1 I n the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.

En el año veintitrés de Joás hijo de Ocozías, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar sobre Israel en Samaria Joacaz hijo de Jehú. Reinó diecisiete años,

2 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

pero hizo lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová, pues siguió en los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel; y no se apartó de ellos.

3 A nd the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, continually.

Por lo tanto se encendió el furor de Jehová contra Israel, y por largo tiempo los entregó en manos de Hazael, rey de Siria, y en manos de Ben-adad hijo de Hazael.

4 A nd Jehoahaz besought Jehovah, and Jehovah hearkened unto him; for he saw the oppression of Israel, how that the king of Syria oppressed them.

Pero Joacaz oró en presencia de Jehová, y Jehová lo escuchó, porque había visto la aflicción de Israel, pues el rey de Siria los afligía.

5 ( And Jehovah gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians; and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents as beforetime.

(Y dio Jehová un salvador a Israel que los sacó del poder de los sirios, y habitaron los hijos de Israel en sus tiendas, como antes.

6 N evertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, wherewith he made Israel to sin, but walked therein: and there remained the Asherah also in Samaria.)

Con todo, no se apartaron de los pecados de la casa de Jeroboam, el que hizo pecar a Israel; en ellos anduvieron, y también la imagen de Asera permaneció en Samaria.)

7 F or he left not to Jehoahaz of the people save fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria destroyed them, and made them like the dust in threshing.

A Joacaz no le había quedado gente, sino cincuenta hombres de a caballo, diez carros y diez mil hombres de a pie, pues el rey de Siria los había destruido y los había reducido a polvo del que se pisotea.

8 N ow the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

El resto de los hechos de Joacaz, todo lo que hizo y sus hazañas, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

9 A nd Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.

Joacaz durmió con sus padres y lo sepultaron en Samaria. En su lugar reinó Joás, su hijo. Reinado de Joás de Israel

10 I n the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.

El año treinta y siete de Joás, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar en Samaria sobre Israel Joás hijo de Joacaz. Reinó dieciséis años,

11 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin; but he walked therein.

pero hizo lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová: no se apartó de todos los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel, sino que anduvo en ellos.

12 N ow the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Los demás hechos de Joás, todo lo que hizo y la manera esforzada con que guerreó contra Amasías, rey de Judá, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

13 A nd Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

Joás durmió con sus padres y Jeroboam se sentó sobre su trono. Joás fue sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel. Profecía final y muerte de Eliseo

14 N ow Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died: and Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over him, and said, My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and the horsemen thereof!

Estaba Eliseo enfermo de la enfermedad que lo llevaría a la muerte, cuando descendió a verlo Joás, rey de Israel, y llorando delante de él, dijo: —¡Padre mío, padre mío, carro de Israel y su caballería!

15 A nd Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows; and he took unto him bow and arrows.

Eliseo le dijo: —Toma un arco y unas flechas. Tomó él entonces un arco y unas flechas.

16 A nd he said to the king of Israel, Put thy hand upon the bow; and he put his hand upon it. And Elisha laid his hands upon the king's hands.

Luego dijo Eliseo al rey de Israel: —Pon tu mano sobre el arco. Y puso él su mano sobre el arco. Entonces puso Eliseo sus manos sobre las manos del rey

17 A nd he said, Open the window eastward; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot; and he shot. And he said, Jehovah's arrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Syria; for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.

y dijo: —Abre la ventana que da al oriente. Cuando él la abrió, le dijo Eliseo: —Tira. Él lo hizo y Eliseo dijo: —Flecha de salvación de Jehová y flecha de salvación contra Siria. Tú herirás a los sirios en Afec hasta exterminarlos.

18 A nd he said, Take the arrows; and he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground; and he smote thrice, and stayed.

Después volvió a decir: —Toma las flechas. Luego que el rey de Israel las tomó, le ordenó: —Golpea la tierra. Él la golpeó tres veces y se detuvo.

19 A nd the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times: then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it, whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.

Entonces el varón de Dios, enojado contra él, le dijo: —De dar cinco o seis golpes, habrías derrotado a Siria hasta no quedar ninguno, pero ahora derrotarás a Siria sólo tres veces.

20 A nd Elisha died, and they buried him. Now the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.

Eliseo murió y lo sepultaron. Ya entrado el año, vinieron bandas armadas de moabitas a la tierra.

21 A nd it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

Aconteció que estaban unos sepultando a un hombre cuando súbitamente vieron una banda armada; entonces arrojaron el cadáver en el sepulcro de Eliseo. Pero tan pronto tocó el muerto los huesos de Eliseo, revivió y se puso en pie.

22 A nd Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

Así pues, Hazael, rey de Siria, afligió a Israel todo el tiempo de Joacaz.

23 B ut Jehovah was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.

Pero Jehová tuvo misericordia y se compadeció de ellos; se volvió hacia ellos a causa de su pacto con Abraham, Isaac y Jacob, y no quiso destruirlos ni echarlos de delante de su presencia hasta hoy.

24 A nd Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his stead.

Murió Hazael, rey de Siria, y reinó en su lugar Ben-adad, su hijo.

25 A nd Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash smite him, and recovered the cities of Israel.

Regresó Joás hijo de Joacaz y rescató de manos de Ben-adad hijo de Hazael las ciudades que éste había tomado de manos de Joacaz, su padre, en la guerra. Tres veces lo derrotó Joás, y restituyó las ciudades a Israel.
