D a nun herzukam der siebente Monat und die Kinder Israel in ihren Städten waren, versammelte sich das ganze Volk wie ein Mann auf die breite Gasse vor dem Wassertor und sprachen zu Esra, dem Schriftgelehrten, daß er das Buch des Gesetzes Mose's holte, das der HERR Israel geboten hat.

All the people gathered themselves together as one man into the wide place that was in front of the water gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which Yahweh had commanded to Israel.
