N a ka whakaekea te whenua e Puru kingi o Ahiria; a ka hoatu e Menaheme etahi taranata hiriwa kotahi mano ki a Puru, kia ai ai tona ringa hei awhina mona, kia u ai te kingitanga ki tona ringa.

There came against the land Pul the king of Assyria; and Menahem gave Pul a thousand talents of silver, that his hand might be with him to confirm the kingdom in his hand.
