1 P oi essi partirono da Elim e tutta l'assemblea dei figli d'Israele giunse nel deserto di Sin, che è fra Elim e il Sinai, il quindicesimo giorno del secondo mese dopo la loro partenza dal paese d'Egitto.

And they journey from Elim, and all the company of the sons of Israel come in unto the wilderness of Sin, which between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month of their going out from the land of Egypt.

2 E tutta l'assemblea dei figli d'Israele mormorò contro Mosè e contro Aaronne nel deserto.

And all the company of the sons of Israel murmur against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness;

3 I figli d'Israele dissero loro: «Oh, fossimo pur morti per mano dell'Eterno nel paese d'Egitto, quando sedevamo presso le pentole di carne e mangiavamo pane a sazietà! Poiché voi ci avete condotti in questo deserto per far morire di fame tutta questa assemblea».

and the sons of Israel say unto them, `Oh that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, in our sitting by the flesh-pot, in our eating bread to satiety -- for ye have brought us out unto this wilderness to put all this assembly to death with hunger.'

4 L 'Eterno disse a Mosè: «Ecco, io farò piovere per voi del pane dal cielo; e il popolo uscirà e raccoglierà ogni giorno la provvista del giorno, perché io lo voglio mettere alla prova per vedere se camminerà o no secondo la mia legge.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Lo, I am raining to you bread from the heavens -- and the people have gone out and gathered the matter of a day in its day -- so that I try them whether they walk in My law, or not;

5 M a il sesto giorno, quando prepareranno la provvista che devono portare a casa, essa sarà il doppio di quella che raccolgono giornalmente».

and it hath been on the sixth day, that they have prepared that which they bring in, and it hath been double above that which they gather day day.'

6 A llora Mosè ed Aaronne dissero a tutti i figli d'Israele: «Alla sera voi conoscerete che l'Eterno è colui che vi ha fatto uscire dal paese d'Egitto;

And Moses saith -- Aaron also -- unto all the sons of Israel, `Evening -- and ye have known that Jehovah hath brought you out from the land of Egypt;

7 e al mattino vedrete la gloria dell'Eterno, poiché egli ha udito le vostre mormorazioni contro l'Eterno; ma noi che cosa siamo perché mormoriate contro di noi?».

and morning -- and ye have seen the honour of Jehovah, in His hearing your murmurings against Jehovah, and what we, that ye murmur against us?'

8 M osè disse ancora: «Questo avverrà quando l'Eterno vi darà carne da mangiare alla sera e pane a sazietà al mattino, poiché l'Eterno ha udito le vostre mormorazioni che avete fatto contro di lui. Ma noi che cosa siamo? Le vostre mormorazioni non sono contro di noi, ma contro l'Eterno».

And Moses saith, `In Jehovah's giving to you in the evening flesh to eat, and bread in the morning to satiety -- in Jehovah's hearing your murmurings, which ye are murmuring against Him, and what we? your murmurings not against us, but against Jehovah.'

9 P oi Mosè disse ad Aaronne: «Di' a tutta l'assemblea dei figli d'Israele: "Avvicinatevi davanti all'Eterno, perché egli ha udito le vostre mormorazioni"».

And Moses saith unto Aaron, `Say unto all the company of the sons of Israel, Come ye near before Jehovah, for He hath heard your murmurings;'

10 C ome Aaronne parlava a tutta l'assemblea dei figli d'Israele, essi si voltarono verso il deserto; ed ecco che la gloria dell'Eterno apparve nella nuvola.

and it cometh to pass, when Aaron is speaking unto all the company of the sons of Israel, that they turn towards the wilderness, and lo, the honour of Jehovah is seen in the cloud.

11 E l'Eterno parlò a Mosè, dicendo:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

12 « Io ho udito le mormorazioni dei figli d'Israele; parla loro, dicendo: "Sull'imbrunire mangerete della carne e al mattino sarete saziati di pane; e conoscerete che io sono l'Eterno, il vostro DIO"».

`I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel; speak unto them, saying, Between the evenings ye eat flesh, and in the morning ye are satisfied bread, and ye have known that I Jehovah your God.'

13 C osì, verso sera avvenne che salirono delle quaglie e ricopersero il campo; e al mattino c'era uno strato di rugiada intorno al campo.

And it cometh to pass in the evening, that the quail cometh up, and covereth the camp, and in the morning there hath been the lying of dew round about the camp,

14 P oi lo strato di rugiada scomparve, ed ecco sulla superficie del deserto una cosa fine e tonda, minuta come la brina sulla terra.

and the lying of the dew goeth up, and lo, on the face of the wilderness a thin, bare thing, thin as hoar-frost on the earth.

15 Q uando i figli d'Israele la videro, si dissero l'un l'altro: «Che cos'è?», perché non sapevano che cosa fosse. E Mosè disse loro: «Questo è il pane che l'Eterno vi ha dato da mangiare.

And the sons of Israel see, and say one unto another, `What it?' for they have not known what it; and Moses saith unto them, `It the bread which Jehovah hath given to you for food.

16 E cco quel che l'Eterno ha comandato: Ne raccolga ognuno quanto gli basta per il suo nutrimento, un omer a testa, secondo il numero delle persone che siete; ognuno ne pigli per quelli che sono nella sua tenda».

`This the thing which Jehovah hath commanded: Gather of it each according to his eating, an omer for a poll; and the number of your persons, take ye each for those in his tent.'

