1 T hen Job answered and said,

Then Job responded,

2 H ow hast thou helped him that is without power! How hast thou saved the arm that hath no strength!

“What a help you are to the weak! How you have saved the arm without strength!

3 H ow hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom, And plentifully declared sound knowledge!

“What counsel you have given to one without wisdom! What helpful insight you have abundantly provided!

4 T o whom hast thou uttered words? And whose spirit came forth from thee?

“To whom have you uttered words? And whose spirit was expressed through you? The Greatness of God

5 T hey that are deceased tremble Beneath the waters and the inhabitants thereof.

“The departed spirits tremble Under the waters and their inhabitants.

6 S heol is naked before God, And Abaddon hath no covering.

“Naked is Sheol before Him, And Abaddon has no covering.

7 H e stretcheth out the north over empty space, And hangeth the earth upon nothing.

“He stretches out the north over empty space And hangs the earth on nothing.

8 H e bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; And the cloud is not rent under them.

“He wraps up the waters in His clouds, And the cloud does not burst under them.

9 H e incloseth the face of his throne, And spreadeth his cloud upon it.

“He obscures the face of the full moon And spreads His cloud over it.

10 H e hath described a boundary upon the face of the waters, Unto the confines of light and darkness.

“He has inscribed a circle on the surface of the waters At the boundary of light and darkness.

11 T he pillars of heaven tremble And are astonished at his rebuke.

“The pillars of heaven tremble And are amazed at His rebuke.

12 H e stirreth up the sea with his power, And by his understanding he smiteth through Rahab.

“He quieted the sea with His power, And by His understanding He shattered Rahab.

13 B y his Spirit the heavens are garnished; His hand hath pierced the swift serpent.

“By His breath the heavens are cleared; His hand has pierced the fleeing serpent.

14 L o, these are but the outskirts of his ways: And how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?

“Behold, these are the fringes of His ways; And how faint a word we hear of Him! But His mighty thunder, who can understand?”
