1 Y vino a mí la palabra del Señor, diciendo:

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

2 V e y clama a los oídos de Jerusalén, diciendo: “Así dice el Señor: ‘De ti recuerdo el cariño de tu juventud, el amor de tu desposorio, de cuando me seguías en el desierto, por tierra no sembrada.

Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus says the Lord: I remember the kindness and devotion of your youth, your love after your betrothal and marriage when you followed Me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.

3 ‘ Santo era Israel para el Señor, primicias de su cosecha; todos los que comían de ella se hacían culpables; el mal venía sobre ellos’ —declara el Señor.”

Israel was holiness to the Lord, the firstfruits of His harvest; all who ate of it offended and became guilty; evil came upon them, says the Lord.

4 O íd la palabra del Señor, casa de Jacob, y todas las familias de la casa de Israel.

Hear the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel.

5 A sí dice el Señor: ¿Qué injusticia hallaron en mí vuestros padres, para que se alejaran de mí y anduvieran tras lo vano y se hicieran vanos ?

Thus says the Lord: What unrighteousness did your fathers find in Me, that they went far from Me and went after emptiness, falseness, and futility and themselves became fruitless and worthless?

6 T ampoco dijeron: ¿Dónde está el Señor que nos hizo subir de la tierra de Egipto, que nos condujo por el desierto, por una tierra de yermos y de barrancos, por una tierra seca y tenebrosa, una tierra por la que nadie pasó y donde ningún hombre habitó?

Nor did they say, Where is the Lord, Who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, Who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death and deep darkness, through a land that no man passes through and where no man dwells?

7 Y o os traje a una tierra fértil, para que comierais de su fruto y de sus delicias; pero vinisteis y contaminasteis mi tierra, y de mi heredad hicisteis abominación.

And I brought you into a plentiful land to enjoy its fruits and good things. But when you entered, you defiled My land and made My heritage an abomination.

8 L os sacerdotes no dijeron: “¿Dónde está el Señor ?” Los que se ocupaban de la ley no me conocieron, los gobernantes se rebelaron contra mí, y los profetas profetizaban por Baal, y andaban tras cosas que no aprovechan.

the priests did not say, Where is the Lord? And those who handle the law knew Me not. The rulers and secular shepherds also transgressed against Me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal and followed after things that do not profit.

9 P or tanto, aún contenderé con vosotros —declara el Señor — y con los hijos de vuestros hijos contenderé.

Therefore I will still contend with you, says the Lord, and with your children’s children will I contend.

10 P asad, pues, a las islas de Quitim y ved, enviad gente a Cedar y observad atentamente, y ved si ha habido cosa semejante:

For cross over to the coasts of Cyprus and see, send also to Kedar and carefully consider; and see whether there has been such a thing as this:

11 ¿ Ha cambiado alguna nación sus dioses, aunque ésos no son dioses ? Pues mi pueblo ha cambiado su gloria por lo que no aprovecha.

Has a nation changed its gods, even though they are not gods? But My people have changed their Glory for that which does not profit.

12 E spantaos, oh cielos, por esto, y temblad, quedad en extremo desolados —declara el Señor.

Be astonished and appalled, O heavens, at this; be shocked and shrivel up with horror, says the Lord.

13 P orque dos males ha hecho mi pueblo: me han abandonado a mí, fuente de aguas vivas, y han cavado para sí cisternas, cisternas agrietadas que no retienen el agua.

For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, and they have hewn for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns which cannot hold water.

14 ¿ Es un esclavo Israel o un siervo nacido en casa ? ¿Por qué se ha convertido en presa?

Is Israel a servant? Is he a homeborn slave? Why has he become a captive and a prey?

15 C ontra él rugieron los leoncillos, rugieron fuertemente, y han hecho de su tierra una desolación; sus ciudades están quemadas, sin habitantes.

The young lions have roared over him and made their voices heard. And they have made his land a waste; his cities are burned ruins without inhabitant.

16 I ncluso los hombres de Menfis y de Tafnes te han afeitado la coronilla.

Moreover, the children of Memphis and Tahpanhes (Egypt) have broken and fed on the crown of your head —so do not rely on them as an ally now.

17 ¿ No te ha sucedido esto por haber dejado al Señor tu Dios, cuando El te guiaba por el camino?

Have you not brought this upon yourself by forsaking the Lord your God when He led you in the way?

18 Y ahora, ¿qué haces en el camino a Egipto para beber las aguas del Nilo ? ¿O qué haces en el camino a Asiria para beber las aguas del Eufrates ?

And now what have you to gain by allying yourself with Egypt and going her way, to drink the waters of the Nile? Or what have you to gain in going the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the Euphrates?

19 T e castigará tu propia maldad, y tus apostasías te condenarán. Reconoce, pues, y ve que es malo y amargo el dejar al Señor tu Dios, y no tener temor de mí —declara el Señor, Dios de los ejércitos.

Your own wickedness shall chasten and correct you, and your backslidings and desertion of faith shall reprove you. Know therefore and recognize that this is an evil and bitter thing: you have forsaken the Lord your God; you are indifferent to Me and the fear of Me is not in you, says the Lord of hosts.

20 P orque desde hace tiempo rompí tu yugo y arranqué tus coyundas; pero dijiste: “No serviré.” Porque sobre toda colina alta y bajo todo árbol frondoso te echabas como ramera.

