1 ¶ Ephraim feeds on wind and follows after the east wind; he daily increases lies and desolation because they made a covenant with the Assyrians, and the oil is carried into Egypt.

Efraín anda tras el viento; va en pos del solano; constantemente aumenta la mentira y la destrucción, porque hace pactos con los asirios y se lleva a Egipto el aceite.

2 T he LORD also has a controversy with Judah to visit Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

El Señor tiene pleito con Judá. Va a castigar a Jacob por sus acciones; va a darle su merecido por sus hechos.

3 H e took his brother by the heel in the womb, and with his strength he overcame the angel;

En el seno materno agarró a su hermano por el talón, y cuando creció luchó con un ángel

4 y ea, he dominated the angel and prevailed; he wept and made supplication unto him; he found him in Bethel, and there he spoke with us;

y logró vencerlo. Luego lloró, y cuando lo encontró en Betel le rogó. Allí él habló con nosotros;

5 b ut the LORD is God of the hosts; the LORD is his memorial.

habló el Señor y Dios de los ejércitos. Su nombre es el Señor.

6 T herefore be thou converted unto thy God; keep mercy and judgment, and in thy God wait continually.

Por lo tanto, vuélvete a tu Dios, haz misericordia e imparte justicia, y confía siempre en tu Dios.

7 ¶ He is a merchant who has the balances of deceit in his hand; he loves to oppress.

«Como un mercader que sostiene pesas falsas en su mano, y que ama la opresión,

8 A nd Ephraim said, Surely I have become rich, I have found riches for myself; no one shall find iniquity in me, nor sin in all my labours.

Efraín dijo: “¡Qué rico soy! ¡Tengo muchas riquezas! ¡Y nadie puede acusarme de haber pecado ni de haber ganado todo esto de manera indebida!”

9 B ut I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt; I will yet make thee to dwell in tents as in the days of the solemn feast.

Pero desde que estabas en Egipto yo soy el Señor tu Dios; y todavía he de hacerte vivir en tiendas de campaña, como en los días de fiesta.

10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the hand of the prophets.

»Yo les he hablado a los profetas, y aumenté las visiones, y por medio de ellos me comuniqué en parábolas.

11 I s Gilead iniquity? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

¿Hay iniquidad en Galaad? La verdad, los de Galaad no valen nada. En Gilgal ofrecieron bueyes en sacrificio. Por eso sus altares quedarán como los montones de tierra en los surcos del campo.

12 B ut Jacob fled into the land of Aram, and Israel served for his wife, and for his wife he was a pastor.

Jacob huyó a tierra de Aram. Allí, Israel trabajó como pastor para ganarse una esposa.

13 A nd by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.

Por medio de un profeta, yo, el Señor, saqué a Israel de Egipto, y por medio de ese profeta lo cuidé.

14 E phraim provoked God to anger with bitterness: therefore his blood shall be spilled upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord repay unto him.

¡Pero cuántos amargos disgustos Efraín me ha causado! Por lo tanto, yo, el Señor, haré que recaiga sobre él la sangre que ha derramado, y le devolveré sus ofensas.
