1 A nd reign doth king Zedekiah son of Josiah instead of Coniah son of Jehoiakim whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had caused to reign in the land of Judah,

Sedequías, hijo de Josías, a quien Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, había hecho rey en la tierra de Judá, reinó en lugar de Conías, hijo de Joacim.

2 a nd he hath not hearkened, he, and his servants, and the people of the land, unto the words of Jehovah, that He spake by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet.

Pero ni él, ni sus siervos, ni el pueblo de la tierra escucharon las palabras que el Señor había hablado por medio del profeta Jeremías.

3 A nd Zedekiah the king sendeth Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying, `Pray, we beseech thee, for us unto Jehovah our God.'

Sin embargo el rey Sedequías envió a Jucal, hijo de Selemías, y al sacerdote Sofonías, hijo de Maasías, a decir al profeta Jeremías: “Ruega ahora por nosotros al Señor nuestro Dios.”

4 A nd Jeremiah is coming in and going out in the midst of the people, (and they have not put him in the prison-house),

Y Jeremías entraba y salía en medio del pueblo, porque todavía no lo habían puesto en la cárcel.

5 a nd the force of Pharaoh hath come out of Egypt, and the Chaldeans, who are laying siege against Jerusalem, hear their report, and go up from off Jerusalem.

Entretanto, el ejército de Faraón había salido de Egipto, y cuando los Caldeos que tenían sitiada a Jerusalén oyeron la noticia acerca de ellos, levantaron el sitio de Jerusalén.

6 A nd there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying:

Entonces vino la palabra del Señor al profeta Jeremías:

7 ` Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Thus do ye say unto the king of Judah, who is sending you unto Me, to seek Me: Lo, the force of Pharaoh that is coming out to you for help hath turned back to its land, to Egypt,

“Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: ‘Así dirán al rey de Judá, que los envió a Mí para consultarme: “El ejército de Faraón que salió para ayudarles a ustedes, volverá a su tierra de Egipto.

8 a nd the Chaldeans have turned back, and fought against this city, and captured it, and burnt it with fire.

Y los Caldeos volverán y pelearán contra esta ciudad, la capturarán y le prenderán fuego.”’

9 ` Thus said Jehovah: Lift not up your souls saying, The Chaldeans surely go from off us, for they do not go;

“Así dice el Señor: ‘No se engañen, diciendo: “Ciertamente los Caldeos se apartarán de nosotros,” porque no se apartarán.

10 f or though ye had smitten all the force of the Chaldeans who are fighting with you, and there were left of them wounded men -- each in his tent -- they rise, and have burnt this city with fire.'

Pues aunque ustedes hubieran derrotado a todo el ejército de los Caldeos que peleaba contra ustedes, y sólo quedaran heridos entre ellos, se levantaría cada uno en su tienda, y prenderían fuego a esta ciudad.’”

11 A nd it hath come to pass, in the going up of the force of the Chaldeans from off Jerusalem, because of the force of Pharaoh,

Y cuando el ejército de los Caldeos levantó el sitio de Jerusalén por causa del ejército de Faraón,

12 t hat Jeremiah goeth out from Jerusalem to go the land of Benjamin, to receive a portion thence in the midst of the people.

Jeremías trató de salir de Jerusalén para ir a la tierra de Benjamín a tomar allí posesión de una propiedad en el pueblo.

13 A nd it cometh to pass, he is at the gate of Benjamin, and there a master of the ward -- and his name is Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah -- and he catcheth Jeremiah the prophet, saying, `Unto the Chaldeans thou art falling.'

Estando él a la Puerta de Benjamín, había allí un capitán de la guardia que se llamaba Irías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Hananías, el cual apresó al profeta Jeremías, diciéndole: “Tú vas a pasarte a los Caldeos.”

14 A nd Jeremiah saith, `Falsehood -- I am not falling unto the Chaldeans;' and he hath not hearkened unto him, and Irijah layeth hold on Jeremiah, and bringeth him in unto the heads,

Pero Jeremías dijo: “¡No es verdad! No voy a pasarme a los Caldeos.” Sin embargo él no le hizo caso. Apresó, pues, a Jeremías y lo llevó a los oficiales.

15 a nd the heads are wroth against Jeremiah, and have smitten him, and put him in the prison-house -- the house of Jonathan the scribe, for it they had made for a prison-house.

Entonces los oficiales se enojaron contra Jeremías y lo azotaron, y lo encarcelaron en la casa del escriba Jonatán, la cual habían convertido en prisión.

16 W hen Jeremiah hath entered into the house of the dungeon, and unto the cells, then Jeremiah dwelleth there many days,

Entró, pues, Jeremías en el calabozo, es decir, en la celda abovedada; y allí permaneció Jeremías muchos días.

17 a nd the king Zedekiah sendeth, and taketh him, and the king asketh him in his house in secret, and saith, `Is there a word from Jehovah?' And Jeremiah saith, `There is,' and he saith, `Into the hand of the king of Babylon thou art given.'

El rey Sedequías envió a sacarlo, y en su palacio el rey le preguntó secretamente, y le dijo: “¿Hay palabra del Señor ?” “La hay,” respondió Jeremías. Y añadió: “En manos del rey de Babilonia será entregado.”

18 A nd Jeremiah saith unto the king Zedekiah, `What have I sinned against thee, and against thy servants, and against this people, that ye have given me unto a prison-house?

Dijo también Jeremías al rey Sedequías: “¿ En qué he pecado contra usted, o contra sus siervos, o contra este pueblo para que me haya puesto en prisión?

19 A nd where your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon doth not come in against you, and against this land?

¿Dónde, pues, están sus profetas que les profetizaban: ‘El rey de Babilonia no vendrá contra ustedes ni contra esta tierra’?

20 A nd now, hearken, I pray thee, my lord, O king, let my supplication fall, I pray thee, before thee, and cause me not to return the house of Jonathan the scribe, that I die not there.'

Pero ahora, le ruego que escuche, oh rey mi señor; venga ahora mi súplica delante de usted, y no me haga volver a la casa del escriba Jonatán, no sea que yo muera allí.”

21 A nd the king Zedekiah commandeth, and they commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, also to give to him a cake of bread daily from the bakers' street, till the consumption of all the bread of the city, and Jeremiah dwelleth in the court of the prison.

Entonces el rey Sedequías ordenó que pusieran a Jeremías en el patio de la guardia y le dieran una torta de pan al día de la calle de los panaderos, hasta que se acabara todo el pan en la ciudad. Así que Jeremías permaneció en el patio de la guardia.
