1 Y Naamán, capitán del ejército del rey de Aram, era un gran hombre delante de su señor y tenido en alta estima, porque por medio de él el Señor había dado la victoria a Aram. También el hombre era un guerrero valiente, pero leproso.

Naaman the captain of the army of the king of Syria was an important man to his king. He was much respected, because by him the Lord had made Syria win in battle. Naaman was a strong man of war, but he had a bad skin disease.

2 Y habían salido los arameos en bandas y habían tomado cautiva a una muchacha muy joven de la tierra de Israel, y ella estaba al servicio de la mujer de Naamán.

Now the Syrians had gone out in groups of soldiers, and had taken a little girl from the land of Israel. She served Naaman’s wife.

3 Y ella dijo a su señora: ¡Ah, si mi señor estuviera con el profeta que está en Samaria! El entonces lo curaría de su lepra.

And she said to her owner, “I wish that my owner’s husband were with the man of God who is in Samaria! Then he would heal his bad skin disease.”

4 Y Naamán entró y habló a su señor, diciendo: Esto y esto ha dicho la muchacha que es de la tierra de Israel.

So Naaman went in and told his king, “This is what the girl from the land of Israel said.”

5 E ntonces el rey de Aram dijo: Ve ahora, y enviaré una carta al rey de Israel. Y él fue y llevó consigo diez talentos de plata y seis mil siclos de oro y diez mudas de ropa.

The king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” So Naaman went and took with him silver weighing as much as ten men, 6, 000 pieces of gold, and ten changes of clothes.

6 T ambién llevó al rey de Israel la carta que decía: Y ahora, cuando llegue a ti esta carta, he aquí, verás que te he enviado a mi siervo Naamán para que lo cures de su lepra.

He brought the letter to the king of Israel, which said, “I have sent my servant Naaman to you with this letter, that you may heal his bad skin disease.”

7 Y sucedió que cuando el rey de Israel leyó la carta, rasgó sus vestidos, y dijo: ¿Acaso soy yo Dios, para dar muerte y para dar vida, para que éste me mande a decir que cure a un hombre de su lepra? Pero considerad ahora, y ved cómo busca pleito conmigo.

When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to kill and to make alive? Is this why this man sends word to me to heal a man’s bad skin disease? Think about it. He wants to start a fight with me.”

8 Y al oír Eliseo, el hombre de Dios, que el rey de Israel había rasgado sus vestidos, envió aviso al rey diciendo: ¿Por qué has rasgado tus vestidos? Que venga él a mí ahora, y sabrá que hay profeta en Israel.

Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes. So he sent word to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come to me. Then he will know that there is a man of God in Israel.”

9 V ino, pues, Naamán con sus caballos y con su carro, y se paró a la entrada de la casa de Eliseo.

So Naaman came with his horses and his war-wagons, and stood at the door of Elisha’s house.

10 Y Eliseo le envió un mensajero, diciendo: Ve y lávate en el Jordán siete veces, y tu carne se te restaurará, y quedarás limpio.

Elisha sent a man to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times. And your flesh will be made well and you will be clean.”

11 P ero Naamán se enojó, y se iba diciendo: He aquí, yo pensé: “Seguramente él vendrá a mí, y se detendrá e invocará el nombre del Señor su Dios, moverá su mano sobre la parte enferma y curará la lepra.”

But Naaman was very angry and went away. He said, “I thought he would come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the Lord his God. I thought he would wave his hand over the place, and heal the bad skin disease.

12 ¿ No son el Abaná y el Farfar, ríos de Damasco, mejor que todas las aguas de Israel? ¿No pudiera yo lavarme en ellos y ser limpio? Y dio la vuelta, y se fue enfurecido.

Are not Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and went away very angry.

13 P ero sus siervos se le acercaron y le hablaron, diciendo: Padre mío, si el profeta te hubiera dicho que hicieras alguna gran cosa, ¿no la hubieras hecho? ¡Cuánto más cuando te dice: “Lávate, y quedarás limpio ”!

Then his servants came and said to him, “My father, if the man of God had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash and be clean’?”

14 E ntonces él bajó y se sumergió siete veces en el Jordán conforme a la palabra del hombre de Dios; y su carne se volvió como la carne de un niño pequeño, y quedó limpio.

So Naaman went down into the Jordan River seven times, as the man of God had told him. And his flesh was made as well as the flesh of a little child. He was clean.

15 Y regresó al hombre de Dios con toda su compañía, y fue y se puso delante de él, y dijo: He aquí, ahora conozco que no hay Dios en toda la tierra, sino en Israel. Te ruego, pues, que recibas ahora un presente de tu siervo.

