto thee concerning the honor which is done to thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.

19 O Eterno, per amore del tuo servo secondo il tuo cuore, hai compiuto tutto queste opere potenti per far conoscere tutte queste grandi cose.

O Jehovah, for thy servant's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make known all these great things.

20 O Eterno, nessuno è simile a te e non c'è altro DIO fuori di te, secondo tutto ciò che abbiamo udito con le nostre orecchie.

O Jehovah, there is none like thee, neither is there any God besides thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

21 E chi è come il tuo popolo Israele l'unica nazione sulla terra che DIO sia venuto a redimere per farne il suo popolo, per farti un nome con cose grandi tremende, scacciando le nazioni davanti al tuo popolo che tu hai redento dall'Egitto?

And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, to make thee a name by great and terrible things, in driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou redeemest out of Egypt?

22 T u hai fatto del tuo popolo Israele tuo proprio popolo per sempre; e tu, Eterno, sei divenuto il loro DIO.

For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, Jehovah, becamest their God.

23 O r dunque, o Eterno, la parola che hai pronunciato riguardo al tuo servo alla sua casa rimanga stabile per sempre! Fa' come hai detto!

And now, O Jehovah, let the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, be established for ever, and do as thou hast spoken.

24 S í, rimanga stabile, affinché il tuo nome sia magnificato per sempre e si possa dire: "L'Eterno degli eserciti, il DIO d'Israele, è veramente DIO per Israele"; e la casa del tuo servo Davide sia resa stabile davanti a te!

And let thy name be established and magnified for ever, saying, Jehovah of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and the house of David thy servant is established before thee.

25 P oiché tu stesso, o mio DIO, hai rivelato al tuo servo che gli avresti costruito una casa. Per questo il tuo servo ha trovato il coraggio di pregare alla tua presenza.

For thou, O my God, hast revealed to thy servant that thou wilt build him a house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray before thee.

26 E ora, o Eterno, tu Sei DIO e hai promesso questo bene al tuo servo.

And now, O Jehovah, thou art God, and hast promised this good thing unto thy servant:

27 P ertanto ti piaccia di benedire la casa del tuo servo, perché sussista per sempre davanti a te, perché ciò che tu benedici, o Eterno, è benedetto per sempre».

and now it hath pleased thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Jehovah, hast blessed, and it is blessed for ever.
