Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

2 W er fromm ist, der bekommt Trost vom HERRN; aber ein Ruchloser verdammt sich selbst.

A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

3 E in gottlos Wesen fördert den Menschen nicht; aber die Wurzel der Gerechten wird bleiben.

A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

4 E in tugendsam Weib ist eine Krone ihres Mannes; aber eine böse ist wie Eiter in seinem Gebein.

A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

5 D ie Gedanken der Gerechten sind redlich; aber die Anschläge der Gottlosen sind Trügerei.

The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

6 D er Gottlosen Reden richten Blutvergießen an; aber der Frommen Mund errettet.

The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

7 D ie Gottlosen werden umgestürzt und nicht mehr sein; aber das Haus der Gerechten bleibt stehen.

The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

8 E ines weisen Mannes Rat wird gelobt; aber die da tückisch sind, werden zu Schanden.

A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

9 W er gering ist und wartet des Seinen, der ist besser, denn der groß sein will, und des Brotes mangelt.

He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

10 D er Gerechte erbarmt sich seines Viehs; aber das Herz der Gottlosen ist unbarmherzig.

A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

11 W er seinen Acker baut, der wird Brot die Fülle haben; wer aber unnötigen Sachen nachgeht, der ist ein Narr.

He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.

12 D es Gottlosen Lust ist, Schaden zu tun; aber die Wurzel der Gerechten wird Frucht bringen.

The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

13 D er Böse wird gefangen in seinen eigenen falschen Worten; aber der Gerechte entgeht der Angst.

The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.

14 V iel Gutes kommt dem Mann durch die Frucht des Mundes; und dem Menschen wird vergolten, nach dem seine Hände verdient haben.

A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

15 D em Narren gefällt seine Weise wohl; aber wer auf Rat hört, der ist weise.

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

16 E in Narr zeigt seinen Zorn alsbald; aber wer die Schmach birgt, ist klug.

A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.

17 W er wahrhaftig ist, der sagt frei, was recht ist; aber ein falscher Zeuge betrügt.

He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.

18 W er unvorsichtig herausfährt, sticht wie ein Schwert; aber die Zunge der Weisen ist heilsam.

There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

19 W ahrhaftiger Mund besteht ewiglich; aber die falsche Zunge besteht nicht lange.

The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

20 D ie, so Böses raten, betrügen; aber die zum Frieden raten, schaffen Freude.

Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

21 E s wird dem Gerechten kein Leid geschehen; aber die Gottlosen werden voll Unglück sein.

There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.

22 F alsche Mäuler sind dem HERRN ein Greuel; die aber treulich handeln, gefallen ihm wohl.

Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

23 E in verständiger Mann trägt nicht Klugheit zur Schau; aber das Herz der Narren ruft seine Narrheit aus.

A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

24 F leißige Hand wird herrschen; die aber lässig ist, wird müssen zinsen.

The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

25 S orge im Herzen kränkt, aber ein freundliches Wort erfreut.

Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.

26 D er Gerechte hat's besser denn sein Nächster; aber der Gottlosen Weg verführt sie.

The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

27 E inem Lässigen gerät sein Handel nicht; aber ein fleißiger Mensch wird reich.

The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

28 A uf dem Wege der Gerechtigkeit ist Leben, und auf ihrem gebahnten Pfad ist kein Tod.

In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