Then Naaman returned to the man of God with all those who were with him. He came and stood in front of Elisha and said, “See, now I know that there is no God in all the earth but in Israel. So I ask you now to take a gift from your servant.”

16 P ero él respondió: Vive el Señor, delante de quien estoy, que no aceptaré nada. Y Naamán le insistió para que lo recibiera, pero él rehusó.

But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives, before Whom I stand, I will take nothing.” Naaman tried to talk him into taking it, but he would not.

17 Y Naamán dijo: Pues si no, te ruego que de esta tierra, se le dé a tu siervo la carga de un par de mulos, porque tu siervo ya no ofrecerá holocausto ni sacrificará a otros dioses, sino al Señor.

Naaman said, “If not, I ask you, let your servant be given as much dirt as two horses can carry. For your servant will not give burnt gifts or kill animals on the altar in worship to other gods any more. I will only give gifts to the Lord.

18 Q ue el Señor perdone a tu siervo en esto: Cuando mi señor entre en el templo de Rimón para adorar allí y se apoye en mi mano, y yo me incline en el templo de Rimón cuando tenga que adorar allí, que el Señor perdone a tu siervo por esto.

But may the Lord forgive your servant for this. My king goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there. He rests on my arm and I put my face to the ground in the house of Rimmon. When I put my face to the ground in the house of Rimmon, may the Lord forgive your servant.”

19 Y él le dijo: Vete en paz. Y se alejó de él a cierta distancia.

And Elisha said to him, “Go in peace.” So Naaman went away from him a short way. Gehazi Wants More

20 P ero Giezi, criado de Eliseo, el hombre de Dios, dijo para sí: He aquí, mi señor ha dispensado a este Naamán arameo al no recibir de sus manos lo que él trajo. Vive el Señor que correré tras él y tomaré algo de él.

But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, thought, “See, my owner has let Naaman the Syrian go without receiving the gift he brought. As the Lord lives, I will run after him and take something from him.”

21 Y Giezi siguió a Naamán. Cuando Naamán vio a uno corriendo tras él, bajó de su carro a encontrarle, y dijo: ¿Está todo bien?

So Gehazi went after Naaman. When Naaman saw someone running after him, he stepped off the war-wagon to meet him, and said, “Is all well?”

22 Y él dijo: Todo está bien. Mi señor me ha enviado, diciendo: “He aquí, en este momento dos jóvenes de los hijos de los profetas han venido a mí de la región montañosa de Efraín. Te ruego que les des un talento de plata y dos mudas de ropa.”

Gehazi said, “All is well. My owner has sent me, saying, ‘See, just now two young sons of the men who tell what will happen in the future have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. I ask of you, give them a man’s weight in silver and two changes of clothes.’”

23 Y Naamán dijo: Dígnate aceptar dos talentos. Y le insistió y ató dos talentos de plata en dos bolsas con dos mudas de ropa, y los entregó a dos de sus criados; y éstos los llevaron delante de él.

Naaman said, “Be pleased to take silver weighing as much as two men.” And he had him take two bags of silver weighing as much as two men, with two changes of clothes. He gave them to two of his servants. And they carried them before Gehazi.

24 C uando llegó al monte, los tomó de sus manos y los guardó en la casa, luego despidió a los hombres y ellos se fueron.

When he came to the hill, Gehazi took them from the servants and put them in the house. Then he sent the men away, and they left.

25 E ntonces él entró y se puso delante de su señor. Y Eliseo le dijo: ¿Dónde has estado, Giezi? Y él respondió: Tu siervo no ha ido a ninguna parte.

And Gehazi went in and stood in front of his owner. Elisha said to him, “Where have you been, Gehazi?” And he said, “Your servant did not leave.”

26 E ntonces él le dijo: ¿No iba contigo mi corazón, cuando el hombre se volvió de su carro para encontrarte? ¿Acaso es tiempo de aceptar dinero y de aceptar ropa, olivares, viñas, ovejas, bueyes, siervos y siervas?

Elisha said to him, “Did I not go with you in spirit when the man turned from his war-wagon to meet you? Was it a time to receive money and clothes and olive fields and grape-fields and sheep and cattle and men servants and women servants?

27 P or tanto, la lepra de Naamán se te pegará a ti y a tus descendientes para siempre. Y él salió de su presencia leproso, blanco como la nieve.

So now the bad skin disease will be upon you and your children forever.” And Gehazi went away from Elisha with a bad skin disease. He was as white as snow.
