1 M eglio un povero che cammina nella sua integrità, che chi è perverso di labbra e anche stolto.

Better the poor walking in his integrity, Than the perverse his lips, who a fool.

2 L o zelo senza conoscenza non è cosa buona; chi cammina in fretta sbaglia strada.

Also, without knowledge the soul not good, And the hasty in feet is sinning.

3 L a stoltezza dell’uomo ne perverte la via, ma il suo cuore si irrita contro il Signore.

The folly of man perverteth his way, And against Jehovah is his heart wroth.

4 L e ricchezze procurano gran numero di amici, ma il povero è abbandonato anche dal suo compagno.

Wealth addeth many friends, And the poor from his neighbour is separated.

5 I l falso testimone non rimarrà impunito, chi spaccia menzogne non avrà scampo.

A false witness is not acquitted, Whoso breatheth out lies is not delivered.

6 M olti corteggiano l’uomo generoso, tutti sono amici dell’uomo che offre regali.

Many entreat the face of the noble, And all have made friendship to a man of gifts.

7 T utti i fratelli del povero lo odiano; quanto più gli amici suoi si allontaneranno da lui! Egli li supplica con parole, ma già sono scomparsi.

All the brethren of the poor have hated him, Surely also his friends have been far from him, He is pursuing words -- they are not!

8 C hi acquista senno ama se stesso, e chi serba con cura l’intelligenza troverà del bene.

Whoso is getting heart is loving his soul, He is keeping understanding to find good.

9 I l falso testimone non rimarrà impunito, e chi spaccia menzogne perirà.

A false witness is not acquitted, And whoso breatheth out lies perisheth.

10 V ivere nel lusso non s’addice allo stolto; quanto meno si addice allo schiavo dominare sui prìncipi!

Luxury is not comely for a fool, Much less for a servant to rule among princes.

11 I l senno rende l’uomo lento all’ira ed egli considera un suo onore passare sopra le offese.

The wisdom of a man hath deferred his anger, And his glory to pass over transgression.

12 L ’ira del re è come il ruggito di un leone, ma il suo favore è come rugiada sull’erba.

The wrath of a king a growl as of a young lion, And as dew on the herb his good-will.

13 U n figlio stolto è una grande sciagura per suo padre, e le risse di una moglie sono il gocciolare continuo di un tetto.

A calamity to his father a foolish son, And the contentions of a wife a continual dropping.

14 C asa e ricchezze sono un’eredità dei padri, ma una moglie giudiziosa è un dono del Signore.

House and wealth the inheritance of fathers, And from Jehovah an understanding wife.

15 L a pigrizia fa cadere nel torpore, e la persona indolente patirà la fame.

Sloth causeth deep sleep to fall, And an indolent soul doth hunger.

16 C hi osserva il precetto preserva la sua vita, ma chi non si dà pensiero della propria condotta morrà.

Whoso is keeping the command is keeping his soul, Whoso is despising His ways dieth.

17 C hi ha pietà del povero presta al Signore, che gli contraccambierà l’opera buona.

Whoso is lending Jehovah is favouring the poor, And his deed He repayeth to him.

18 C astiga tuo figlio mentre c’è ancora speranza, ma non lasciarti andare sino a farlo morire.

Chastise thy son, for there is hope, And to put him to death lift not up thy soul.

19 L ’uomo dalla collera violenta deve essere punito, perché, se lo liberi, dovrai tornare daccapo.

A man of great wrath is bearing punishment, For, if thou dost deliver, yet again thou dost add.

20 A scolta il consiglio e ricevi l’istruzione, affinché tu diventi saggio per il resto della vita.

Hear counsel and receive instruction, So that thou art wise in thy latter end.

21 C i sono molti disegni nel cuore dell’uomo, ma il piano del Signore è quello che sussiste.

Many the purposes in a man's heart, And the counsel of Jehovah it standeth.

22 C iò che rende caro l’uomo è la bontà, e un povero vale più di un bugiardo.

The desirableness of a man his kindness, And better the poor than a liar.

23 I l timore del Signore conduce alla vita; chi l’ha si sazia e passa la notte senza essere visitato dal male.

The fear of Jehovah to life, And satisfied he remaineth -- he is not charged with evil.

24 I l pigro tuffa la mano nel piatto e non fa neppure tanto da portarla alla bocca.

The slothful hath hidden his hand in a dish, Even unto his mouth he bringeth it not back.

25 P ercuoti il beffardo, e l’ingenuo diventerà prudente; riprendi l’intelligente e imparerà la scienza.

A scorner smite, and the simple acts prudently, And give reproof to the intelligent, He understandeth knowledge.

26 I l figlio che fa vergogna e disonore rovina suo padre e scaccia sua madre.

Whoso is spoiling a father causeth a mother to flee, A son causing shame, and bringing confusion.

27 C essa, figlio mio, d’ascoltare l’istruzione, se ti vuoi allontanare dalle parole della scienza.

Cease, my son, to hear instruction -- To err from sayings of knowledge.

28 I l testimone iniquo si burla della giustizia, e la bocca degli empi trangugia l’iniquità.

A worthless witness scorneth judgment, And the mouth of the wicked swalloweth iniquity.

29 I giudici sono stabiliti per i beffardi, e le percosse per il dorso degli stolti.

Judgments have been prepared for scorners, And stripes for the back of fools!
