1 Y et now hear, O Jacob my servant, and Israel, who I have chosen:

Dar acum ascultă, Iacove, robul Meu, Israele, cel pe care te-am ales!

2 T hus saith Jehovah that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, who will help thee: Fear not, O Jacob my servant; and thou, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul – Cel Care te-a făcut, te-a ţesut în pântece şi te va ajuta: nu te teme, robul Meu Iacov, Ieşurun, cel pe care te-am ales!

3 F or I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and streams upon the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:

Căci Eu voi turna apă peste pământul însetat şi râuri peste pământul uscat; voi turna Duhul Meu peste sămânţa ta şi binecuvântarea Mea peste urmaşii tăi.

4 a nd they shall spring up among the grass, as willows by the watercourses.

Ei vor răsări ca iarba de pe pajişti şi ca sălciile lângă pâraiele de apă.

5 O ne shall say, I am Jehovah's; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto Jehovah, and surname himself by the name of Israel.

Unul va zice: ‘Eu sunt al Domnului! ’, un altul se va numi cu numele lui Iacov, iar un altul îşi va scrie pe mână: ‘Al Domnului!’ şi va adopta numele de Israel.» Măreţia Domnului şi absurditatea idolilor

6 T hus saith Jehovah, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is no God.

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Împăratul lui Israel şi Răscumpărătorul său, Domnul Oştirilor: «Eu sunt Cel dintâi şi Cel de pe urmă, iar în afară de Mine nu există alt Dumnezeu.

7 A nd who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I established the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and that shall come to pass, let them declare.

Cine este ca Mine? Să proclame, să vestească şi să înfăţişeze înaintea Mea ce s-a petrecut în vechime, de când Mi-am întemeiat poporul? Ce urmează să se mai întâmple? Să ne prezică ce se va întâmpla!

8 F ear ye not, neither be afraid: have I not declared unto thee of old, and showed it? and ye are my witnesses. Is there a God besides me? yea, there is no Rock; I know not any.

Nu vă temeţi, nu vă înspăimântaţi! Oare nu v-am vestit şi prezis aceste lucruri în trecut? Voi sunteţi martorii Mei! Există vreun alt Dumnezeu în afară de Mine? Nu există o altă Stâncă! Eu nu cunosc vreuna.»

9 T hey that fashion a graven image are all of them vanity; and the things that they delight in shall not profit; and their own witnesses see not, nor know: that they may be put to shame.

Toţi cei ce fac idoli sunt nimic, iar lucrurile de care se bucură nu le sunt de vreun folos. Cei ce ar trebui să-i apere nu văd, nu cunosc şi, astfel, vor fi făcuţi de ruşine.

10 W ho hath fashioned a god, or molten an image that is profitable for nothing?

Cine a modelat vreun zeu sau a turnat vreun chip – ceva de la care să nu aibă nici un folos?

11 B ehold, all his fellows shall be put to shame; and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; they shall fear, they shall be put to shame together.

Iată, acesta împreună cu toţi cei din breasla sa vor fi făcuţi de ruşine; artizanii nu sunt altceva decât oameni. Să se adune şi să stea în picioare! Vor fi înspăimântaţi, făcuţi de ruşine.

12 T he smith maketh an axe, and worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with his strong arm: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth; he drinketh no water, and is faint.

Fierarul ia o matriţă cu care lucrează în cărbunii aprinşi; o modelează cu lovituri de ciocan şi o forjează cu puterea mâinii lui. Apoi i se face foame şi îi slăbesc puterile, iar pentru că nu bea apă, rămâne fără vlagă.

13 T he carpenter stretcheth out a line; he marketh it out with a pencil; he shapeth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compasses, and shapeth it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man, to dwell in a house.

Tâmplarul măsoară cu o linie, însemnează măsura cu un stilet, apoi finisează lemnul cu o rindea şi îl măsoară cu compasul; îi dă formă de om, om în toată splendoarea lui, şi apoi îl pune într-o casă.

14 H e heweth him down cedars, and taketh the holm-tree and the oak, and strengtheneth for himself one among the trees of the forest: he planteth a fir-tree, and the rain doth nourish it.

Taie cedri sau îşi alege un gorun ori un stejar pe care îl lăsase să crească printre ceilalţi copaci ai pădurii sau taie un dafin pe care-l sădise, iar ploaia îl făcuse să crească.

