1 D espués de esto andaba Jesús en Galilea, pues no quería andar en Judea, porque los judíos intentaban matarlo.

After this, Jesus went from place to place in Galilee, for He would not travel in Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill Him.

2 E staba cerca la fiesta de los judíos, la de los Tabernáculos,

Now the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles was drawing near.

3 y le dijeron sus hermanos: —Sal de aquí, y vete a Judea, para que también tus discípulos vean las obras que haces,

So His brothers said to Him, Leave here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples may also see the works that You do.

4 p orque ninguno que procura darse a conocer hace algo en secreto. Si estas cosas haces, manifiéstate al mundo.

For no one does anything in secret when he wishes to be conspicuous and secure publicity. If You do these things, show Yourself openly and make Yourself known to the world!

5 N i aun sus hermanos creían en él.

For His brothers did not believe in or adhere to or trust in or rely on Him either.

6 E ntonces Jesús les dijo: —Mi tiempo aún no ha llegado, pero vuestro tiempo siempre está preparado.

Whereupon Jesus said to them, My time (opportunity) has not come yet; but any time is suitable for you and your opportunity is ready any time.

7 N o puede el mundo odiaros a vosotros; pero a mí me odia, porque yo testifico de él, que sus obras son malas.

The world cannot hate you, but it does hate Me because I denounce it for its wicked works and reveal that its doings are evil.

8 S ubid vosotros a la fiesta; yo no subo todavía a esa fiesta, porque mi tiempo aún no se ha cumplido.

Go to the Feast yourselves. I am not going up to the Festival, because My time is not ripe.

9 Y habiéndoles dicho esto se quedó en Galilea. Jesús en la fiesta de los Tabernáculos

Having said these things to them, He stayed behind in Galilee.

10 P ero después que sus hermanos subieron, entonces él también subió a la fiesta, no abiertamente, sino como en secreto.

But afterward, when His brothers had gone up to the Feast, He went up also, not publicly, but by Himself quietly and as if He did not wish to be observed.

11 Y lo buscaban los judíos en la fiesta, y decían: —¿Dónde estará aquél?

Therefore the Jews kept looking for Him at the Feast and asking, Where can He be?

12 Y había mucha murmuración acerca de él entre la multitud, pues unos decían: «Es bueno»; pero otros decían: «No, sino que engaña al pueblo.»

And there was among the mass of the people much whispered discussion and hot disputing about Him. Some were saying, He is good! Others said, No, He misleads and deceives the people!

13 S in embargo, ninguno hablaba abiertamente de él por miedo a los judíos.

But no one dared speak out boldly about Him for fear of the Jews.

14 P ero a la mitad de la fiesta subió Jesús al Templo, y enseñaba.

When the Feast was already half over, Jesus went up into the temple '> court] and began to teach.

15 Y se admiraban los judíos, diciendo: —¿Cómo sabe éste letras sin haber estudiado?

The Jews were astonished. They said, How is it that this Man has learning when He has never studied?

16 J esús les respondió y dijo: —Mi doctrina no es mía, sino de aquel que me envió.

Jesus answered them by saying, My teaching is not My own, but His Who sent Me.

17 E l que quiera hacer la voluntad de Dios, conocerá si la doctrina es de Dios o si yo hablo por mi propia cuenta.

If any man desires to do His will (God’s pleasure), he will know (have the needed illumination to recognize, and can tell for himself) whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking from Myself and of My own accord and on My own authority.

18 E l que habla por su propia cuenta, su propia gloria busca; pero el que busca la gloria del que lo envió, éste es verdadero y no hay en él injusticia.

He who speaks on his own authority seeks to win honor for himself. But He Who seeks the glory and is eager for the honor of Him Who sent Him, He is true; and there is no unrighteousness or falsehood or deception in Him.

19 ¿ No os dio Moisés la Ley? Sin embargo, ninguno de vosotros la cumple. ¿Por qué intentáis matarme?

Did not Moses give you the Law? And yet not one of you keeps the Law. why do you seek to kill Me ?

20 R espondió la multitud y dijo: —Demonio tienes, ¿quién intenta matarte?

The crowd answered Him, You are possessed by a demon! Who seeks to kill You?

21 J esús respondió y les dijo: —Una obra hice y todos os admiráis.

Jesus answered them, I did one work, and you all are astounded.

22 P or cierto, Moisés os dio la circuncisión —no porque sea de Moisés, sino de los padres— y en sábado circuncidáis al hombre.

Now Moses established circumcision among you—though it did not originate with Moses but with the previous patriarchs—and you circumcise a person on the Sabbath day.

23 S i recibe el hombre la circuncisión en sábado, para que la Ley de Moisés no sea quebrantada, ¿os enojáis conmigo porque en sábado sané completamente a un hombre?

If, to avoid breaking the Law of Moses, a person undergoes circumcision on the Sabbath day, have you any cause to be angry with (indignant with, bitter against) Me for making a man’s whole body well on the Sabbath?

24 N o juzguéis según las apariencias, sino juzgad con justo juicio. ¿Es éste el Cristo?

Be honest in your judgment and do not decide at a glance (superficially and by appearances); but judge fairly and righteously.

25 D ecían entonces unos de Jerusalén: —¿No es a éste a quien buscan para matarlo?

Then some of the Jerusalem people said, Is not this the Man they seek to kill?

26 P ues mirad, habla públicamente y no le dicen nada. ¿Habrán reconocido en verdad las autoridades que éste es el Cristo?

And here He is speaking openly, and they say nothing to Him! Can it be possible that the rulers have discovered and know that this is truly the Christ?

