1 B ehold, Jehovah maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

He aquí que Jehová devasta la tierra y la arrasa, trastorna su faz y hace esparcir a sus moradores.

2 A nd it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the creditor, so with the debtor; as with the taker of interest, so with the giver of interest to him.

Y sucederá, como al pueblo, así también al sacerdote; como al esclavo, así a su amo; como a la criada, a su ama; como al que compra, al que vende; como al que presta, al que toma prestado; como al acreedor, así también al deudor.

3 T he earth shall be utterly emptied, and utterly laid waste; for Jehovah hath spoken this word.

La tierra será totalmente devastada y completamente saqueada, porque Jehová ha pronunciado esta palabra.

4 T he earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the lofty people of the earth do languish.

Se destruyó, cayó la tierra; enfermó, cayó el mundo; enfermaron los altos pueblos de la tierra.

5 T he earth also is polluted under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant.

Y la tierra fue profanada por sus moradores, porque traspasaron las leyes, falsearon el derecho, quebrantaron el pacto eterno.

6 T herefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are found guilty: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

Por esta causa la maldición consumió la tierra y sus moradores fueron asolados; por esta causa fueron consumidos los habitantes de la tierra y disminuyó la población.

7 T he new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merry-hearted do sigh.

Se perdió el vino, enfermó la vid, gimieron todos los que eran alegres de corazón.

8 T he mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.

Cesó el regocijo de los panderos, se acabó el estruendo de los que se alegran, cesó la alegría del arpa.

9 T hey shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.

No beberán vino con canción; la sidra les será amarga a los que la beben.

10 T he waste city is broken down; every house is shut up, that no man may come in.

Quebrantada está la ciudad a causa del desastre. Toda casa se ha cerrado, para que no entre nadie.

11 T here is a crying in the streets because of the wine; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

Hay clamores en las calles por falta de vino; todo gozo se ha apagado, la alegría se desterró de la tierra.

12 I n the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

La ciudad quedó desolada y con ruina fue destrozada la puerta.

13 F or thus shall it be in the midst of the earth among the peoples, as the shaking of an olive-tree, as the gleanings when the vintage is done.

Porque así será en medio de la tierra, en medio de los pueblos, como un olivo sacudido, como rebuscos después de la vendimia.

14 T hese shall lift up their voice, they shall shout; for the majesty of Jehovah they cry aloud from the sea.

Estos alzarán su voz, cantarán gozosos por la grandeza de Jehová; desde el mar darán voces.

15 W herefore glorify ye Jehovah in the east, even the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel, in the isles of the sea.

Glorificad por esto a Jehová en los valles; en las costas del mar sea nombrado Jehová, Dios de Israel.

16 F rom the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs: Glory to the righteous. But I said, I pine away, I pine away, woe is me! the treacherous have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous have dealt very treacherously.

De los extremos de la tierra oímos cánticos: «¡Gloria al justo!» Y yo dije: «¡Mi desdicha, mi desdicha, ay de mí!» Traidores han traicionado, y han traicionado con traición de desleales.

17 F ear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.

¡Terror, foso y red sobre ti, morador de la tierra!

18 A nd it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows on high are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble.

Y acontecerá que el que huya de la voz del terror caerá en el foso; y el que salga de en medio del foso será atrapado en la red; porque de lo alto se abrirán ventanas y temblarán los cimientos de la tierra.

19 T he earth is utterly broken, the earth is rent asunder, the earth is shaken violently.

Será destruida del todo la tierra, enteramente desmenuzada será la tierra, en gran manera será la tierra conmovida.

20 T he earth shall stagger like a drunken man, and shall sway to and fro like a hammock; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it, and it shall fall, and not rise again.

Temblará la tierra como un ebrio y será removida como una choza, y tanto pesará sobre ella su pecado, que nunca más se levantará.

21 A nd it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah will punish the host of the high ones on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.

Acontecerá en aquel día, que Jehová castigará al ejército de los cielos en lo alto y a los reyes de la tierra sobre la tierra.

22 A nd they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison; and after many days shall they be visited.

Serán amontonados como se amontona a los encarcelados en una mazmorra, y en prisión quedarán encerrados. Y al cabo de muchos días serán castigados.

23 T hen the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed; for Jehovah of hosts will reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem; and before his elders shall be glory.

La luna se avergonzará y el sol se confundirá, cuando Jehová de los ejércitos reine en el monte Sión, en Jerusalén, y brille su gloria delante de sus ancianos.