15 T hen shall it be for a man to burn; and he taketh thereof, and warmeth himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread: yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.

Apoi acesta slujeşte omului drept lemn de foc. Cu o parte din el se încălzeşte, aprinde un foc şi coace pâine. Cu o altă parte face un dumnezeu căruia i se închină, modelează un idol înaintea căruia se prosternă.

16 H e burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied; yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire.

Jumătate din el îl pune pe foc; îşi prăjeşte carne, mănâncă şi se satură. De asemenea, se încălzeşte şi zice: «Ah! M-am încălzit stând aproape de foc!»

17 A nd the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image; he falleth down unto it and worshippeth, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.

Din ce îi rămâne face un dumnezeu, propriul său idol. Se prosternă înaintea lui şi i se închină; i se roagă zicându-i: «Mântuieşte-mă, căci tu eşti zeul meu!»

18 T hey know not, neither do they consider: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

Ei nu cunosc, nici nu înţeleg, căci ochii le sunt acoperiţi ca să nu poată vedea, iar minţile – întunecate, ca să nu poată lua aminte.

19 A nd none calleth to mind, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?

Nici unul nu stă să cugete; nu are cunoaştere sau discernământ ca să-şi zică: «Jumătate l-am pus pe foc; pe cărbunii lui mi-am copt pâine, mi-am prăjit carne şi am mâncat. Voi face oare din ce a rămas o asemenea urâciune? Să mă prostern eu înaintea unei bucăţi de lemn?»

20 H e feedeth on ashes; a deceived heart hath turned him aside; and he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

El se hrăneşte cu cenuşă şi o minte înşelătoare îl conduce greşit. Nu se poate salva singur, nu poate spune: «Ceea ce ţin în mână nu este oare o minciună?»

21 R emember these things, O Jacob, and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.

«Ţine minte aceste lucruri, Iacove, căci tu eşti robul Meu, Israele! Eu te-am modelat; eşti robul Meu. O, Israele, nu te voi uita!

22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.

Ţi-am şters nelegiuirile cum s-ar duce un nor, şi păcatele cum dispare ceaţa. Întoarce-te la Mine, căci Eu te-am răscumpărat!»

23 S ing, O ye heavens, for Jehovah hath done it; shout, ye lower parts of the earth; break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for Jehovah hath redeemed Jacob, and will glorify himself in Israel.

Strigaţi de bucurie, ceruri, căci Domnul a lucrat! Strigaţi, adâncimi ale pământului! Izbucniţi în cântec, munţilor! Şi voi, pădurilor, cu toţi copacii voştri! Căci Domnul l-a răscumpărat pe Iacov; El Şi-a arătat slava prin Israel. Ierusalimul, locuit din nou

24 T hus saith Jehovah, thy Redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb: I am Jehovah, that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth (who is with me?);

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Răscumpărătorul tău, Cel Care te-a ţesut în pântece: «Eu sunt Domnul, Cel Care am făcut toate lucrurile, Cel Care, singur, a desfăşurat cerurile, Cel Care, singur, a întins pământul;

25 t hat frustrateth the signs of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;

Cel Care dovedeşte drept false semnele profeţilor mincinoşi, îi arată drept proşti pe ghicitori, îi face pe înţelepţi să dea înapoi şi le dovedeşte cunoştinţa ca fiind prostie;

26 t hat confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith of Jerusalem, She shall be inhabited; and of the cities of Judah, They shall be built, and I will raise up the waste places thereof;

Cel Care adevereşte cuvântul robului Său şi împlineşte prevestirea mesagerilor Săi; Cel Care zice despre Ierusalim: ‘Va fi locuit!’ şi despre cetăţile din Iuda: ‘Vor fi rezidite! Eu le voi reclădi din ruine!’;

27 t hat saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers;

Cel Care spune adâncului mării: ‘Fii uscat! Îţi voi usca izvoarele!’;

28 T hat saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure, even saying of Jerusalem, She shall be built; and of the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

Cel Care spune despre Cirus: ‘El este păstorul Meu; el va împlini tot ce doresc Eu. El va porunci ca Ierusalimul să fie rezidit şi Templului să-i fie pusă temelia.’»
