1 L os filisteos pelearon contra los israelitas y los pusieron en fuga, y muchos israelitas murieron en el monte de Gilboa.

Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

2 L os filisteos persiguieron a Saúl y a sus hijos, y de ellos mataron a Jonatán, Abinadab y Malquisúa.

And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.

3 A l arreciar la batalla contra Saúl, los flecheros lo alcanzaron y lo hirieron.

And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.

4 S aúl dijo entonces a su escudero: «Saca tu espada y clávamela, no sea que estos incircuncisos vengan y se burlen de mí.» Pero su escudero no quiso hacerlo, porque tenía mucho miedo. Entonces Saúl sacó su propia espada, y se arrojó sobre ella.

Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

5 C uando su escudero vio muerto a Saúl, también él se arrojó sobre su espada y se mató.

And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

6 A sí murieron Saúl y sus tres hijos, y con él murió toda su familia.

So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.

7 C uando todos los israelitas que habitaban en el valle vieron que el ejército huía, y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muertos, abandonaron sus ciudades y huyeron, y los filisteos llegaron y las ocuparon.

And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

8 Y al día siguiente, cuando los filisteos llegaron para despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus hijos tendidos en el monte de Gilboa.

And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

9 E ntonces lo despojaron, le quitaron la cabeza y sus armas, y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos para dar la noticia a sus ídolos y al pueblo.

And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

10 P usieron las armas de Saúl en el templo de sus dioses, y su cabeza la colgaron en el templo de Dagón.

And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.

11 Y cuando todos los de Jabés de Galaad supieron lo que los filisteos habían hecho con Saúl,

And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

12 t odos los más aguerridos fueron a recoger los cuerpos de Saúl y de sus hijos, y los llevaron a Jabés, y allí en Jabés enterraron sus huesos debajo de una encina, y ayunaron siete días.

they arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

13 A sí fue como Saúl murió por haberse rebelado y por pecar contra el Señor y contra su palabra, la cual no obedeció, pues prefirió consultar a una adivina

So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the Lord, even against the word of the Lord, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;

14 e n vez de consultarlo a él. Por eso el Señor le quitó la vida y entregó el reino a David hijo de Yesé.

and enquired not of the Lord: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
