1 V isión de Abdías. Jehová, el Señor, ha dicho así en cuanto a Edom: «Hemos oído el pregón de Jehová, un mensajero ha sido enviado a las naciones: “¡Levantaos! Levantémonos en batalla contra este pueblo”.

The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah concerning Edom: We have heard a report from Jehovah, and an ambassador is sent among the nations. Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.

2 » Pequeño te he hecho entre las naciones; estás abatido en gran manera.

Behold, I have made thee small among the nations; thou art greatly despised.

3 L a soberbia de tu corazón te ha engañado, a ti, que moras en las hendiduras de las peñas, en tu altísima morada, que dices en tu corazón: “¿Quién me derribará a tierra?”

The pride of thy heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high;—he that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?

4 A unque te remontaras como águila y entre las estrellas pusieras tu nido, de ahí te derribaré, dice Jehová.

Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith Jehovah.

5 » Si ladrones vinieran a ti, o robadores de noche (¡cómo has sido destruido!), ¿no hurtarían lo que necesitan? Si entraran a ti vendimiadores, ¿no dejarían algún rebusco?

If thieves had come to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen they had had enough? If grape-gatherers had come to thee, would they not have left some gleanings?

6 ¡ Cómo fueron saqueadas las cosas de Esaú! Sus tesoros escondidos fueron buscados.

How is Esau searched! his hidden things sought out!

7 T odos tus aliados te han engañado; hasta los confines te hicieron llegar; los que estaban en paz contigo te han derrotado; los que comían tu pan pusieron trampa debajo de ti. ¡No hay en él inteligencia!

All the men of thy confederacy have pushed thee to the border; the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, they have prevailed against thee; thy bread have laid a snare under thee. There is no understanding in him.

8 » Aquel día, dice Jehová, haré que perezcan los sabios de Edom y la prudencia del monte de Esaú.

Shall I not in that day, saith Jehovah, destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?

9 Y tus valientes, Temán, serán amedrentados, y será exterminado todo hombre del monte de Esaú.

And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one may be cut off from the mount of Esau by slaughter.

10 » Por haber maltratado a tu hermano Jacob te cubrirá vergüenza y serás exterminado para siempre.

Because of violence against thy brother Jacob, shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

11 C uando extraños llevaban cautivo su ejército, cuando extraños entraban por sus puertas y echaban suertes sobre Jerusalén, tú estabas allí presente y te portaste como uno de ellos.

In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that strangers carried away captive his substance, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.

12 N o debiste alegrarte del día de tu hermano, del día de su desgracia. No debiste alegrarte de los hijos de Judá el día en que perecieron, ni debiste burlarte en el día de su angustia.

But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day of his disaster; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; nor have opened wide thy mouth in the day of distress.

13 N o debiste haber entrado por la puerta de mi pueblo en el día de su quebrantamiento; no, no debiste alegrarte de su mal en el día de su quebranto, ni haber echado mano a sus bienes en el día de su calamidad.

Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity, nor have looked, even thou, on their affliction in the day of their calamity, neither shouldest thou have laid on their substance in the day of their calamity;

14 T ampoco debiste haberte parado en las encrucijadas para matar a los que de ellos escapaban; ni debiste haber entregado a los que quedaban en el día de angustia.

and thou shouldest not have stood on the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape, nor have delivered up those remaining of him in the day of distress.

15 » Porque cercano está el día de Jehová sobre todas las naciones. Como tú hiciste se hará contigo; tu recompensa volverá sobre tu cabeza.

For the day of Jehovah is near upon all the nations: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy recompence shall return upon thine own head.

16 » De la manera que vosotros bebisteis en mi santo monte, beberán continuamente todas las naciones; beberán, engullirán y serán como si no hubieran existido.

For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the nations drink continually; yea, they shall drink, and shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.

17 M as en el monte Sión habrá un resto que se salvará; será santo y la casa de Jacob recuperará sus posesiones.

But upon mount Zion shall there be deliverance, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.

18 L a casa de Jacob será fuego, la casa de José será llama y la casa de Esaú estopa; los quemarán y los consumirán: ni siquiera un resto quedará de la casa de Esaú, porque Jehová lo ha dicho.»

And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble; and they shall kindle in them and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau: for Jehovah hath spoken.

19 L os del Neguev poseerán el monte de Esaú y los de la Sefela a los filisteos; poseerán también los campos de Efraín y los campos de Samaria; y Benjamín a Galaad.

And the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the lowland the Philistines; yea, they shall possess the field of Ephraim and the field of Samaria; and Benjamin Gilead;

20 L os cautivos de este ejército de los hijos de Israel poseerán lo de los cananeos hasta Sarepta, y los cautivos de Jerusalén que están en Sefarad poseerán las ciudades del Neguev.

and the captives of this host of the children of Israel what belonged to the Canaanites, unto Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, who in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.

21 Y subirán salvadores al monte Sión para juzgar al monte de Esaú. ¡El reino será de Jehová!

And saviours shall come up on mount Zion, to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be Jehovah's.
