1 W ords of Lemuel a king, a declaration that his mother taught him:

2 ` What, my son? and what, son of my womb? And what, son of my vows?

¿Qué, hijo mío? ¿Y qué, hijo de mis entrañas ? ¿Y qué, hijo de mis votos ?

3 G ive not to women thy strength, And thy ways to wiping away of kings.

No des tu vigor a las mujeres, Ni tus caminos a lo que destruye a los reyes.

4 N ot for kings, O Lemuel, Not for kings, to drink wine, And for princes a desire of strong drink.

No es para los reyes, oh Lemuel, No es para los reyes beber vino, Ni para los gobernantes desear bebida fuerte;

5 L est he drink, and forget the decree, And change the judgment of any of the sons of affliction.

No sea que beban y olviden lo que se ha decretado, Y perviertan los derechos de todos los afligidos.

6 G ive strong drink to the perishing, And wine to the bitter in soul,

Denle bebida fuerte al que está pereciendo, Y vino a los amargados de alma.

7 H e drinketh, and forgetteth his poverty, And his misery he remembereth not again.

Que beba y se olvide de su pobreza, Y no recuerde más su aflicción.

8 O pen thy mouth for the dumb, For the right of all sons of change.

Abre tu boca por los mudos, Por los derechos de todos los desdichados.

9 O pen thy mouth, judge righteously, Both the cause of the poor and needy!'

Abre tu boca, juzga con justicia, Y defiende los derechos del afligido y del necesitado. Elogio de la Mujer Hacendosa

10 A woman of worth who doth find? Yea, far above rubies her price.

Mujer hacendosa, ¿quién la hallará? Su valor supera en mucho al de las joyas.

11 T he heart of her husband hath trusted in her, And spoil he lacketh not.

En ella confía el corazón de su marido, Y no carecerá de ganancias.

12 S he hath done him good, and not evil, All days of her life.

Ella le trae bien y no mal Todos los días de su vida.

13 S he hath sought wool and flax, And with delight she worketh her hands.

Busca lana y lino, Y con agrado trabaja con sus manos.

14 S he hath been as ships of the merchant, From afar she bringeth in her bread.

Es como las naves de mercader, Trae su alimento de lejos.

15 Y ea, she riseth while yet night, And giveth food to her household, And a portion to her damsels.

También se levanta cuando aún es de noche, Y da alimento a los de su casa Y tarea a sus doncellas.

16 S he hath considered a field, and taketh it, From the fruit of her hands she hath planted a vineyard.

Evalúa un campo y lo compra; Con sus ganancias planta una viña.

17 S he hath girded with might her loins, And doth strengthen her arms.

Ella se ciñe de fuerza Y fortalece sus brazos.

18 S he hath perceived when her merchandise good, Her lamp is not extinguished in the night.

Nota que su ganancia es buena, No se apaga de noche su lámpara.

19 H er hands she hath sent forth on a spindle, And her hands have held a distaff.

Extiende sus manos a la rueca, Y sus manos toman el huso.

20 H er hand she hath spread forth to the poor, Yea, her hands she sent forth to the needy.

Extiende su mano al pobre, Y alarga sus manos al necesitado.

21 S he is not afraid of her household from snow, For all her household are clothed scarlet.

No tiene temor de la nieve por los de su casa, Porque todos los de su casa llevan ropa escarlata.

22 O rnamental coverings she hath made for herself, Silk and purple her clothing.

Se hace mantos para sí; Su ropa es de lino fino y de púrpura.

23 K nown in the gates is her husband, In his sitting with elders of the land.

Su marido es conocido en las puertas de la ciudad, Cuando se sienta con los ancianos de la tierra.

24 L inen garments she hath made, and selleth, And a girdle she hath given to the merchant.

Hace telas de lino y las vende, Y provee cinturones a los mercaderes.

25 S trength and honour her clothing, And she rejoiceth at a latter day.

Fuerza y dignidad son su vestidura, Y sonríe al futuro.

26 H er mouth she hath opened in wisdom, And the law of kindness on her tongue.

Abre su boca con sabiduría, Y hay enseñanza de bondad en su lengua.

27 S he watching the ways of her household, And bread of sloth she eateth not.

Ella vigila la marcha de su casa, Y no come el pan de la ociosidad.

28 H er sons have risen up, and pronounce her happy, Her husband, and he praiseth her,

Sus hijos se levantan y la llaman bienaventurada, También su marido, y la alaba diciendo:

29 ` Many the daughters who have done worthily, Thou hast gone up above them all.'

“Muchas mujeres han obrado con nobleza, Pero tú las superas a todas.”

30 T he grace false, and the beauty vain, A woman fearing Jehovah, she may boast herself.

Engañosa es la gracia y vana la belleza, Pero la mujer que teme al Señor, ésa será alabada.

31 G ive ye to her of the fruit of her hands, And her works do praise her in the gates!

Denle el fruto de sus manos, Y que sus obras la alaben en las puertas de la ciudad.
