1 N ow faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Ahora bien, la fe es la firme seguridad de las realidades que se esperan, la prueba convincente de lo que no se ve.

2 F or by it the elders obtained a good report.

Porque por ella alcanzaron buen testimonio los antiguos.

3 T hrough faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Por la fe entendemos que el universo fue enteramente organizado por la palabra de Dios, de modo que lo que se ve fue hecho de cosas no visibles.

4 B y faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

Por la fe, Abel ofreció a Dios más excelente sacrificio que Caín, por lo cual alcanzó testimonio de que era justo, dando Dios testimonio sobre sus ofrendas; y muerto, aún habla por ella.

5 B y faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Por la fe, Enoc fue trasladado para no ver muerte, y no fue hallado, porque lo trasladó Dios; y antes que fuese trasladado, tuvo testimonio de haber agradado a Dios.

6 B ut without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Y sin fe es imposible agradar a Dios; porque es necesario que el que se acerca a Dios crea que le hay, y que es galardonador de los que le buscan.

7 B y faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Por la fe, Noé, cuando fue advertido por Dios acerca de cosas que aún no se veían, con reverencia preparó un arca para salvación de su casa; y por esa fe condenó al mundo, y fue hecho heredero de la justicia que es según la fe.

8 B y faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Por la fe, Abraham, siendo llamado, obedeció para salir al lugar que había de recibir como herencia; y salió sin saber adónde iba.

9 B y faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

Por la fe, habitó como extranjero en la tierra prometida como en tierra ajena, morando en tiendas con Isaac y Jacob, coherederos de la misma promesa;

10 f or he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

porque esperaba la ciudad que tiene fundamentos, cuyo artífice y constructor es Dios.

11 T hrough faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

Por la fe, también la misma Sara, siendo estéril, recibió poder para concebir; y dio a luz aun fuera del tiempo de la edad, porque creyó que era fiel quien lo había prometido.

12 T herefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

Por lo cual también, de uno, y ése ya muerto en cuanto a esto, salió una descendencia como las estrellas del cielo en multitud, y como la arena innumerable que está a la orilla del mar.

13 T hese all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

Conforme a la fe murieron todos éstos sin haber recibido lo prometido, sino mirándolo de lejos, y creyéndolo, y saludándolo, y confesando que eran extranjeros y peregrinos sobre la tierra.

14 F or they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.

Porque los que esto dicen, claramente dan a entender que buscan una patria;

15 A nd truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

pues si hubiesen estado recordándose de aquella de donde salieron, ciertamente tenían tiempo de volver.

16 B ut now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

Pero aspiran a una mejor, esto es, celestial; por lo cual Dios no se avergüenza de llamarse Dios de ellos; porque les ha preparado una ciudad.

17 B y faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

Por la fe, Abraham, cuando fue probado, ofreció a Isaac; y el que había recibido las promesas, ofrecía a su unigénito,

18 o f whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:

habiéndosele dicho: En Isaac te será llamada descendencia;

19 a ccounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

considerando que Dios es poderoso para levantar aun de entre los muertos, de donde, en sentido figurado, también le volvió a recibir.

20 B y faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

Por la fe, bendijo Isaac a Jacob y a Esaú respecto a cosas venideras.

21 B y faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

Por la fe, Jacob, al morir, bendijo a cada uno de los hijos de José, y adoró apoyado sobre el extremo de su bordón.

22 B y faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

Por la fe, José, al morir, mencionó la salida de los hijos de Israel, y dio órdenes acerca de sus huesos.

23 B y faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.

Por la fe, Moisés, cuando nació, fue escondido por sus padres durante tres meses, porque vieron que el niño era hermoso, y no temieron el decreto del rey.

24 B y faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;

Por la fe, Moisés, hecho ya grande, rehusó llamarse hijo de la hija de Faraón,

25 c hoosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

escogiendo antes ser maltratado con el pueblo de Dios, que gozar de los deleites temporales del pecado,

26 e steeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

teniendo por mayores riquezas el vituperio de Cristo que los tesoros de los egipcios; porque tenía puesta la mirada en el galardón.

27 B y faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

Por la fe abandonó Egipto, no temiendo la cólera del rey; porque se mantuvo firme, como viendo al Invisible.

28 T hrough faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

Por la fe, celebró la pascua y la aspersión de la sangre, para que el exterminador de los primogénitos no los tocase a ellos.

29 B y faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

Por la fe, pasaron por el Mar Rojo como por tierra seca; e intentando los egipcios hacer lo mismo, fueron ahogados.

30 B y faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.

Por la fe, cayeron los muros de Jericó después de ser rodeados durante siete días.

31 B y faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

Por la fe, Rahab la ramera no pereció juntamente con los desobedientes, habiendo recibido a los espías en paz.

32 A nd what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:

¿Y qué más digo? Porque el tiempo me faltaría para contar de Gedeón, de Barac, de Sansón, de Jefté, de David, así como de Samuel y de los profetas;

33 w ho through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

que mediante la fe conquistaron reinos, hicieron justicia, alcanzaron promesas, taparon bocas de leones,

34 q uenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

apagaron fuegos impetuosos, escaparon del filo de la espada, se revistieron de poder, siendo débiles, se hicieron fuertes en batallas, pusieron en fuga a ejércitos extranjeros.

35 W omen received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

Las mujeres recibieron sus muertos mediante resurrección; mas otros fueron torturados, no aceptando el rescate, a fin de obtener una mejor resurrección.

36 a nd others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

Otros experimentaron vituperios y azotes, y a más de esto prisiones y cárceles.

37 t hey were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

Fueron apedreados, aserrados, puestos a prueba, muertos a filo de espada; anduvieron de acá para allá cubiertos con pieles de ovejas y de cabras, menesterosos, atribulados, maltratados;

38 ( of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

de los cuales el mundo no era digno; errando por los desiertos, por los montes, por las cuevas y por las cavernas de la tierra.

39 A nd these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

Y todos éstos, aunque alcanzaron buen testimonio mediante la fe, no recibieron lo prometido;

40 G od having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

porque Dios había provisto para nosotros algo mejor, para que no fuesen ellos perfeccionados aparte de nosotros.