For long ago I broke your yoke and burst your bonds and long ago you shattered the yoke and snapped the bonds; you said, I will not serve and obey You! For upon every high hill and under every green tree you prostrated yourself, playing the harlot.

21 P ero yo te planté como vid escogida, toda ella de simiente genuina. ¿Cómo, pues, te has vuelto delante de mí sarmiento degenerado de una vid extraña ?

Yet I had planted you a choice vine, wholly of pure seed. How then have you turned into degenerate shoots of wild vine alien to Me?

22 A unque te laves con soda y uses mucho jabón, la mancha de tu iniquidad está aún delante de mí —declara el Señor Dios.

For though you wash yourself with lye and use much soap, yet your iniquity and guilt are still spotted, dirty, and stained before Me, says the Lord.

23 ¿ Cómo puedes decir: “No estoy manchada, no he ido tras los baales ”? Mira tu proceder en el valle, reconoce lo que has hecho. Eres una camella joven y liviana que enreda sus pasos,

How can you say, I am not defiled; I have not gone after the Baals ? Look at your way in the valley; know what you have done. You are a restive young female camel running hither and thither,

24 a sna montés acostumbrada al desierto, que en su ardor olfatea el viento. En la época de su celo ¿quién la puede refrenar ? Todos los que la busquen, no se tienen que fatigar, en su mes la hallarán.

Or a wild donkey used to the desert, in her heat sniffing the wind. In her mating season who can restrain her? No males seeking her need weary themselves; in her month they will find her.

25 G uarda tus pies de andar descalzos y tu garganta de la sed. Mas dijiste: “Es en vano. ¡No! Porque amo a los extraños, y tras ellos andaré.”

Keep your feet from being unshod and your throat from thirst. But you said, It is hopeless! For I have loved strangers and foreigners, and after them I will go.

26 C omo se avergüenza el ladrón cuando es descubierto, así se ha avergonzado la casa de Israel: ellos, sus reyes, sus príncipes, sus sacerdotes y sus profetas;

As the thief is brought to shame when he is caught, so shall the house of Israel be brought to shame—they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets—

27 l os que dicen al leño: “Mi padre eres tú”, y a la piedra: “Tú me engendraste.” Porque ellos me han vuelto las espaldas, y no el rostro; pero en el tiempo de su calamidad dirán: “Levántate y sálvanos.”

they say to a tree, You are my father, and to a stone, You gave me birth. For they have turned their backs to Me and not their faces; but in the time of their trouble, they say, Arise and save us!

28 M as ¿dónde están tus dioses, los que hiciste para ti ? Que se levanten, a ver si pueden salvarte en el tiempo de tu calamidad; porque según el número de tus ciudades son tus dioses, oh Judá.

But where are your gods that you made for yourself? Let them arise if they can save you in the time of your trouble! For the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah.

29 ¿ Por qué contendéis conmigo? Todos vosotros os habéis rebelado contra mí —declara el Señor.

Why do you complain and remonstrate against My wrath? You all have rebelled and revolted against Me, says the Lord.

30 E n vano he herido a vuestros hijos, no han aceptado corrección. Vuestra espada ha devorado a vuestros profetas como león destructor.

In vain have I stricken your children (your people); they received no discipline (no correction). Your own sword devoured your prophets like a destroying lion.

31 ¡ Oh generación, atended a la palabra del Señor! ¿He sido yo un desierto para Israel, o una tierra de densa oscuridad ? ¿Por qué dice mi pueblo: “Vaguemos libremente; no vendremos más a ti ”?

O generation! Behold, consider, and regard the word of the Lord: Have I been a wilderness to Israel ? A land of deep darkness ? Why do My people say, We have broken loose; we will come no more to You?

32 ¿ Se olvida una virgen de sus adornos, o una novia de su atavío ? Pues mi pueblo me ha olvidado por innumerables días.

Can a maid forget and neglect her ornaments, or a bride her girdle ? Yet My people have forgotten Me, days without number.

33 ¡ Qué bien preparas tu camino para buscar amor! Por eso aun a las malvadas has enseñado tus caminos.

How you deck yourself and direct your way to procure love! Because of it even wicked women have learned ways from you.

34 T ambién en tus faldas se halla sangre de la vida de pobres inocentes; no los encontraste forzando la entrada. Pero a pesar de todo esto,

Also on your skirts is found the lifeblood of the persons of the innocent poor; you did not find them housebreaking, nor have I found it out by secret search. But it is because of all these things—

35 a ún dices: “Soy inocente, ciertamente su ira se ha apartado de mí.” He aquí, entraré en juicio contigo porque dices: “No he pecado.”

Yet you keep saying, I am innocent; surely His anger has turned away from Me. Behold, I will bring you to judgment and will plead against you because you say, I have not sinned.

36 ¿ Por qué das tantas vueltas cambiando tu camino ? También por Egipto serás avergonzada como fuiste avergonzada por Asiria.

Why do you gad or wander about so much to change your way? You shall be put to shame by Egypt as you were put to shame by Assyria.

37 T ambién de allí saldrás con las manos en la cabeza; porque el Señor ha desechado a aquellos en quienes confías, y no prosperarás con ellos.

From also you will come away with your hands upon your head, for the Lord has rejected those in whom you confide, and you will not prosper with them.
