1 ¶ Thou shalt not see thy brother’s ox or his sheep go astray and hide thyself from them; thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother.

«Se vedi smarrirsi il bue o la pecora del tuo prossimo, tu non farai finta di non averli visti, ma avrai cura di ricondurli al tuo prossimo.

2 A nd even if thy brother is not kin unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seeks after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again.

Se il tuo prossimo non abita vicino a te e non lo conosci, raccoglierai l’animale in casa tua e rimarrà da te finché il tuo prossimo non ne faccia ricerca; allora glielo renderai.

3 I n like manner shalt thou do with his ass, and so shalt thou do with his clothing; and with any lost thing of thy brother’s, which he has lost, and thou hast found, shalt thou do likewise; thou may not draw back from this.

Lo stesso farai del suo asino, lo stesso della sua veste, lo stesso di qualunque altro oggetto che il tuo prossimo ha perduto e che tu trovi; tu non farai finta di non averli visti.

4 T hou shalt not see thy brother’s ass or his ox fallen down by the way and hide thyself from them; thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again.

Se vedi l’asino di un tuo fratello o il suo bue caduto sulla strada, tu non farai finta di non averli visti, ma dovrai aiutare il tuo prossimo a rialzarlo.

5 ¶ The woman shall not wear that which pertains unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment; for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

«La donna non si vestirà da uomo e l’uomo non si vestirà da donna, poiché il Signore, il tuo Dio, detesta chiunque fa tali cose.

6 I f a bird’s nest is encountered before thee in the way in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs, and the mother sitting upon the young or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the mother with the young.

Se per caso un nido di uccelli ti capita davanti, per la strada, sopra un albero o sul terreno, con degli uccellini o delle uova e la madre accovacciata sopra gli uccellini o le uova, non prenderai la madre con i piccoli;

7 B ut thou shalt let the mother go and take the young for thyself, that it may be well with thee and that thou may prolong thy days.

farai volar via la madre e prenderai i piccoli; e questo affinché tu sia felice e prolunghi i tuoi giorni.

8 W hen thou shall build a new house, then thou shalt make a parapet for thy roof that thou not bring blood upon thine house if anyone should fall from there.

Quando costruirai una casa nuova, vi farai un parapetto intorno alla terrazza. Così, se qualcuno cade di lassù, la tua casa non sarà responsabile del suo sangue.

9 T hou shalt not sow thy vineyard with mixture lest the fullness of thy seed which thou hast sown and the fruit of thy vineyard be defiled.

Non seminerai nella tua vigna due specie diverse di semi, altrimenti sia il prodotto della semenza che avrai seminato, sia il frutto della vigna, sarà consacrato.

10 T hou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together.

Non lavorerai con un bue e un asino aggiogati insieme.

11 T hou shalt not wear a garment of mixture, as of woolen and linen together.

Non porterai vestito di tessuto misto, fatto di lana e di lino.

12 T hou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy covering with which thou dost cover thyself.

Metterai delle frange ai quattro angoli del mantello con cui ti copri.

13 ¶ When any man takes a wife and after having gone in unto her, hates her

«Quando un uomo sposa una donna, entra da lei, e poi la prende in odio,

14 a nd gives occasions of speech against her and brings up an evil name upon her and says, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a virgin,

le attribuisce azioni cattive e disonora il suo nome, dicendo: “Ho preso questa donna e, quando mi sono accostato a lei, non l’ho trovata vergine”,

15 t hen shall the father of the damsel and her mother take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel’s virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate.

allora il padre e la madre della giovane prenderanno le prove della verginità della giovane e le presenteranno davanti agli anziani della città, alla porta.

16 A nd the damsel’s father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hates her;

Il padre della giovane dirà agli anziani: “Io ho dato mia figlia in moglie a quest’uomo; egli l’ha presa in odio,

17 a nd, behold, he has given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a virgin; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter’s virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.

ed ecco che le attribuisce azioni cattive, dicendo: ‘Non ho trovato vergine tua figlia’. Ora ecco le prove della verginità di mia figlia”, e mostreranno il lenzuolo davanti agli anziani della città.

18 T hen the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him;

Allora gli anziani di quella città prenderanno il marito e lo castigheranno;

19 a nd they shall fine him one hundred shekels of silver and give them unto the father of the damsel because he has brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel; and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.

e, per aver diffamato una vergine d’Israele, lo condanneranno a un’ammenda di cento sicli d’argento, che daranno al padre della giovane. Lei rimarrà sua moglie ed egli non potrà mandarla via per tutto il tempo della sua vita.

20 B ut if this thing is true and the tokens of virginity are not found for the damsel,

Ma se la cosa è vera, se la giovane non è stata trovata vergine,

21 t hen they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones, and she shall die because she has wrought folly in Israel, to fornicate in her father’s house; so shalt thou put evil away from among you.

allora si farà uscire quella giovane all’ingresso della casa di suo padre, e la gente della sua città la lapiderà a morte, perché ha commesso un atto infame in Israele, prostituendosi in casa di suo padre. Così toglierai via il male di mezzo a te.

22 I f a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman and the woman; so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.

«Quando si troverà un uomo coricato con una donna sposata, tutti e due moriranno: l’uomo che si è coricato con la donna, e la donna. Così toglierai via il male di mezzo a Israele.

23 W hen a damsel that is a virgin is betrothed unto a husband and a man finds her in the city and lies with her,

Quando una fanciulla vergine è fidanzata e un uomo, trovandola in città, si corica con lei,

24 t hen ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones, and they shall die; the damsel because she did not cry out, being in the city, and the man because he has humbled his neighbour’s wife; so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

condurrete tutti e due alla porta di quella città e li lapiderete a morte: la fanciulla perché, essendo in città, non ha gridato, e l’uomo perché ha disonorato la donna del suo prossimo. Così toglierai via il male di mezzo a te.

25 B ut if the man found a betrothed damsel in the field and the man forced her and lay with her; then only the man that lay with her shall die;

Ma se l’uomo trova per i campi la fanciulla fidanzata e, facendole violenza, si corica con lei, allora morirà soltanto l’uomo che si sarà coricato con lei;

26 b ut unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death; for as when a man rises against his neighbour and murders him, even so is this matter.

non farai niente alla fanciulla; nella fanciulla non c’è colpa degna di morte; si tratta di un caso come quello di un uomo che aggredisce il suo prossimo e lo uccide,

27 F or he found her in the field and the betrothed damsel cried out, and there was no one to save her.

perché egli l’ha trovata per i campi; la fanciulla fidanzata ha gridato, ma non c’era nessuno per salvarla.

28 W hen a man finds a damsel that is a virgin who is not betrothed and lays hold on her and lies with her, and they are found,

Quando un uomo trova una fanciulla vergine che non sia fidanzata, e l’afferra e si corica con lei e sono sorpresi,

29 t hen the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver and she shall be his wife; because he has humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

l’uomo che si è coricato con lei darà al padre della fanciulla cinquanta sicli d’argento e lei sarà sua moglie, perché l’ha disonorata; e non potrà mandarla via per tutto il tempo della sua vita.

30 A man shall not take his father’s wife, nor uncover his father’s skirt.

Nessuno prenderà la moglie di suo padre, né solleverà il lembo della coperta di suo padre.
