1 D er Mensch setzt sich's wohl vor im Herzen; aber vom HERRN kommt, was die Zunge reden soll.

The purposes of the heart are of man, but the answer of the tongue is from Jehovah.

2 E inem jeglichen dünken seine Wege rein; aber der HERR wägt die Geister.

All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but Jehovah weigheth the spirits.

3 B efiehl dem HERRN deine Werke, so werden deine Anschläge fortgehen.

Commit thy works unto Jehovah, and thy thoughts shall be established.

4 D er HERR macht alles zu bestimmtem Ziel, auch den Gottlosen für den bösen Tag.

Jehovah hath wrought everything on his own account, yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

5 E in stolzes Herz ist dem HERRN ein Greuel und wird nicht ungestraft bleiben, wenn sie gleich alle aneinander hängen.

Every proud heart is an abomination to Jehovah: hand for hand, he shall not be held innocent.

6 D urch Güte und Treue wird Missetat versöhnt, und durch die Furcht des HERRN meidet man das Böse.

By loving-kindness and truth iniquity is atoned for; and by the fear of Jehovah depart from evil.

7 W enn jemands Wege dem HERRN wohl gefallen, so macht er auch seine Feinde mit ihm zufrieden.

When a man's ways please Jehovah, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

8 E s ist besser ein wenig mit Gerechtigkeit denn viel Einkommen mit Unrecht.

Better is a little with righteousness, than great revenues without right.

9 D es Menschen Herz erdenkt sich seinen Weg; aber der HERR allein gibt, daß er fortgehe.

The heart of man deviseth his way, but Jehovah directeth his steps.

10 W eissagung ist in dem Munde des Königs; sein Mund fehlt nicht im Gericht.

An oracle is on the lips of the king: his mouth will not err in judgment.

11 R echte Waage und Gewicht ist vom HERRN; und alle Pfunde im Sack sind seine Werke.

The just balance and scales are Jehovah's; all the weights of the bag are his work.

12 D en Königen ist Unrecht tun ein Greuel; denn durch Gerechtigkeit wird der Thron befestigt.

It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness; for the throne is established by righteousness.

13 R echt raten gefällt den Königen; und wer aufrichtig redet, wird geliebt.

Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and they love him that speaketh aright.

14 D es Königs Grimm ist ein Bote des Todes; aber ein weiser Mann wird ihn versöhnen.

The fury of a king is messengers of death; but a wise man will pacify it.

15 W enn des Königs Angesicht freundlich ist, das ist Leben, und seine Gnade ist wie ein Spätregen.

In the light of the king's countenance is life, and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.

16 N imm an die Weisheit, denn sie ist besser als Gold; und Verstand haben ist edler als Silber.

How much better is it to get wisdom than fine gold, and the getting of intelligence to be preferred to silver!

17 D er Frommen Weg meidet das Arge; und wer seinen Weg bewahrt, der erhält sein Leben.

The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that taketh heed to his way keepeth his soul.

18 W er zu Grunde gehen soll, der wird zuvor stolz; und Hochmut kommt vor dem Fall.

Pride before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

19 E s ist besser niedrigen Gemüts sein mit den Elenden, denn Raub austeilen mit den Hoffärtigen.

Better is it to be of a humble spirit with the meek, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

20 W er eine Sache klüglich führt, der findet Glück; und wohl dem, der sich auf den HERRN verläßt!

He that giveth heed to the word shall find good; and whoso confideth in Jehovah, happy is he.

21 E in Verständiger wird gerühmt für einen weisen Mann, und liebliche Reden lehren wohl.

The wise in heart is called intelligent, and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.

22 K lugheit ist wie ein Brunnen des Lebens dem, der sie hat; aber die Zucht der Narren ist Narrheit.

Wisdom is a fountain of life for him that hath it; but the instruction of fools is folly.

23 E in weises Herz redet klug und lehrt wohl.

The heart of the wise maketh his mouth intelligent, and upon his lips increaseth learning.

24 D ie Reden des Freundlichen sind Honigseim, trösten die Seele und erfrischen die Gebeine.

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health for the bones.

25 M anchem gefällt ein Weg wohl; aber zuletzt bringt er ihn zum Tode.

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the ways of death.

26 M ancher kommt zu großem Unglück durch sein eigen Maul.

The appetite of the labourer laboureth for him, for his mouth urgeth him on.

27 E in loser Mensch gräbt nach Unglück, und in seinem Maul brennt Feuer.

A man of Belial diggeth up evil, and on his lips there is as a scorching fire.

28 E in verkehrter Mensch richtet Hader an, und ein Verleumder macht Freunde uneins.

A false man soweth contention; and a talebearer separateth very friends.

29 E in Frevler lockt seinen Nächsten und führt ihn auf keinen guten Weg.

A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into a way that is not good.

30 W er mit den Augen winkt, denkt nichts Gutes; und wer mit den Lippen andeutet, vollbringt Böses.

He that shutteth his eyes, to devise froward things; biting his lips, he bringeth evil to pass.

31 G raue Haare sind eine Krone der Ehren, die auf dem Wege der Gerechtigkeit gefunden wird.

The hoary head is a crown of glory, it is found in the way of righteousness.

32 E in Geduldiger ist besser denn ein Starker, und der seines Mutes Herr ist, denn der Städte gewinnt.

He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

33 D as Los wird geworfen in den Schoß; aber es fällt, wie der HERR will.

The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole decision is of Jehovah.
