K aua koutou e tangi ki te tupapaku, e uhunga ranei ki a ia: engari kia nui te tangi mo te tangata e haere atu ana; no te mea e kore ia e hoki mai a muri, e kore ano e kite i te whenua i whanau ai ia.

Don’t weep for the dead, neither bemoan him; but weep bitterly for him who goes away; for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.