27 P ero éste, sabemos de dónde es; sin embargo, cuando venga el Cristo, nadie sabrá de dónde es.

No, we know where this Man comes from; when the Christ arrives, no one is to know from what place He comes.

28 J esús entonces, enseñando en el Templo, alzó la voz y dijo: —A mí me conocéis y sabéis de dónde soy; no he venido de mí mismo, pero el que me envió, a quien vosotros no conocéis, es verdadero.

Whereupon Jesus called out as He taught in the temple '> porches], Do you know Me, and do you know where I am from? I have not come on My own authority and of My own accord and as self-appointed, but the One Who sent Me is true (real, genuine, steadfast); and Him you do not know!

29 P ero yo lo conozco, porque de él procedo, y él me envió.

I know Him because I come from His presence, and it was He Who sent Me.

30 E ntonces intentaban prenderlo; pero ninguno le echó mano, porque aún no había llegado su hora.

Therefore they were eager to arrest Him, but no one laid a hand on Him, for His hour (time) had not yet come.

31 Y muchos de la multitud creyeron en él y decían: —El Cristo, cuando venga, ¿hará más señales que las que éste hace? Los fariseos envían guardias para detener a Jesús

And besides, many of the multitude believed in Him. And they kept saying, When the Christ comes, will He do more miracles and produce more proofs and signs than what this Man has done?

32 L os fariseos oyeron a la gente que murmuraba de él estas cosas. Entonces los principales sacerdotes y los fariseos enviaron guardias para que lo prendieran.

The Pharisees learned how the people were saying these things about Him under their breath; and the chief priests and Pharisees sent attendants (guards) to arrest Him.

33 Y Jesús dijo: —Todavía estaré con vosotros algún tiempo, y luego iré al que me envió.

Therefore Jesus said, For a little while I am with you, and then I go back to Him Who sent Me.

34 M e buscaréis, pero no me hallaréis, y a donde yo estaré, vosotros no podréis ir.

You will look for Me, but you will not find Me; where I am, you cannot come.

35 E ntonces los judíos dijeron entre sí: —¿Adónde se irá éste, que no lo hallaremos? ¿Se irá a los dispersos entre los griegos y enseñará a los griegos?

Then the Jews said among themselves, Where does this Man intend to go that we shall not find Him? Will He go to the Jews who are scattered in the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

36 ¿ Qué significa esto que dijo: “Me buscaréis, pero no me hallaréis, y a donde yo estaré, vosotros no podréis ir”? Ríos de agua viva

What does this statement of His mean, You will look for Me and not be able to find Me, and, Where I am, you cannot come?

37 E n el último y gran día de la fiesta, Jesús se puso en pie y alzó la voz, diciendo: —Si alguien tiene sed, venga a mí y beba.

Now on the final and most important day of the Feast, Jesus stood, and He cried in a loud voice, If any man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink!

38 E l que cree en mí, como dice la Escritura, de su interior brotarán ríos de agua viva.

He who believes in Me as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow springs and rivers of living water.

39 E sto dijo del Espíritu que habían de recibir los que creyeran en él, pues aún no había venido el Espíritu Santo, porque Jesús no había sido aún glorificado. División entre la gente

But He was speaking here of the Spirit, Whom those who believed (trusted, had faith) in Him were afterward to receive. For the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (raised to honor).

40 E ntonces algunos de la multitud, oyendo estas palabras, decían: «Verdaderamente éste es el Profeta.»

Listening to those words, some of the multitude said, This is certainly and beyond doubt the Prophet!

41 O tros decían: «Éste es el Cristo.» Pero algunos decían: «¿De Galilea ha de venir el Cristo?

Others said, This is the Christ (the Messiah, Anointed One)! But some said, What? Does the Christ come out of Galilee?

42 ¿ No dice la Escritura que de la descendencia de David, y de la aldea de Belén, de donde era David, ha de venir el Cristo?»

Does not the Scripture tell us that the Christ will come from the offspring of David and from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?

43 H ubo entonces división entre la gente a causa de él.

So there arose a division and dissension among the people concerning Him.

44 Y algunos de ellos querían prenderlo, pero ninguno le echó mano. ¡Nunca nadie ha hablado así!

Some of them wanted to arrest Him, but no one laid hands on Him.

45 L os guardias vinieron a los principales sacerdotes y a los fariseos. Entonces estos les preguntaron: —¿Por qué no lo habéis traído?

Meanwhile the attendants (guards) had gone back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, Why have you not brought Him here with you?

46 L os guardias respondieron: —¡Jamás hombre alguno ha hablado como este hombre!

The attendants replied, Never has a man talked as this Man talks!

47 E ntonces los fariseos les preguntaron: —¿También vosotros habéis sido engañados?

The Pharisees said to them, Are you also deluded and led astray?

48 ¿ Acaso ha creído en él alguno de los gobernantes o de los fariseos?

Has any of the authorities or of the Pharisees believed in Him?

49 P ero esta gente que no sabe la Ley, maldita es.

As for this multitude (rabble) that does not know the Law, they are contemptible and doomed and accursed!

50 L es dijo Nicodemo, el que vino a él de noche, el cual era uno de ellos:

Then Nicodemus, who came to Jesus before at night and was one of them, asked,

51 — ¿Juzga acaso nuestra Ley a un hombre si primero no lo oye y sabe lo que ha hecho?

Does our Law convict a man without giving him a hearing and finding out what he has done?

52 R espondieron y le dijeron: —¿Eres tú también galileo? Escudriña y ve que de Galilea nunca se ha levantado un profeta. La mujer adúltera

They answered him, Are you too from Galilee? Search, and you will see that no prophet comes (will rise to prominence) from Galilee.

53 Y cada uno se fue a su casa,

And they went, each to his own house.
