1 N el primo giorno del terzo mese dall'uscita dal paese d'Egitto, in questo giorno, i figli d'Israele giunsero al deserto del Sinai.

In the third month of the going out of the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, in this day they have come into the wilderness of Sinai,

2 E ssendo partiti da Refidim, giunsero al deserto del Sinai e si accamparono nel deserto; Israele si accampò là, di fronte al monte.

and they journey from Rephidim, and enter the wilderness of Sinai, and encamp in the wilderness; and Israel encampeth there before the mount.

3 P oi Mosè salì verso DIO; e l'Eterno lo chiamò dal monte, dicendo: «Così dirai alla casa di Giacobbe e questo annuncerai ai figli d'Israele:

And Moses hath gone up unto God, and Jehovah calleth unto him out of the mount, saying, `Thus dost thou say to the house of Jacob, and declare to the sons of Israel,

4 " Voi avete visto ciò che ho fatto agli Egiziani, e come io vi ho portato sulle ali d'aquila e vi ho condotto da me.

Ye -- ye have seen that which I have done to the Egyptians, and I bear you on eagles' wings, and bring you in unto Myself.

5 O r dunque, se darete attentamente ascolto alla mia voce e osserverete il mio patto, sarete fra tutti i popoli il mio tesoro particolare, poiché tutta la terra è mia.

`And now, if ye really hearken to My voice, then ye have kept My covenant, and been to Me a peculiar treasure more than all the peoples, for all the earth Mine;

6 E sarete per me un regno di sacerdoti e una nazione santa. Queste sono le parole che dirai ai figli d'Israele"».

and ye -- ye are to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation: these the words which thou dost speak unto the sons of Israel.'

7 A llora Mosè mandò a chiamare gli anziani del popolo, ed espose loro tutte queste parole che l'Eterno gli aveva ordinato di dire.

And Moses cometh, and calleth for the elders of the people, and setteth before them all these words which Jehovah hath commanded him;

8 E tutto il popolo rispose insieme e disse: «Noi faremo tutto ciò che l'Eterno ha detto». Così Mosè riferì all'Eterno le parole del popolo.

and all the people answer together and say, `All that Jehovah hath spoken we do;' and Moses returneth the words of the people unto Jehovah.

9 E l'Eterno disse a Mosè: «Ecco io verrò a te in una densa nuvola, affinché il popolo oda quando io parlerò con te, e creda a te per sempre». Mosè riferì quindi all'Eterno le parole del popolo.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Lo, I am coming unto thee in the thickness of the cloud, so that the people hear in My speaking with thee, and also believe in thee to the age;' and Moses declareth the words of the people unto Jehovah.

10 A llora l'Eterno disse a Mosè: «Va' dal popolo, santificalo oggi e domani, e fa' che si lavi le vesti.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Go unto the people; and thou hast sanctified them to-day and to-morrow, and they have washed their garments,

11 E siano pronti per il terzo giorno, perché il terzo giorno l'Eterno scenderà sul monte Sinai agli occhi di tutto il popolo.

and have been prepared for the third day; for on the third day doth Jehovah come down before the eyes of all the people, on mount Sinai.

12 T u fisserai tutt'intorno dei limiti al popolo e dirai: Guardatevi dal salire sul monte o dal toccarne l'estremità. Chiunque toccherà il monte sarà messo a morte.

`And thou hast made a border the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, going up into the mount, or coming against its extremity; whoever is coming against the mount is certainly put to death;

13 N essuna mano lo toccherà, ma sarà lapidato o trafitto con frecce, tanto uomo che animale; non sarà lasciato in vita. Quando il corno suonerà a distesa allora salgano sul monte».

a hand cometh not against him, for he is certainly stoned or shot through, whether beast or man it liveth not; in the drawing out of the jubilee cornet they go up into the mount.'

14 C osì Mosè scese dal monte verso il popolo; santificò il popolo ed essi si lavarono le vesti.

And Moses cometh down from the mount unto the people, and sanctifieth the people, and they wash their garments;

15 P oi disse al popolo: «Siate pronti fra tre giorni; non accostatevi a donna».

and he saith unto the people, `Be ye prepared for the third day, come not nigh unto a woman.'

16 I l terzo giorno come fu mattino, ci furono tuoni e lampi; sul monte apparve una densa nuvola e si udì un fortissimo suon di tromba; e tutto il popolo che era nell'accampamento tremò.

And it cometh to pass, on the third day, while it is morning, that there are voices, and lightnings, and a heavy cloud, on the mount, and the sound of a trumpet very strong; and all the people who in the camp do tremble.

17 Q uindi Mosè fece uscire il popolo dall'accampamento per condurlo incontro a DIO; e si fermarono ai piedi del monte.

And Moses bringeth out the people to meet God from the camp, and they station themselves at the lower part of the mount,

18 O r il monte Sinai era tutto fumante, perché l'Eterno era disceso su di esso nel fuoco; il suo fumo saliva come il fumo di una fornace, e tutto il monte tremava forte.

and mount Sinai wholly a smoke from the presence of Jehovah, who hath come down on it in fire, and its smoke goeth up as smoke of the furnace, and the whole mount trembleth exceedingly;

19 M entre il suono della tromba andava facendosi sempre piú forte, Mosè parlava, e DIO gli rispondeva con una voce tonante.

and the sound of the trumpet is going on, and very strong; Moses speaketh, and God doth answer him with a voice.

20 L 'Eterno dunque scese sul monte Sinai, in vetta al monte; poi l'Eterno chiamò Mosè in vetta al monte e Mosè vi salì.

And Jehovah cometh down on mount Sinai, unto the top of the mount, and Jehovah calleth for Moses unto the top of the mount, and Moses goeth up.

21 l 'Eterno disse a Mosè: «Scendi e avverti solennemente il popolo, perché non si precipiti verso l'Eterno per guardare, e molti non abbiano a perire.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Go down, protest to the people, lest they break through unto Jehovah to see, and many of them have fallen;

22 A nche i sacerdoti che si avvicinano all'Eterno si santifichino, affinché l'Eterno non si avventi contro di loro».

and also the priests who are coming nigh unto Jehovah do sanctify themselves, lest Jehovah break forth on them.'

23 M osè disse all'Eterno: «Il popolo non può salire sul monte Sinai, poiché tu ci hai ordinato solennemente, dicendo: "Poni dei limiti attorno al monte e santificalo"».

And Moses saith unto Jehovah, `The people unable to come up unto mount Sinai, for Thou -- Thou hast protested to us, saying, Make a border the mount, then thou hast sanctified it.'

24 M a l'Eterno gli disse: «Va

And Jehovah saith unto him, `Go, descend, then thou hast come up, thou, and Aaron with thee; and the priests and the people do not break through, to come up unto Jehovah, lest He break forth upon them.'

25 C osì Mosè scese dal popolo e gli parló.

And Moses goeth down unto the people, and saith unto them: --
