1 ¶ Ephraim feeds on wind and follows after the east wind; he daily increases lies and desolation because they made a covenant with the Assyrians, and the oil is carried into Egypt.

(012-2) Efraim si pasce di vento e va dietro al vento d'est; ogni giorno moltiplica menzogne e violenza; fanno alleanza con l'Assiria e portano olio in Egitto.

2 T he LORD also has a controversy with Judah to visit Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

(012-3) L'Eterno è pure in lite con Giuda e punirà Giacobbe per la sua condotta; lo ripagherà secondo le sue opere.

3 H e took his brother by the heel in the womb, and with his strength he overcame the angel;

(012-4) Nel grembo materno prese il fratello per il calcagno e nella sua forza lottò con DIO.

4 y ea, he dominated the angel and prevailed; he wept and made supplication unto him; he found him in Bethel, and there he spoke with us;

(012-5) Si' lottò con l'Angelo e vinse, pianse e lo supplicò. Lo trovò a Bethel, e là egli parlò con noi,

5 b ut the LORD is God of the hosts; the LORD is his memorial.

(012-6) cioè l'Eterno, il DIO degli eserciti, il cui nome è l'Eterno.

6 T herefore be thou converted unto thy God; keep mercy and judgment, and in thy God wait continually.

(012-7) Tu perciò ritorna al tuo DIO, pratica la misericordia e la rettitudine e spera sempre nel tuo DIO.

7 ¶ He is a merchant who has the balances of deceit in his hand; he loves to oppress.

(012-8) Efraim è un mercante che tiene in mano bilance false e ama frodare.

8 A nd Ephraim said, Surely I have become rich, I have found riches for myself; no one shall find iniquity in me, nor sin in all my labours.

(012-9) Efraim dice: «Mi sono anche arricchito, mi sono procurato ricchezze; in tutte le mie fatiche non troveranno in me alcuna iniquità che sia peccato».

9 B ut I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt; I will yet make thee to dwell in tents as in the days of the solemn feast.

(012-10) «Ma io sono l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, fin dal paese d'Egitto. Ti farò ancora abitare in tende come nei giorni di solennità.

10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the hand of the prophets.

(012-11) Ho parlato ai profeti, ho moltiplicato le visioni e per mezzo dei profeti ho usato similitudini».

11 I s Gilead iniquity? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

(012-12) Se Galaad si dà all'idolatria, sarà certamente ridotto a un nulla. Poiché in Ghilgal, sacrificano tori, i loro altari saranno certamente come mucchi di pietre lungo i solchi dei campi.

12 B ut Jacob fled into the land of Aram, and Israel served for his wife, and for his wife he was a pastor.

(012-13) Giacobbe fuggí nella pianura di Siria, e Israele serví per una moglie, per una moglie fece il guardiano di pecore.

13 A nd by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.

(012-14) Per mezzo di un profeta l'Eterno fece uscire Israele dall'Egitto, e Israele fu custodito da un profeta.

14 E phraim provoked God to anger with bitterness: therefore his blood shall be spilled upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord repay unto him.

(012-15) Efraim lo ha provocato amaramente ad ira, perciò il suo Signore gli farà ricadere addosso il sangue versato e farà tornare su di lui il suo vituperio.
