1 P rocuren alcanzar el amor; pero también deseen ardientemente los dones espirituales, sobre todo que profeticen.

Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

2 P orque el que habla en lenguas no habla a los hombres, sino a Dios, pues nadie lo entiende, sino que en su espíritu habla misterios.

For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.

3 P ero el que profetiza habla a los hombres para edificación, exhortación y consolación.

But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.

4 E l que habla en lenguas, a sí mismo se edifica, pero el que profetiza edifica a la iglesia.

One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church.

5 Y o quisiera que todos hablaran en lenguas, pero aún más, que profetizaran. Porque el que profetiza es superior al que habla en lenguas, a menos de que las interprete para que la iglesia reciba edificación.

Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying.

6 A hora bien, hermanos, si yo voy a ustedes hablando en lenguas, ¿de qué provecho les seré a menos de que les hable por medio de revelación, o de conocimiento, o de profecía, o de enseñanza ?

But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you unless I speak to you either by way of revelation or of knowledge or of prophecy or of teaching?

7 A un las cosas inanimadas, como la flauta o el arpa, al producir un sonido, si no dan con distinción los sonidos, ¿cómo se sabrá lo que se toca en la flauta o en el arpa?

Yet even lifeless things, either flute or harp, in producing a sound, if they do not produce a distinction in the tones, how will it be known what is played on the flute or on the harp?

8 P orque si la trompeta da un sonido incierto, ¿quién se preparará para la batalla ?

For if the bugle produces an indistinct sound, who will prepare himself for battle?

9 A sí también ustedes, a menos de que con la boca pronuncien palabras inteligibles, ¿cómo se sabrá lo que dicen ? Pues hablarán al aire.

So also you, unless you utter by the tongue speech that is clear, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air.

10 H ay, quizás, muchas variedades de idiomas en el mundo, y ninguno carece de significado.

There are, perhaps, a great many kinds of languages in the world, and no kind is without meaning.

11 P ues si yo no sé el significado de las palabras, seré para el que habla un extranjero, y el que habla será un extranjero para mí.

If then I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be to the one who speaks a barbarian, and the one who speaks will be a barbarian to me.

12 A sí también ustedes, puesto que anhelan dones espirituales, procuren abundar en ellos para la edificación de la iglesia.

So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek to abound for the edification of the church.

13 P or tanto, el que habla en lenguas, pida en oración para que pueda interpretar.

Therefore let one who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.

14 P orque si yo oro en lenguas, mi espíritu ora, pero mi entendimiento queda sin fruto.

For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

15 E ntonces ¿qué ? Oraré con el espíritu, pero también oraré con el entendimiento. Cantaré con el espíritu, pero también cantaré con el entendimiento.

What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also.

16 D e otra manera, si bendices sólo en el espíritu, ¿cómo dirá el “Amén ” a tu acción de gracias el que ocupa el lugar del que no tiene ese don, puesto que no sabe lo que dices?

Otherwise if you bless in the spirit only, how will the one who fills the place of the ungifted say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying?

17 P orque tú, bien das gracias, pero el otro no es edificado.

For you are giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not edified.

18 D oy gracias a Dios porque hablo en lenguas más que todos ustedes.

I thank God, I speak in tongues more than you all;

19 S in embargo, en la iglesia prefiero (deseo) hablar cinco palabras con mi entendimiento, para instruir también a otros, antes que diez mil palabras en lenguas.

however, in the church I desire to speak five words with my mind so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue. Instruction for the Church

20 H ermanos, no sean niños en la manera de pensar. Más bien, sean niños en la malicia, pero en la manera de pensar sean maduros.

Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature.

21 E n la Ley está escrito: “ Por hombres de lenguas extrañas y por boca de extraños hablare a este pueblo, y ni aun asi Me escucharan,” dice el Señor.

In the Law it is written, “ By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people, and even so they will not listen to Me,” says the Lord.

22 A sí que las lenguas son una señal, no para los que creen, sino para los incrédulos; pero la profecía es una señal, no para los incrédulos, sino para los creyentes.

So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers but to those who believe.

23 P or tanto, si toda la iglesia se reúne y todos hablan en lenguas, y entran algunos sin ese don o que son incrédulos, ¿no dirán que ustedes están locos ?

Therefore if the whole church assembles together and all speak in tongues, and ungifted men or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are mad?

24 P ero si todos profetizan, y entra un incrédulo, o uno sin ese don, por todos será convencido, por todos será juzgado.

But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an ungifted man enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all;

25 L os secretos de su corazón quedarán al descubierto, y él se postrará y adorará a Dios, declarando que en verdad Dios está entre ustedes. El Orden en los Cultos

the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so he will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you.

26 ¿ Qué hay que hacer, pues, hermanos ? Cuando se reúnan, cada cual aporte salmo, enseñanza, revelación, lenguas o interpretación. Que todo se haga para edificación.

What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

27 S i alguien habla en lenguas, que hablen dos, o a lo más tres, y por turno, y que uno interprete.

If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret;

28 P ero si no hay intérprete, que guarde silencio en la iglesia y que hable para sí y para Dios.

but if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God.

29 Y que dos o tres profetas hablen, y los demás juzguen.

Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment.

30 P ero si a otro que está sentado le es revelado algo, que calle el primero.

But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent.

31 P orque todos pueden profetizar uno por uno, para que todos aprendan y todos sean exhortados.

For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted;

32 L os espíritus de los profetas están sujetos a los profetas.

and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets;

33 P orque Dios no es Dios de confusión, sino de paz, como en todas las iglesias de los santos.

for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

34 L as mujeres guarden silencio en las iglesias, porque no les es permitido hablar, antes bien, que se sujeten como dice también la Ley.

The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says.

35 Y si quieren aprender algo, que pregunten a sus propios maridos en casa, porque no es correcto que la mujer hable en la iglesia.

If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church.

36 ¿ Acaso la palabra de Dios salió de ustedes, o sólo a ustedes ha llegado?

Was it from you that the word of God first went forth? Or has it come to you only?

37 S i alguien piensa que es profeta o espiritual, reconozca que lo que les escribo es mandamiento del Señor.

If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize that the things which I write to you are the Lord’s commandment.

38 P ero si alguien no reconoce esto, él no es reconocido.

But if anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.

39 P or tanto, hermanos míos, anhelen el profetizar, y no prohíban hablar en lenguas.

Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues.

40 P ero que todo se haga decentemente y con orden.

But all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner.
