1 L a donna saggia costruisce la sua casa, ma la stolta l’abbatte con le proprie mani.

Every wise woman buildeth her house; But the foolish plucketh it down with her own hands.

2 C hi cammina nella rettitudine teme il Signore, ma chi è traviato nelle sue vie lo disprezza.

He that walketh in his uprightness feareth Jehovah; But he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

3 N ella bocca dello stolto germoglia la superbia, ma le labbra dei saggi sono la loro custodia.

In the mouth of the foolish is a rod for his pride; But the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

4 D ove mancano i buoi è vuoto il granaio, ma l’abbondanza della raccolta sta nella forza del bue.

Where no oxen are, the crib is clean; But much increase is by the strength of the ox.

5 I l testimone fedele non mente, ma il testimone falso spaccia menzogne.

A faithful witness will not lie; But a false witness uttereth lies.

6 I l beffardo cerca la saggezza e non la trova, ma per l’uomo intelligente la scienza è cosa facile.

A scoffer seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not; But knowledge is easy unto him that hath understanding.

7 V attene lontano dallo stolto; sulle sue labbra certo non hai trovato scienza.

Go into the presence of a foolish man, And thou shalt not perceive in him the lips of knowledge.

8 L a saggezza dell’uomo accorto sta nel discernere la propria strada, ma la follia degli stolti non è che inganno.

The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way; But the folly of fools is deceit.

9 G li insensati si burlano del peccato, ma il favore del Signore sta fra gli uomini retti.

A trespass-offering mocketh fools; But among the upright there is good will.

10 I l cuore conosce la propria amarezza, e alla sua gioia non partecipa un estraneo.

The heart knoweth its own bitterness; And a stranger doth not intermeddle with its joy.

11 L a casa degli empi sarà distrutta, ma la tenda degli uomini retti fiorirà.

The house of the wicked shall be overthrown; But the tent of the upright shall flourish.

12 C ’è una via che all’uomo sembra diritta, ma essa conduce alla morte.

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man; But the end thereof are the ways of death.

13 A nche ridendo, il cuore può essere triste; e la gioia può finire in dolore.

Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; And the end of mirth is heaviness.

14 L o sviato di cuore avrà la ricompensa del suo modo di vivere, e l’uomo dabbene, quella delle opere sue.

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways; And a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

15 L ’ingenuo crede a tutto quel che si dice, ma l’uomo prudente fa attenzione ai suoi passi.

The simple believeth every word; But the prudent man looketh well to his going.

16 I l saggio teme, ed evita il male, ma lo stolto è arrogante e presuntuoso.

A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil; But the fool beareth himself insolently, and is confident.

17 C hi è pronto all’ira commette follie, e l’uomo pieno di malizia diventa odioso.

He that is soon angry will deal foolishly; And a man of wicked devices is hated.

18 G li sciocchi ereditano stoltezza, ma i prudenti s’incoronano di scienza.

The simple inherit folly; But the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19 I malvagi si inchinano davanti ai buoni, e gli empi, alle porte dei giusti.

The evil bow down before the good; And the wicked, at the gates of the righteous.

20 I l povero è odiato anche dal suo compagno, ma gli amici del ricco sono molti.

The poor is hated even of his own neighbor; But the rich hath many friends.

21 C hi disprezza il prossimo pecca, ma beato chi ha pietà dei miseri!

He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth; But he that hath pity on the poor, happy is he.

22 Q uelli che meditano il male non sono forse traviati? Ma quelli che meditano il bene trovano grazia e fedeltà.

Do they not err that devise evil? But mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.

23 I n ogni fatica c’è profitto, ma il chiacchierare procura la miseria.

In all labor there is profit; But the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

24 L a corona dei saggi è la loro ricchezza, ma la follia degli stolti non è che follia.

The crown of the wise is their riches; But the folly of fools is only folly.

25 I l testimone veritiero salva delle persone, ma spaccia menzogne il falso testimone.

A true witness delivereth souls; But he that uttereth lies causeth deceit.

26 C ’è grande sicurezza nel timore del Signore; egli sarà un rifugio per i figli di chi lo teme.

In the fear of Jehovah is strong confidence; And his children shall have a place of refuge.

27 I l timore del Signore è fonte di vita e fa evitare le insidie della morte.

The fear of Jehovah is a fountain of life, That one may depart from the snares of death.

28 L a moltitudine del popolo è la gloria del re, ma la scarsezza dei sudditi è la rovina del principe.

In the multitude of people is the king's glory; But in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

29 C hi è lento all’ira ha molto buon senso, ma chi è pronto ad andare in collera mostra la sua follia.

He that is slow to anger is of great understanding; But he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

30 U n cuore calmo è la vita del corpo, ma l’invidia è la carie delle ossa.

A tranquil heart is the life of the flesh; But envy is the rottenness of the bones.

31 C hi opprime il povero offende colui che l’ha fatto, ma chi ha pietà del bisognoso lo onora.

He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker; But he that hath mercy on the needy honoreth him.

32 L ’empio è travolto dalla sua sventura, ma il giusto spera anche nella morte.

The wicked is thrust down in his evil-doing; But the righteous hath a refuge in his death.

33 L a saggezza riposa nel cuore dell’uomo intelligente, ma in mezzo agli stolti deve essere resa manifesta.

Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding; But that which is in the inward part of fools is made known.

34 L a giustizia innalza una nazione, ma il peccato è la vergogna dei popoli.

Righteousness exalteth a nation; But sin is a reproach to any people.

35 I l favore del re è per il servo prudente, ma la sua ira è per chi lo offende.

The king's favor is toward a servant that dealeth wisely; But his wrath will be against him that causeth shame.
