1 V isitó Jehová a Sara, como había dicho, e hizo Jehová con Sara como le había prometido.

And Jehovah visited Sarah as he had said, and Jehovah did to Sarah as he had spoken.

2 S ara concibió y dio a Abraham un hijo en su vejez, en el plazo que Dios le había dicho.

And Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him.

3 A l hijo que le nació, y que dio a luz Sara, Abraham le puso por nombre Isaac.

And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.

4 C ircuncidó Abraham a su hijo Isaac a los ocho días, como Dios le había mandado.

And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac, being eight days old, as God had commanded him.

5 T enía Abraham cien años cuando nació su hijo Isaac.

And Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

6 E ntonces dijo Sara: «Dios me ha hecho reír, y cualquiera que lo oiga se reirá conmigo.»

And Sarah said, God has made me laugh: all that hear will laugh with me.

7 Y añadió: «¿Quién le hubiera dicho a Abraham que Sara había de amamantar hijos? Pues le he dado un hijo en su vejez.» Agar e Ismael expulsados de la casa de Abraham

And she said, Who would have said to Abraham, Sarah will suckle children? For I have borne a son in his old age.

8 E l niño creció y fue destetado, y ofreció Abraham un gran banquete el día que fue destetado Isaac.

And the child grew, and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

9 P ero Sara vio que el hijo de Agar, la egipcia, el cual ésta le había dado a luz a Abraham, se burlaba de su hijo Isaac.

And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.

10 P or eso dijo a Abraham: «Echa a esta sierva y a su hijo, porque el hijo de esta sierva no ha de heredar con Isaac, mi hijo.»

And she said to Abraham, Cast out this handmaid and her son; for the son of this handmaid shall not inherit with my son—with Isaac.

11 E stas palabras le parecieron muy graves a Abraham, por tratarse de su hijo.

And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.

12 E ntonces dijo Dios a Abraham: «No te preocupes por el muchacho ni por tu sierva. Escucha todo cuanto te diga Sara, porque en Isaac te será llamada descendencia.

And God said to Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad and because of thy handmaid: all that Sarah hath said to thee hearken to her voice, for in Isaac shall a seed be called to thee.

13 T ambién del hijo de la sierva haré una nación, porque es tu descendiente.»

But also the son of the handmaid will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.

14 A l día siguiente, Abraham se levantó muy de mañana, tomó pan y un odre de agua y se lo dio a Agar. Lo puso sobre su hombro, le entregó el muchacho y la despidió. Ella salió y anduvo errante por el desierto de Beerseba.

And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a flask of water, and gave to Hagar, putting on her shoulder—and the child, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered about in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.

15 C uando le faltó el agua del odre, puso al muchacho debajo de un arbusto,

And the water was exhausted from the flask; and she cast the child under one of the shrubs,

16 s e fue y se sentó enfrente, a distancia de un tiro de arco, porque decía: «No veré cuando el muchacho muera.» Cuando ella se sentó enfrente, el muchacho alzó la voz y lloró.

and she went and sat down over against, a bow-shot off; for she said, Let me not behold the death of the child. And she sat over against, and lifted up her voice and wept.

17 O yó Dios la voz del muchacho, y el ángel de Dios llamó a Agar desde el cielo y le dijo: «¿Qué tienes, Agar? No temas, porque Dios ha oído la voz del muchacho ahí donde está.

And God heard the voice of the lad. And the Angel of God called to Hagar from the heavens, and said to her, What thee, Hagar? Fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad there, where he is.

18 L evántate, toma al muchacho y tenlo de la mano, porque yo haré de él una gran nación.»

Arise, take the lad, and hold him in thy hand; for I will make of him a great nation.

19 E ntonces Dios le abrió los ojos, y vio una fuente de agua. Fue Agar, llenó de agua el odre y dio de beber al muchacho.

And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the flask with water, and gave the lad drink.

20 D ios asistió al muchacho, el cual creció, habitó en el desierto y fue tirador de arco.

And God was with the lad, and he grew; and he dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

21 V ivió en el desierto de Parán, y su madre tomó para él mujer de la tierra de Egipto. Pacto entre Abraham y Abimelec

And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran. And his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

22 A conteció en aquel mismo tiempo que Abimelec y Ficol, jefe de su ejército, le dijeron a Abraham: —Dios está contigo en todo cuanto haces.

And it came to pass at that time that Abimelech, and Phichol the captain of his host, spoke to Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest.

23 A hora, pues, júrame aquí, por Dios, que no nos harás mal a mí ni a mi hijo ni a mi nieto, sino que, conforme a la bondad que yo tuve contigo, harás tú conmigo y con la tierra en la que ahora habitas.

And now swear to me here by God that thou wilt not deal deceitfully with me, nor with my son, nor with my grandson. According to the kindness that I have done to thee, thou shalt do to me, and to the land in which thou sojournest.

24 Y respondió Abraham: —Lo juro.

And Abraham said, I will swear.

25 P ero Abraham reconvino a Abimelec a causa de un pozo de agua que los siervos de Abimelec le habían quitado.

And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water that Abimelech's servants had violently taken away.

26 A bimelec respondió: —No sé quién haya hecho esto, ni tampoco tú me lo hiciste saber ni yo lo había oído hasta hoy.

And Abimelech said, I do not know who has done this, neither hast thou told me, neither have I heard but to-day.

27 E ntonces tomó Abraham ovejas y vacas y se las dio a Abimelec, e hicieron ambos un pacto.

And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them to Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant.

28 P ero Abraham puso aparte siete corderas del rebaño,

And Abraham set seven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves.

29 p or lo que Abimelec le preguntó: —¿Qué significan esas siete corderas que has puesto aparte?

And Abimelech said to Abraham, What these seven ewe-lambs, these which thou hast set by themselves?

30 A braham respondió: —Que estas siete corderas recibirás de mi mano, para que me sirvan de testimonio de que yo cavé este pozo.

And he said, That thou take the seven ewe-lambs of my hand, that they may be a witness to me that I have dug this well.

31 P or esto llamó a aquel lugar Beerseba, porque allí juraron ambos.

Therefore he called that place Beer-sheba, because there they had sworn, both of them.

32 H icieron, pues, pacto en Beerseba. Luego se levantaron Abimelec y Ficol, jefe de su ejército, y volvieron a tierra de los filisteos.

And they made a covenant at Beer-sheba. And Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the captain of his host, and returned into the land of the Philistines.

33 P lantó Abraham un tamarisco en Beerseba, e invocó allí el nombre de Jehová, Dios eterno.

And planted a tamarisk in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of Jehovah, the Eternal God.

34 Y habitó Abraham muchos días en tierra de los filisteos.

And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines' land many days.
