Q uesto avvenne perché i figli d’Israele avevano peccato contro il Signore, loro Dio, che li aveva fatti uscire dal paese d’Egitto, sottraendoli al potere del faraone, re d’Egitto, e avevano adorato altri dèi;

And so it was, because the children of Israel had sinned against Jehovah their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods;
