1 C uando el rey Ezequías lo oyó, rasgó sus vestidos, se cubrió con vestiduras ásperas y entró en la casa de Jehová.

And it came to pass when king Hezekiah heard, that he rent his garments, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Jehovah.

2 Y envió a Eliaquim, el mayordomo, a Sebna, el escriba, y a los ancianos de los sacerdotes, cubiertos de ropas ásperas, a ver al profeta Isaías hijo de Amoz,

And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz.

3 p ara que le dijeran: «Así ha dicho Ezequías: “Este día es día de angustia, de reprensión y de blasfemia, porque los hijos están a punto de nacer y la que da a luz no tiene fuerzas.

And they said to him, Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of trouble and of rebuke and of reviling; for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.

4 Q uizá oirá Jehová, tu Dios, todas las palabras del copero mayor, a quien el rey de los asirios, su señor, ha enviado para blasfemar contra el Dios viviente y para insultar con palabras, las cuales Jehová, tu Dios, ha oído. Por tanto, eleva una oración por el remanente que aún queda.”»

It may be Jehovah thy God will hear all the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God; and will rebuke the words which Jehovah thy God has heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the remnant that is left.

5 C uando los siervos del rey Ezequías llegaron a ver a Isaías,

And the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

6 é ste les respondió: «Así diréis a vuestro señor: Así ha dicho Jehová: “No temas por las palabras que has oído, con las cuales han blasfemado contra mí los siervos del rey de Asiria.

And Isaiah said to them, Thus shall ye say to your master: Thus saith Jehovah: Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

7 M ira, voy a poner en él un espíritu, oirá un rumor, se volverá a su tierra y allí le haré caer a espada.”»

Behold, I will put a spirit into him, and he shall hear tidings, and shall return to his own land; and I will make him to fall by the sword in his own land.

8 E l copero mayor regresó y se encontró al rey de Asiria combatiendo contra Libna, pues oyó que se había ido de Laquis.

And Rab-shakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he had departed from Lachish.

9 A llí el rey de Siria se enteró de que Tirhaca, rey de Etiopía, había salido para hacerle guerra, y volvió a enviar embajadores a Ezequías diciendo:

And he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, he has come forth to make war with thee. And he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,

10 « Así diréis a Ezequías, rey de Judá: “Que no te engañe el Dios en quien tú confías, diciéndote: ‘Jerusalén no será entregada en manos del rey de Asiria.’

Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah saying: Let not thy God, upon whom thou reliest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

11 H as oído lo que han hecho los reyes de Asiria a todas las tierras que han destruido. ¿Vas a escapar tú?

Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all countries, destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?

12 ¿ Acaso libraron sus dioses a las naciones que mis padres destruyeron, esto es, a Gozán, Harán, Resef, y a los hijos de Edén que estaban en Telasar?

Have the gods of the nations which my fathers have destroyed delivered them: Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden that were in Thelassar?

13 ¿ Dónde está el rey de Hamat, el rey de Arfad, y el rey de la ciudad de Sefarvaim, de Hena y de Iva?”»

Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?

14 E zequías tomó la carta de manos de los embajadores. Después de leerla subió a la casa de Jehová y la extendió delante de Jehová.

And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up into the house of Jehovah, and spread it before Jehovah.

15 E ntonces oró Ezequías delante de Jehová diciendo: «Jehová, Dios de Israel, que moras entre los querubines, sólo tú eres Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra. Tú hiciste el cielo y la tierra.

And Hezekiah prayed before Jehovah and said, Jehovah, God of Israel, who sittest the cherubim, thou, the Same, thou alone art the God of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made the heavens and the earth.

16 I nclina, Jehová, tu oído y oye; abre, Jehová, tus ojos y mira. Oye las palabras que Senaquerib ha enviado a decirme para blasfemar contra el Dios viviente.

Incline thine ear, Jehovah, and hear; open, Jehovah, thine eyes, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, who hath sent him to reproach the living God.

17 E s verdad, Jehová, que los reyes de Asiria han destruido las naciones y sus tierras,

Of a truth, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,

18 y que han echado al fuego a sus dioses, por cuanto ellos no eran dioses, sino obra de manos humanas, de madera o de piedra, y por eso los destruyeron.

and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; therefore have they destroyed them.

19 A hora, pues, Jehová, Dios nuestro, sálvanos, te ruego, de sus manos, para que sepan todos los reinos de la tierra que sólo tú, Jehová, eres Dios.»

And now, Jehovah our God, I beseech thee, save us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou, Jehovah, art God, thou only.

20 E ntonces Isaías hijo de Amoz envió a decir a Ezequías: «Así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel: “He oído lo que me pediste acerca de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria.”

And Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel: That which thou hast prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.

21 » Ésta es la palabra que Jehová ha pronunciado acerca de él: »“La virgen, hija de Sión, te menosprecia, se burla de ti; a tus espaldas mueve su cabeza la hija de Jerusalén.

This is the word that Jehovah has spoken against him: The virgin-daughter of Zion despiseth thee, laugheth thee to scorn; The daughter of Jerusalem shaketh her head at thee.

22 ¿ A quién has insultado y contra quién has blasfemado?, ¿contra quién has alzado la voz, y levantado altanero tus ojos? Contra el Santo de Israel.

Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted the voice? Against the Holy one of Israel hast thou lifted up thine eyes on high.

23 P or medio de tus mensajeros has insultado a Jehová y has dicho: ‘Con la multitud de mis carros he subido a las alturas de los montes, a lo más inaccesible del Líbano; cortaré sus altos cedros, sus cipreses más escogidos; me alojaré en sus más remotos lugares, en el bosque de sus feraces campos.

By thy messengers thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots have I come up To the height of the mountain, to the recesses of Lebanon, And I will cut down its tall cedars, the choice of its cypresses; And I will enter into its furthest lodging-place, the forest of its fruitful field.

24 H e cavado y bebido las aguas extrañas, he secado con las plantas de mis pies todos los ríos de Egipto’.

I have digged, and have drunk strange waters, And with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the streams of Matsor.

25 ¿ Pero nunca oíste que lo hice desde tiempos antiguos, y que lo tengo ideado desde los días de la antigüedad? Pues ahora lo he hecho venir: Tú causarás desolaciones, y reducirás a montones de escombros las ciudades fortificadas.

Hast thou not heard long ago that I have done it? And that from ancient days I formed it? Now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest lay waste fortified cities ruinous heaps.

26 S us habitantes, impotentes, fueron acobardados y confundidos; vinieron a ser como la hierba del campo, como hortaliza verde, como heno de los terrados, que se marchita antes de madurar.

And their inhabitants were powerless, They were dismayed and put to shame; They were the growing grass, and the green herb, the grass on the housetops, and grain blighted before it be grown up.

27 H e conocido tu situación, todos tus movimientos, y tu furor contra mí.

But I know thine abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, And thy raging against me.

28 P or cuanto te has airado contra mí, por cuanto tu arrogancia ha subido a mis oídos, voy a poner mi garfio en tu nariz y mi freno en tus labios, y te haré volver por el camino por el que viniste.

Because thy raging against me and thine arrogance is come up into mine ears, I will put my ring in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, And I will make thee go back by the way by which thou camest.

29 » ”Esto te daré por señal, Ezequías: Este año comeréis lo que nacerá de suyo, y el segundo año lo que nacerá de suyo. Al tercer año sembraréis y segaréis, plantaréis viñas y comeréis el fruto de ellas.

And this the sign unto thee: They shall eat this year such as groweth of itself, And in the second year that which springeth of the same; But in the third year sow ye and reap, And plant vineyards and eat the fruit thereof.

30 L o que haya escapado, lo que haya quedado de la casa de Judá, volverá a echar raíces por debajo y llevará frutos por arriba.

And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah Shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward;

31 P orque de Jerusalén saldrá un resto, y del monte Sión los que se salven. El celo de Jehová de los ejércitos hará esto.

For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, And out of mount Zion they that escape: The zeal of Jehovah shall do this.

32 » ”Por tanto, así dice Jehová acerca del rey de Asiria: No entrará en esta ciudad, ni lanzará flechas en ella; ni la enfrentará con escudo, ni levantará contra ella un baluarte.

Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city, Nor shoot an arrow there, Nor come before it with shield, Nor cast a bank against it.

33 P or el mismo camino que vino, volverá, y no entrará en esta ciudad, dice Jehová.

By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, And shall not come into this city, saith Jehovah.

34 P orque yo ampararé esta ciudad para salvarla, por amor a mí mismo, y por amor a David, mi siervo.”»

And I will defend this city, to save it, For mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

35 A conteció que aquella misma noche salió el ángel de Jehová y mató en el campamento de los asirios a ciento ochenta y cinco mil hombres. A la hora de levantarse por la mañana, todo era cuerpos de muertos.

And it came to pass that night, that an angel of Jehovah went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead bodies.

36 E ntonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, partió y regresó a Nínive, donde se quedó.

And Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and abode at Nineveh.

37 Y aconteció que mientras él adoraba en el templo de Nisroc, su dios, sus hijos Adramelec y Sarezer lo hirieron a espada y huyeron a tierra de Ararat. En su lugar reinó Esar-hadón, su hijo.

And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.
