M a in quel giorno gli uomini d'Israele erano stremati, perché Saul aveva fatto fare al popolo questo giuramento: «Maledetto l'uomo che toccherà cibo prima di sera, prima che mi sia vendicato dei miei nemici». Così nessuno del popolo toccò cibo.

And the men of Israel were distressed that day; for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until it be evening, and I be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted food.
