1 B less Jehovah, O my soul. O Jehovah my God, thou art very great; Thou art clothed with honor and majesty:

Lobe den HERRN, meine Seele! HERR, mein Gott, du bist sehr herrlich; du bist schön und prächtig geschmückt.

2 W ho coverest thyself with light as with a garment; Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain;

Licht ist dein Kleid, das du anhast; du breitest aus den Himmel wie einen Teppich;

3 W ho layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters; Who maketh the clouds his chariot; Who walketh upon the wings of the wind;

Du wölbest es oben mit Wasser; du fährst auf den Wolken wie auf einem Wagen und gehst auf den Fittichen des Windes;

4 W ho maketh winds his messengers; Flames of fire his ministers;

der du machst Winde zu deinen Engeln und zu deinen Dienern Feuerflammen;

5 W ho laid the foundations of the earth, That it should not be moved for ever.

der du das Erdreich gegründet hast auf seinem Boden, daß es bleibt immer und ewiglich.

6 T hou coveredst it with the deep as with a vesture; The waters stood above the mountains.

Mit der Tiefe deckst du es wie mit einem Kleide, und Wasser standen über den Bergen.

7 A t thy rebuke they fled; At the voice of thy thunder they hasted away

Aber von deinem Schelten flohen sie, von deinem Donner fuhren sie dahin.

8 ( The mountains rose, the valleys sank down) Unto the place which thou hadst founded for them.

Die Berge gingen hoch hervor, und die Täler setzten sich herunter zum Ort, den du ihnen gegründet hast.

9 T hou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; That they turn not again to cover the earth.

Du hast eine Grenze gesetzt, darüber kommen sie nicht und dürfen nicht wiederum das Erdreich bedecken.

10 H e sendeth forth springs into the valleys; They run among the mountains;

Du läßt Brunnen quellen in den Gründen, daß die Wasser zwischen den Bergen hinfließen,

11 T hey give drink to every beast of the field; The wild asses quench their thirst.

daß alle Tiere auf dem Felde trinken und das Wild seinen Durst lösche.

12 B y them the birds of the heavens have their habitation; They sing among the branches.

An denselben sitzen die Vögel des Himmels und singen unter den Zweigen.

13 H e watereth the mountains from his chambers: The earth is filled with the fruit of thy works.

Du feuchtest die Berge von obenher; du machst das Land voll Früchte, die du schaffest;

14 H e causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, And herb for the service of man; That he may bring forth food out of the earth,

du lässest Gras wachsen für das Vieh und Saat zu Nutz den Menschen, daß du Brot aus der Erde bringest,

15 A nd wine that maketh glad the heart of man, And oil to make his face to shine, And bread that strengtheneth man's heart.

und daß der Wein erfreue des Menschen Herz, daß seine Gestalt schön werde vom Öl und das Brot des Menschen Herz stärke;

16 T he trees of Jehovah are filled with moisture, The cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;

daß die Bäume des HERRN voll Saft stehen, die Zedern Libanons, die er gepflanzt hat.

17 W here the birds make their nests: As for the stork, the fir-trees are her house.

Daselbst nisten die Vögel, und die Reiher wohnen auf den Tannen.

18 T he high mountains are for the wild goats; The rocks are a refuge for the conies.

Die hohen Berge sind der Gemsen Zuflucht, und die Steinklüfte der Kaninchen.

19 H e appointed the moon for seasons: The sun knoweth his going down.

Du hast den Mond gemacht, das Jahr darnach zu teilen; die Sonne weiß ihren Niedergang.

20 T hou makest darkness, and it is night, Wherein all the beasts of the forest creep forth.

Du machst Finsternis, daß es Nacht wird; da regen sich alle wilden Tiere,

21 T he young lions roar after their prey, And seek their food from God.

die jungen Löwen, die da brüllen nach dem Raub und ihre Speise suchen von Gott.

22 T he sun ariseth, they get them away, And lay them down in their dens.

Wenn aber die Sonne aufgeht, heben sie sich davon und legen sich in ihre Höhlen.

23 M an goeth forth unto his work And to his labor until the evening.

So geht dann der Mensch aus an seine Arbeit und an sein Ackerwerk bis an den Abend.

24 O Jehovah, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all: The earth is full of thy riches.

HERR, wie sind deine Werke so groß und viel! Du hast sie alle weislich geordnet, und die Erde ist voll deiner Güter.

25 Y onder is the sea, great and wide, Wherein are things creeping innumerable, Both small and great beasts.

Das Meer, das so groß und weit ist, da wimmelt's ohne Zahl, große und kleine Tiere.

26 T here go the ships; There is leviathan, whom thou hast formed to play therein.

Daselbst gehen die Schiffe; da sind Walfische, die du gemacht hast, daß sie darin spielen.

27 T hese wait all for thee, That thou mayest give them their food in due season.

Es wartet alles auf dich, daß du ihnen Speise gebest zu seiner Zeit.

28 T hou givest unto them, they gather; Thou openest thy hand, they are satisfied with good.

Wenn du ihnen gibst, so sammeln sie; wenn du deine Hand auftust, so werden sie mit Gut gesättigt.

29 T hou hidest thy face, they are troubled; Thou takest away their breath, they die, And return to their dust.

Verbirgst du dein Angesicht, so erschrecken sie; du nimmst weg ihren Odem, so vergehen sie und werden wieder zu Staub.

30 T hou sendest forth thy Spirit, they are created; And thou renewest the face of the ground.

Du lässest aus deinen Odem, so werden sie geschaffen, und du erneuest die Gestalt der Erde.

31 L et the glory of Jehovah endure for ever; Let Jehovah rejoice in his works:

Die Ehre des HERRN ist ewig; der HERR hat Wohlgefallen an seinen Werken.

32 W ho looketh on the earth, and it trembleth; He toucheth the mountains, and they smoke.

Er schaut die Erde an, so bebt sie; er rührt die Berge an, so rauchen sie.

33 I will sing unto Jehovah as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have any being.

Ich will dem HERRN singen mein Leben lang und meinen Gott loben, solange ich bin.

34 L et thy meditation be sweet unto him: I will rejoice in Jehovah.

Meine Rede müsse ihm wohl gefallen. Ich freue mich des HERRN.

35 L et sinners be consumed out of the earth. And let the wicked be no more. Bless Jehovah, O my soul. Praise ye Jehovah.

Der Sünder müsse ein Ende werden auf Erden, und die Gottlosen nicht mehr sein. Lobe den HERRN, meine Seele! Halleluja!