17 I figli d'Israele fecero così; gli uni ne raccolsero di piú e gli altri di meno.

And the sons of Israel do so, and they gather, he who is much, and he who is little;

18 L o misurarono con l'omer; or chi ne aveva raccolto molto non n'ebbe troppo; e chi ne aveva raccolto poco non ne mancò. Ognuno ne raccolse in base al suo bisogno di cibo.

and they measure with an omer, and he who is much hath nothing over, and he who is little hath no lack, each according to his eating they have gathered.

19 P oi Mosè disse loro: «Nessuno ne avanzi fino al mattino».

And Moses saith unto them, `Let no man leave of it till morning;'

20 M a essi non ubbidirono a Mosè e alcuni ne avanzarono fino all'indomani; e questo imputridì producendo vermi e mandò fetore; e Mosè si adirò contro costoro.

and they have not hearkened unto Moses, and some of them do leave of it till morning, and it bringeth up worms and stinketh; and Moses is wroth with them.

21 C osì lo raccoglievano tutte le mattine: ciascuno in base al suo bisogno di cibo; ma quando il sole si faceva caldo, quello si scioglieva.

And they gather it morning by morning, each according to his eating; when the sun hath been warm, then it hath melted.

22 C osì il sesto giorno raccolsero una doppia porzione di pane, due omer per ciascuno. E tutti i capi dell'assemblea vennero a riferirlo a Mosè.

And it cometh to pass on the sixth day, they have gathered a second bread, two omers for one, and all the princes of the company come in, and declare to Moses.

23 E gli allora disse loro: «Questo è ciò che l'Eterno ha detto: Domani è un giorno solenne di riposo, un sabato sacro all'Eterno; fate cuocere oggi quel che dovete cuocere e fate bollire quel che dovete bollire; e tutto quel che vi avanza, riponetelo e conservatelo fino a domani».

And he saith unto them, `It that which Jehovah hath spoken; a rest -- a holy sabbath to Jehovah -- to-morrow; that which ye bake, bake; and that which ye boil, boil; and all that is over, let rest for yourselves in charge till the morning.'

24 E ssi dunque lo riposero fino all'indomani, come Mosè aveva ordinato; e quello non mandò fetore e non produsse vermi.

And they let it rest until the morning, as Moses hath commanded, and it hath not stank, and a worm hath not been in it.

25 M osè disse: «Mangiatelo oggi, perché oggi è il sabato sacro all'Eterno; oggi non ne troverete per i campi.

And Moses saith, `Eat it to-day, for to-day a sabbath to Jehovah; to-day ye find it not in the field:

26 R accoglietene durante sei giorni; ma nel settimo giorno, il sabato, non ve ne sarà».

six days ye do gather it, and in the seventh day -- the sabbath -- in it there is none.'

27 O r nel settimo giorno avvenne che alcuni del popolo uscirono per raccoglierne, ma non ne trovarono.

And it cometh to pass on the seventh day, some of the people have gone out to gather, and have not found.

28 A llora l'Eterno disse a Mosè: «Fino a quando rifiuterete di osservare i miei comandamenti e le mie leggi?

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `How long have ye refused to keep My commands, and My laws?

29 R icordate che l'Eterno vi ha dato il sabato; per questo nel sesto giorno egli vi dà del pane per due giorni. Rimanga ognuno al suo posto; nessuno esca dalla sua tenda il settimo giorno».

see, because Jehovah hath given to you the sabbath, therefore He is giving to you on the sixth day bread of two days; abide ye each his place, no one doth go out from his place on the seventh day.'

30 C osì il popolo si riposò il settimo giorno.

And the people rest on the seventh day,

31 E la casa d'Israele lo chiamò Manna; essa era simile al seme di coriandolo, bianca e con il gusto di schiacciate fatte col miele.

and the house of Israel call its name Manna, and it as coriander seed, white; and its taste as a cake with honey.

32 P oi Mosè disse: «Questo è ciò che l'Eterno ha ordinato: "Riempi con essa un omer, perché sia conservata per i vostri discendenti, affinché essi vedano il pane che vi ho fatto mangiare nel deserto, quando vi ho fatto uscire dal paese d'Egitto"».

And Moses saith, `This the thing which Jehovah hath commanded: Fill the omer with it, for a charge for your generations, so that they see the bread which I have caused you to eat in the wilderness, in My bringing you out from the land of Egypt.'

33 M osè disse quindi ad Aaronne: «Prendi un vaso, mettici dentro un intero omer di manna e deponilo davanti all'Eterno perché sia conservato per i vostri discendenti».

And Moses saith unto Aaron, `Take one pot, and put there the fulness of the omer of manna, and let it rest before Jehovah, for a charge for your generations;'

34 C ome l'Eterno aveva ordinato a Mosè, Aaronne lo depose davanti alla Testimonianza, perché fosse conservato.

as Jehovah hath given commandment unto Moses, so doth Aaron let it rest before the Testimony, for a charge.

35 E i figli d'Israele mangiarono la manna per quarant'anni, finché arrivarono in un paese abitato; mangiarono la manna finché giunsero ai confini del paese di Canaan

And the sons of Israel have eaten the manna forty years, until their coming in unto the land to be inhabited; the manna they have eaten till their coming in unto the extremity of the land of Canaan.

36 O r l'omer è la decima parte dell'efa.

and the omer is a tenth of the ephah.
