1 L lama ahora, ¿habrá quién te responda? ¿Y a cuál de los santos te volverás?

Call now—is there any who will answer you? And to which of the holy will you turn?

2 P orque el enojo mata al insensato, y la ira da muerte al necio.

For vexation and rage kill the foolish man; jealousy and indignation slay the simple.

3 Y o he visto al insensato echar raíces, y al instante maldije su morada.

I have seen the foolish taking root, but suddenly I saw that his dwelling was cursed.

4 S us hijos no tienen seguridad alguna, aun en la puerta son oprimidos, y no hay quien los libre.

His children are far from safety; they are crushed in the gate, and there is no one to deliver them.

5 S u cosecha devoran los hambrientos, la toman aun de entre los espinos, y el intrigante ansía su riqueza.

His harvest the hungry eat and take it even among the thorns; the snare opens for wealth.

6 P orque la aflicción no viene del polvo, ni brota el infortunio de la tierra;

For affliction comes not forth from the dust, neither does trouble spring forth out of the ground.

7 p orque el hombre nace para la aflicción, como las chispas vuelan hacia arriba.

But man is born to trouble as the sparks and the flames fly upward.

8 P ero yo buscaría a Dios, y delante de Dios presentaría mi causa;

As for me, I would seek God and inquire of and require Him, and to God would I commit my cause—

9 E l hace cosas grandes e inescrutables, maravillas sin número.

Who does great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number,

10 E l da la lluvia sobre la faz de la tierra, y envía las aguas sobre los campos.

Who gives rain upon the earth and sends waters upon the fields,

11 P ara poner en alto a los humildes, y a los que lloran levantarlos a lugar seguro,

So that He sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn He lifts to safety.

12 E l frustra las tramas de los astutos, para que sus manos no tengan éxito.

He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise or anything of worth.

13 E l prende a los sabios en su propia astucia, y el consejo de los sagaces pronto se frustra.

He catches the wise in their own trickiness, and the counsel of the schemers is brought to a quick end.

14 D e día tropiezan con las tinieblas, y a mediodía andan a tientas como de noche.

In the daytime they meet in darkness, and at noon they grope as in the night.

15 P ero El salva al pobre de la espada, de sus bocas y de la mano del poderoso.

But saves from the sword of their mouth, and the needy from the hand of the mighty.

16 E l desamparado, pues, tiene esperanza, y la injusticia tiene que cerrar su boca.

So the poor have hope, and iniquity shuts her mouth.

17 H e aquí, cuán bienaventurado es el hombre a quien Dios reprende; no desprecies, pues, la disciplina del Todopoderoso.

Happy and fortunate is the man whom God reproves; so do not despise or reject the correction of the Almighty.

18 P orque El inflige dolor, pero da alivio; El hiere, pero sus manos también sanan.

For He wounds, but He binds up; He smites, but His hands heal.

19 D e seis aflicciones te librará, y en siete no te tocará el mal.

He will rescue you in six troubles; in seven nothing that is evil will touch you.

20 E n el hambre te salvará de la muerte, y en la guerra del poder de la espada.

In famine He will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword.

21 E starás a cubierto del azote de la lengua, y no temerás la violencia cuando venga.

You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, neither shall you be afraid of destruction when it comes.

22 D e la violencia y del hambre te reirás, y no temerás a las fieras de la tierra.

At destruction and famine you shall laugh, neither shall you be afraid of the living creatures of the earth.

23 P ues con las piedras del campo harás tu alianza, y las fieras del campo estarán en paz contigo.

For you shall be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.

24 Y sabrás que tu tienda está segura, porque visitarás tu morada y no temerás pérdida alguna.

And you shall know that your tent shall be in peace, and you shall visit your fold and your dwelling and miss nothing.

25 T ambién sabrás que tu descendencia será numerosa, y tus vástagos como la hierba de la tierra.

You shall know also that your children shall be many, and your offspring as the grass of the earth.

26 E n pleno vigor llegarás al sepulcro, como se hacinan las gavillas a su tiempo.

You shall come to your grave in ripe old age, and as a shock of grain goes up in its season.

27 H e aquí, esto lo hemos examinado, y así es; óyelo, y conóce lo para tu bien.

This is what we have searched out; it is true. Hear and heed it and know for yourself.
